What sucks about Aion:

I played lots of mmorpg's, from Earth&Beyond swg,eq vanguard, warhammer, sto...etc etc etc

The Grind to lvl up on Aion is the slowest...frustrating slow.

Ganking.......nothing like getting constantly getting ganked while grinding from players 20+ lvls above yours.

Items drops.....What item drops? 99.99% junk loot.

Auction House...most items crazy overprized, due to the lack of drops, including the drops of manufacturing components.

Dont even get me started on crafting...lol

The good thing about Aion:

The graphics are beautyfull!!

So... you played a Korean MMO with the mind-set that it wouldn't be a grindfest??

I'm confused... what made you think it WOULDN'T be a grindfest?

I knew i had to do some grinding, but good grief

The "grind" is quite fun actually, providing you group with friends. However solo grinding on mobs for hours without diversity whatsoever, yep that is quite tedious and boring. Though who does that in MMOs? Sorry, don't answer that. Unfortunately more and more gamers nowadays are. In addition they want to hit max level asap, thus why the OP finds it "frustrating" to level. This mindset is what is wrong with today's gamers.

Indeed ganking sucks in all games even though you can lessen it to a great extent if you know where the rifts spawn and get away from that area for a while. Oh and don't solo grind in the abyss.. if you are then it's quite normal to get ganked lol.

99.99% junk loot that you sell to a merchant for good kinah, especially if there are white items among that junk. The rest of the mats that drop you sell on the broker, which leads to more kinah. It's ridiculously easy to make money in that game.

And the graphics are overrated! I disagree with everything you said! image

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.  When you read thread after thread about how tedious the grind is on Aion... yet you decide to try it anyway thinking it can't be that bad... that my friend is insanity.

Dont get me wrong... I agree with your assessment.  I agree that the game has a big grind.  I also think the drop rates suck. Being ganked?  well... that's part of a game that has open PvP.

If someone thinks Aion is a grind then they seriously have NOT played a true blood Korean MMORPG.

This is a really consise explanation of why a lot of the people here bitch about Aion so much.

Also, This game is not WoW/LotRO/EQII. If you try to play it as though it is, then YES, it is going to be a sucktastic grind.

I'm sorry to have to correct you, but when someone seeks to demean another by using a "definition" I'd expect the term to actually be defined as such. In this case it's not... That saying is NOT the definition of insanity, merely a popular quote from Einstein. Even if it was the definition, it is not applicable to any first time player regardless of how many threads they read before playing... as the statement directly refers to the "one" trying something or doing something again and again.

Wait, I'm confused.. You said that you played Vanguard before....... Exactly what level did you get to before quitting,,,, 10?  Vanguard, Everquest, Aion, and Lineage games are HUGE grindfest mmorpgs.. It's not like WoW where you can reach 60 in two weeks or a week if you get power leveled...

You know, that's one thing I enjoyed most in Aion.. The grind brought back some EQ memories when I'd get in a group and grind for hours while socializing in group chat to make the time go by faster..  Now, solo grinding is boring and ridiculous, and I only did that after acquiring new abilities to test out before I grouped...

Honestly, If you don't enjoy the game for what it is, then leave.. No one is pressuring you to stay.. Instead of doing what most whinny kids do, "which is whine to the devs to make the game easier" I suggest either deal with it or leave,,,, geez! You are one of the reasons why MMO's are teh suxxors now! Dev's listen to whinny, illiterate, ranting, babies to dumb the game down and make everything EEEEZZZZZ mode because they don't have patience or understand how to work hard to achieve their goals.. Having everything given to you in a silver platter is no fun! Unless you play mindless FPS games!!

I think he/she? is talking about being able to get PvP gear by PvEing (and paying ALOT of kinah). While this is possible, it's very boring and expensive.

I don't agree that it's turning into a PvE game though, as new dredg, new fortresses, divine AP (which you can gain ONLY by pvping), ground abyss and more strictly PvP content is coming in 2.0 which gives PvP even more importance, in addition to the PvE content.
