eve, lineage 2 and everquest 2 which one?

legshotlegshot Member Posts: 59

currently downloaded and tring trial version of EvE, lineage 2 and everquest 2. i'd like someone to tell me more about the games at both leveling/starting out and end game content, so far eve seems really nice but doing the missions at the start just feels so repetative, either kill something or mine it (few others but thats basicly it) i know theres pvp in it which is a very strong point but outside of the pvp what is there (i'm not much for one exploring, not saying i wouldn't do it but it wouldn't keep me playing for 1+ years:P) to do outside of pvp?

Looking onto lineage 2, got few errors after tring to play, finally got on and really liked the tutorial and how easy the start was to understand where i was and the fact it was voiced to you. but in comes the movement, i really hated it, tried to wsad and my keybinds where fucked for no reason and kepted entering chat instead of moving, fixed it wasn't hard but almost felt like they didn't want poeople to wsad move. once i fixed the movement was onto the tutorial ect, was still annoyed how bad the movement was compared to other mmos, a and d moved so weird compared to other mmos and pressing s just span u 180degrees around instead of backpeddling, i like people backpeddling because it limits the less skilled players in pvp because they don't keybind and move slow when backpeddling meaning for more skilled pvpers you could use wsad movement to a huge advantage. then started to click to move and didn't really enjoy that, it was more controlled and looked like the game was made that way, i didn't get stuck against random objects (unlike when i tried to wsad move) but i dislike clicking to move, doesn't feel like your in complete controll over your character, more like your just commanding them instead.

now everquest, was funny when i first came on, if you do trial the game only downloads small amount of the game just to get you in, to get around this when you go to certain places you "stream" the game  to your pc live, this ment massive loading times and massive delay in objects spawning, first got on and was floating was like wtf, moved forwards and dropped down ran forwards, looked behind me and saw a huge tree appear out of nowhere, logged out and back in same thing, this time i actually ran trough the tree before it spawned, but anyways, onto the game itself, i rerolled a new character in diffrent starting place to try fix the long loading and it worked, movement is pretty much what other mmos are besides sometimes feels like your not touching the floor and more floating around (like eldars scroll series) easy to pick up and got given quest soon as i got in, started them and found it easy to get used to, only problem is they didn't redirect you to the crafter trainers and others but wasn't much problem finding them myself, just i dind't relise there was any of these trainers till i searched around. I went with ranger - wood elf, the problem is it feels like ranger has to many melee abilitys and is more melee with ranged if you cba, i tried to kite which worked sometimes but the slow you get at around level 4 or 6 does nothing, the only way i could kite was to cheap shot run fire few shots and that was it i could keep running but either mob would run back to it's spawn or still hit me from 10 yards away, main thing i want to know is ranger class better at higher levels as in, you can actually kite people and players or is it nuke with ranged and melee swing till it dies? few abilitys are useable on the move but some ranged abilitys arn't, is there away to find out if you can do it on the move or something? next thing is end game content, i heard the pve is very strong but main thing im worried about is how to gear up, is it easy to get into a guild that will accept lower geared players into there raids or can you run dungeons and get decent gear to start raiding? next thing is pvp, world pvp is it active? battle grounds too i see they just came into the game, next thing is there any kind of arena such as 2v2 3v3 ect?

thanks for reading didn't mean this to be long anything outside of questioned i asked would be huge help, if you've played any of these games i'd be happy to read a wall of text if you could write as much as you can about the games, i recently quit wow after clearing ICC got bored of it, pvp in it is so stupidly unbalanced its unreal, so finding a new game to settle down in and play for few years.

OMG, my eyes hurt after reading that. Paragraphs are a good thing :)

The problem you are having honestly is coming from WoW to those games. Character movement and control seems to be important to you and if there is one thing that WoW really does have over other games is the tight control over your character. It is second to only FPS imo.

Eve is not for everyone, you either love it or hate it. Chances are high if you didn't enjoy it the first go around you probably never will. It is a great game in my book, but not for everyone. Lineage 2 is really a blast, but it is a huge grind and the PVP can be merciless on a lowbie. L2 is probably one of my top 5 games over the past 10 years (with the exception of the bots), but that is probably personal taste. My advice is to give it another shot, find a clan to run with and try and get over some of the control issues. EQII is another great game and I certainly wouldn't judge it by only playing a "partial" client, I'm more a fan of EQI but then all of this is my opinon.

If PVP is your focus I would give L2 another shot, EQII for PVE. If your not stuck on the above choices I would suggest Aion as well. Yes it is a grind but the 1.9 patch due out soon fixes a lot of that and it really is a solid game. If you can find someone who has played the game awhile I believe they can still send out friend invites for a trial.

    Good luck!

yeah sorry about the long paragraphs my bad:P. Controls are pretty important to me purly because i'm used to kiting instead of just nuking it at ranged and afking while i melee swing (i always try play ranged class in MMOs).

Main thing about EvE is just what is there to do, i did enjoy it just didn't really see what other stuff you do besides pvp and do few missions, even pvp downside to that needs decent ship, if i come across 100000bill ship surly i've got no chance so for starting out players are they pretty much screwed?

I'll have alook at aion too, grinding up to max level isn't problem for me really it's just i want the journey to max level be worth it, no point getting to max level finding out the end content is either terrible or so little it's not worht it, which was mainly what i needed to know really, each game i listed i wanted to find out about end game content to keep me leveling or doing those missions on EvE ect. Thanks for reply though gunna have look at aion now see what i can find out about that:P

    Yeah I agree, it's a wow thing.

    Ok op listen up.

First of all, and my opinion, though controls are important I think that people get too caught up in the "wasd is god" rule of thumb. It isn't. It is just one method of moving. Have you played diablo, neverwinter nights, dungeon siege, titan quest? they are click to move and they work. So transfer your experiences from them and you might see click to move in a different light. EVE isn't wasd but it works because of how the game is set up.

You are correct, lineage 2 is a click to move game. My advice is that you need to let go of wasd and look at it in the light of how things are set up. You will find most people clicking to move. It works very well. You don't fight the same way as you do in wow. If you get into pvp matches you will see this.

Second, your approach to the games needs to have a paradigm shift. Of the three games you've listed, EQ 2 is the closes in philosophy to wow. this is because it is enssentially a thempark (and I don't say this in a negative way) pve game, has pvp servers and some pvp on the pve servers) and is quest based for the most part.

EQ2 has a huge amount of classes and races, a lot of content and is updated regularly. I love my shadow knight and paladin in EQ 2. Never liked the art design or the avatars or the zoned world.

EVE and Lineage 2 actually fall into a differnet catagory. EVE is a sandbox world where you the player have to be make your decisions as to how you want to fit into the world. Oh sure there are some quests/missions but it is the type of game where you need to know yourself and know what you want to accomplish and then do it. There is a blog here on this site for the "eve survivor" that has about 7 or so posts describing a person's time as a new player in eve.

    this is part 7, you'll have to find the rest;

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/14/feature/4251/EVE-Online-EVE-Survivor-Guy-Part-Seven.html

I highly advise you read from part one as it sort of shares some of the frustrations a new player might have.

Lineage 2 is actually very much like eve in philosophy. Where EVE's main game play is player vs player interaction (whether that be pvp or trading or politics, etc) lineage 2's game play is also player interaction. Though  a new player should do all the quests in the starter area (this is a new bit of advice as they used to be so so and most people don't do quests in L2) this is a game where you stake out an area and kill mobs. If someone comes along and wants that area they might try to take it from you.

It's about politics, holding hunting grounds and crafting and trading. It's an actual grind game (not like aion which some people think is a grind game. IF they tried L2 and tried to get to lvl cap they would then realize).

Lineage 2 requires a lot of effort from the player. Like EVE, you have to know what you kind of want to do. Also, it is highly advisable in both eve or L2 to be part of a corporation/clan. That is actually the meat of the game play.

I'll be back to check this thread and add anything if I can.

edit: you can kite in L2. It's actually the best kiting I've experienced. you fire, click to another part of the map and when you are ready to fire again, fire, and then hit. It's very fluid.

Looks like you played Lineage 2 for 5 minutes. While you are entitled to your opinion, the movement in L2 is not very bad at all. It's point and click and wasd is horrid on it. It seems the only problem you had was movement, and you quit. You aren't giving the game much of a chance considering most games have some sort of learning curve for the movement or UI. I understand you are used to WoW but L2 probably has the best gameplay out of those IMO, once you get past the grind.

Yeah pretty much panther, that was mainly due to few things though why i played for less than an hour, one being errors, kepted getting an error and L2 crashing, 2nd thing is i've got limited time tring each game due to trials so i was basicly tring the games that so far i preferd. it's kinda why i made this thread though panther need some help with end game content, i can get over controls or grinding easly just i'd prefer not grinding getting to max level finding out the end game content is bad.

well the end game stuff in L2 is good because it is pvp oriented or crafting if that is your thing and of course there is becoming hero and doing the arenas.

Aion is a very good game, sort of a mashup of L2 and wow but not.

They do offer a trial and I possibly can send you one. It's limited but it will give you a taste of the game. send me your e-mail in a pm and I will send you a trial.

Yeah once you hit 60+ in L2 the game gets really fun because of seiging and fortress battles and some of the raid bosses. You just gotta be on one of the populated servers IE:Phoenix, Bartz or one of the euro ones. I'll agree aion is very similar to L2 mixed with WoW but to be honest it didn't feel the same while playing it as L2 or WoW did. Maybe because the combat is different or because of the servers being widely unbalanced and having one side dominating so the other side would just stop trying.
