Instanced game
The game consist of instances after Tortage too, however these instances are larger then Tortage and you will not have to zone as much as you do in Tortage. The world is in genreral more open, if you buy the expansion the zones that comes with the expansion is in general a lot bigger and more open then the ones in the original game. There is still zoning so the world isn't open and seamless as Darkfall is for instance, but the zoning is less required after Tortage. There is some invisible walls in the world after Tortage and these invisible walls prevents you from climbing the highest mountains etc, but you can still do a fair bit of exploring if you like.
Endgame
Endgame consist of 4 raids dungeons often described as T1-T4. T1 is the basic raid stuff where you will get your first raid epics, these are rather simple raids that don't really require the most advanced tactics to accomplish but at the same time people do manage to screw these raids up royally if they do stupid stuff. T2 is a bit harder and do require more tactics on the bosses, some bosses are your typical tank'n'spank bosses whilst other requires the raid to pay attention and follow the boss around and watch out for his effects. T3 I haven't raided, but from what I hear it is thougher then T2, with harder bosses. T4 is brand new so no idea how that is. There is many group instances and these are rather good fun, some are typical tank'n'spank whilst other requires a bit more focus and tactics. Overall the endgame in AoC with the expansion is quite good as it offers a variety of instances for you to do and also good amount of different raids to test your skills at.
Gear PvE/PvP
When it comes to the gear you have a variety of things you can use. The PvP gear do give you slight advantages in PvP, however you can use raid gear or dungeon gear for PvP as well. The higher the Raid gear the better it is of course. Gear makes about 50% of your character, so you can mix and match gear pieces to get a look you like if you prefer that rather then go for the bits that gives the best bonuses and messes up looks.
