I'm going to buy a TV and it will mostly be used for Xbox LAN parties. I don't want to spend the money for a plasma TV, but it would be nice to have a widescreen. Projection TV's are cheap and are widescreen and now HD, but I have heard that static images can "burn" into the screen. How true is this? Should I get a projection or are they not for gaming? If not I might just get a normal TV. Thanks

I play XBox on my Projection HDTV all the time. You just have to be careful not to leave static images on the screen too long. Like a few hours... Be careful with something like a racing game that has the speedometer in exactly the same place all the while you play. Stuff like that...
like tv channel symbols they always have in the bottom corner?

Yes, it is possible for them to become a problem, but that really light white color they use is fairly safe, and commercials help break up that burn in...
I have had mine for over a year and I do not have anything burnt into it. Granted, I do not always play my XBox on it, as I also have a 36" TV in the rec room that the XBox is normally connected to.
My XBox is on my HDTV maybe on weekends when friends are over or if I plan to sit down and play for a prolonged time...
Depends on the type of set you buy...
Plasma tv - yes very big risk of burn-in and not just from x-box but any static image. avoid any shows with banners running across the bottom like CNN, ESPN, etc. Also its a good idea to turn the channels or off completely
Rear Projection tv - Yes risk is not as bad as plasma but still very high.
LCD - No risk at all
DLP - No risk at all
My setup is a Hitachi Ultravision HDTV 57' and I wouldnt dare hook up my son's XBOX and risk my investment. My advice is to get a 34' widescreen hdtv and you can enjoy without risk if console games are the whole point for the set. Otherwise go DLP but they're a lot more expensive but also better quality. Most plasma sets are 1280x760 resolution while a DLP set is the maximum 1920x1080 full HD resolution.
Yah that image burning thing is a SoB we had a 62" widescreen HD plasma tv and one day i was bored before school so i hooked my xbox up to it and played some halo....but i forgot to turn it off and i didnt have the auto system turn off thing enabled and school is 6 hours long. so now we have an image burned into the screen that says HALO >_< so my dad took away my xbox and we had to buy another TV. I still have yet to get my xbox back i must play halo 2 but im restricted to my 12' Tv in my room >_<

A projector and a projection TV are two different things.
