Chris "Kinslon" Hager has delivered his May Community Address letter where he discusses the upcoming 1.9 patch, the status of the free server transfer service, the 2.0 update, and even server merges.
On 1.9, Chris announced that the highly anticipated update would be hitting Aion's newly minted public test servers on Tuesday, May 25th, and would go into live service a week later on Wednesday, June 2nd.
Players won't have to wait much longer for the free transfer service, either, as you'll be able to take advantage of it as soon as mid-June.
Further on the subject of servers, Chris also announced that Aion would be subject to server merges due tin part to player feedback they've received in which players are describing the fact they cannot easily find groups, contribute to the server economy, or gather enough people for end game content. This prompted the Aion team to investigate the server data where they found that while certain level ranges had ideal populations, most servers had less than ideal populations across all level ranges and professions. With that said, Chris is confident that once the server merges have completed players should find Aion to be a much more enjoyable game overall. No date has been provided for the planned server merges as the team is still in the "planning stages," but information is said to be forthcoming.

Wow I was expecting this game ot tank, but server merges already? That's actually surprising.
I play all ghame
Hey if SOE hasn't tanked Vanguard yet then why would NCSoft tank Aion.
NCSoft tanked Tabula Rasa for less.
AION become like Lineage 2 and nothing we can do about it. Just waiting for Guild Wars 2, hope it will be like GW 1, love it
And here it comes....
server merges needed. cuz of a lack of ppl on some server there cant be PVP raid or taking fortres. for 1 fortres u need at last 700 max lvl ppl (good geared) to be ablbe to take it within the time.
some servers have at like 100-400 ppl max lvl only. other have way to much
This is great news for the unfortunate players stuck on the low pop servers. It's great news for all the imbalanced servers as well.
It's great news for all players currently playing, or waiting for 1.9 to sub/resub that they have a set date and it's coming in 2weeks.
Not so great PR news as we can see how the 2 words "server merges" excites new "doom n gloom" Nostradamus posters predicting the game's death, which is hilarious seeing as it does the exact opposite of this. It marginally improves the game from whichever way you look at it.
Can't wait 1.9 and 2.0 (Alot of new stuff coming, More from 2.0) And as long as 1.9 is not out we won't see 2.0.
Were 1 step foward 2.0 !!!
Thanks for info.
This is a fine game that will deffinately keep ticking. But when I left several months ago, we had been doing the same boring grind at endgame for months, and since the game is so population adn particpation based these upgrades and changes are long long over due.
And also someone said you need 700 peeps to siege and that is absoultely wrong, you can do it with 3+ well orginized alliances, the thing is, when you have sieged almost everyday for months on end, what fun is it? This game needs like 2-3 more dredgion type pvp situations, the ground abyss, and far better content, it needs somekinda instanced raiding as well.
just my op tho
So much for the next great game....Aion is not a bad game, just far too close to Linage II and offers really nothing new.
They won't delete this game as it is far more popular in Korea, but I don't see them ever becoming that popular in the west.
This is not like L2 where patches came at 6-8 months after it was live in Korea, they got it down to 4-5 months between when Korea gets it and when we get it. Hell most MMO's patches are usually atleast 6 months between each other.
Yes, you can keep up on all the gory details right here. Ive read that LOTRO is dieing, WOW is losing subs (which may well be true) EQ2 and Vanguard are all but dead and Warhammer is on life support. I cant think of a single MMO that isnt reported to be in its death throws. Server mergers arnt suprising for a game of this young age considering how the game was hyped. It was going to be "second only to WOW" so I would assume they launced with a lot of servers, and most likely needed them until now, when people have actually seen the game and what it is really like.
I don't know about wich server you guyz are talking but Marchutan (Good Side) and Lumiel (Bad Side) are in very good shape (Always ppl looking to do level 15+ Group content like Black Claw or Krall) The Starter zone 1-10 are never empty.
So what you guyz are talking about does'nt affect those server, They are in really good shape.
Most ppl quite Aion cause of the grind fest, does'nt mean EVERYONE hate grinding, I love the combat Animation in this game so I don't mind grinding at all (I never get bored) The Fights, Instance, PvP and Gear keep me in for a while.
Keep seeing new player everyday, so nope the game is defently not dead on my Servers. It's full of life.
I've been tinkering in Aion for a little over a month now.. Personally I don't think the game is all that great, and the only reason I keep playing it is because that's where my buddies are hanging out until XIV releases.
Kind of a bummer... This was a game I was watching fairly close before it released (and before I took a break from gaming), and to me, it just fails to deliver.
It's like somebody took the character models from FFXI, the combat system from WAR, animations from AoC, UI World design and Interface from WoW and stuck it in a blender with a set of wings and a dash of grind and said "Oh lookie!"...

Server merges is good for games that has lost 7-8/10 of its Western playerbase. Ill buy aion in 2-3 weeks, want to check out the new updates + i like the skill system, combat and the graphics and the most of it actually. Its just that many people talks hit about Aion that ive been afraid to start playing it,but actually they dont know shit about aion so they should just stfu. The open ganking in Aion sucks tough. Should be servers without it!
Hey lets make a westernized Korean MMO, but it will have Non-consensual PVP and a Grind that would put a Vegas Stripper to shame..We’ll call it AION!!!!
This sword here at my side dont act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls! it howls like hell!
Why do you want high level so fast? play through the content and enjoy. Most people just care about getting max level and gear..what after that? yes you get bored and quit. If you PvP at max level you could probably stay for months/years,but without new raid and other pve content it would be boring and you would quit. Aion will probably release expansions soon and the Updates is coming soon with more raid and pve content.
Every time I see these types of posts I just think that you haven't actually played an actual grind game.
Really, you think that Aion's "grind" is atrocious? What about actual grind games?
edit: and what's wrong with having a more open pvp system? Western games can't have this?

To be fair, patches in L2 came pretty much exactly 86-93 days later then Korea. Basically 3 months, pretty much whats happening with Aion. No difference there.
Surprised it took this long for them to do that. The game was nice for the first few months though until I realized it was another Korean grinder.
Sadly this proves one point like with many other new games, purely PvP oriented MMORPG's does not work out. People want content and PvP can only be kept fresh until a certain point. These PvP games should've focuses alot more on making sure there was a ton of PvE content to do while making sure that PvP was not "put aside".
And before someone jumps on me screaming, I am well aware that there are people out there who hate PvE content and loooove PvP content, but if any of you as a person can say after 6 months of Fortress farming or Capital sieges (in Warhammer Online) that it's still a blast every time you do it (which is each night basicly since there's nothing else to do cause of lack of PvE content for variation), then I take my hat off for you. But sadly I don't see the majority of people thinking that way, and well, sub numbers sadly prove it again and again that PvP focused games become underpopulated fast.
Yaa this game rocks badly but it's ,indeed, getting boring after some point. Endless nonsense grind :S Had i never bought it , I would buy it once again , Aion is a great mmo experience until u realise that the only thing u actually do is grinding:P Daaaaaah even endgame pvp is plain grind .Really hope they start releasing some endgame pve content , i rly don't want this game to die
.
Less than a year and already server mergers. Not a good sign for any game.
Aion rocks. My server needs to merge with an Elyos heavy population server as we kill all the Elyos on our server
