Performance difference bewtween Dx9 an Dx10

cukimungacukimunga Member UncommonPosts: 2,258

Got bored and decided to play the trial to see if I changed my mind on if I like the game or not. I get great FPS on high in  dx9 but as soon as I got dx10 with the same high default settings I get much lower performance.. It can't seem to get past 20-25 FPS on DX10 while Im getting from 40- 70 on dx9.  I have to lower my settings way down and the game looks like crap to get good frame rates in DX10.

Im up to date with all the drivers and other dx10 games like LOTRO and DDO play just fine. Is anyone else having these kind of problems?

Cant give you any help if we dont know your specs. If you are playing on some basic machine or have a vid card that is not Dx10 compatible then that might be the issue.

    Honestly I had a hell of a time getting DX10 to load properly on certain Nvidia drivers, so basically went to a modified driver such as;

Not sure on the specifics on why some Nvidia drivers failed so hard to keep my GTX295 afloat in AOC but not having the issue anymore, solid FPS on Ultra (Granted I like to push the limit).

Let me just say that there is very huge differences between Dx10 games and Dx10 games. Age of Conan use most of the Dx10 Kernel and it's effect. AoC also as the only game on the market that have it's own world physics CUDA coded. Running Dx10 on AoC will certainly require more than Dx10 LotRo which basically just use a few of the advantages of Dx10 (No hard feelings LotRO fanboys, but sometimes I just think LotRO made their game Dx10 to be able to sell it as Dx10 ). Anyways, I would love to see AoC go further with that world physics engine. They still did nothing with Force tensors in water.

Here is a little trick for ya (there are many others, but this one is rarely mentioned), use the mouse scroll and zoom in a bit. It will take your FPS up 10 points easily.

DX10 and performance can be different per computer.

But here's a nice guide to tweak your settings and up your framerate, to see what works for you:

    My specs are

    3ghz e8400

    4 Gigs of ddr2 800 ram

    Ati 4850 512mb

    Win7 x64

Its just weird why I get pretty much the same FPS on both dx9 and dx10 on other games but I don't on this one. I see its still in testing so maybe its not fully optimized yet.

I think and someone correct me if I'm wrong but the DX10 in LOTRO and DDO are just overlays. AOC is the only MMO out that I know of that has a full DX10 client.

I am the same with performance issues for DX10. Old T the game almost comes to a stand still, it crawls. Zones like Thunder River I can run around no problem with good FPS.

I have a ATI 3870 x2, ordered a 5770 this week and hope it will run the game in DX10 with no problems.

Please Funcom fix the DX10! Your game looks 100x better with DX10 I want to be able to enjoy it!!

where did you get all this info?

    on topic:

AoC's dx10 is still in unoptimized stage, even Dx9 part needs a lot more improvements.

Famine answered in the last xfire chat that we will see performance improvments and updates to the engine.
