Just wanted to add that not only do I have the same problem as the OP, but a lot worse. This also was exactly what happened for me about a year ago the last time I played Vanguard, specifically because of NVidia drivers. I reverted back one or two updates of the driver and it never crashed again, but I lost patience with the game due to so many other problems.

Now a year later, nothing has changed and I don't remember how far back I will have to go with the drivers to get it to work again. The problem is I have 20+ other games on my system now that work a lot better with the latest NVidia drivers, so I'm not willing to revert back again just for one game with very little support and bug fixes. I don't think this game would be having these problems with a bigger team devoted towards optimization and compatability. The team is already way behind on fixing some minor bugs that started as long ago as beta testing.

Also to the people that haven't heard of this happening, first of all you wouldn't hear about it in game because people are crashing constantly out of the game. No brainer there. I can't even last a minute or two before my computer restarts and I don't spend that time seeing how much I can type before it kicks me out again. I've tried all the recommended fixes I could find short of reverting the drivers, which fixed it immediately a year ago. Secondly, the tech support forum has quite a few threads about crashes, so it's definitely not a rare issue.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was the 182.46 drivers that worked back then. If you're determined to get it to work and these other suggestions haven't worked for you, I would definitely try that next.

Edit: Also, it required a clean install of the drivers to work so you need a driver cleaner program to hunt down any traces of your video driver before installing the older one. It still crashed for me without taking this step.

I liked the game, but alas it did not like my PC!

The last time I played it I rage-quit. It's so sad as, as you said OP, it has SO much potential. I can only imagine how awesome it would be if it ran and scaled well.

Just downloaded 19 or 20 gigs for this game.

Read a lot about it, and it seemed the type of game I would enjoy.

Too bad I crash constantly. Haven't got to do anything in the game as yet.

    I am using

    OS Vista ultimate 64bit

    4gb ram

    Nvidia GTS 250

    Intel Quad Core Q8200 @2.33GHz

Not the latest or the greatest, but not ready to use it as a door stop just yet.

I had this same problem with Vanguard when I first started playing, but I traced the problem to a known issue with the NVidia 9600GT video board I had in my system. I replaced the board with an ATI HD4850 and havn't had a bit of problem since. In fact, Vanguard runs quite well on what I consider a mediocre system: Dell Inspiron with a 2.8Ghz AMD X2 processor core, 4GB RAM and the aforementioned ATI video board.

I quit playing Vanguard a few months ago.  But I had no crashing issues whatsoever.
