Recommondation for a Casual Gamer?

ShorunShorun Member UncommonPosts: 247

Hey guys!

I hope you can help me, because I need something to do in the next time. I played too much e-guitar in the last time so I have to do something less loud in the next time (got problems with my ear). Apart from reading books, I also liked to play MMOs before I became a 24/7 guitar nerd :D. I haven't played an MMO since 2008 or so. My question is:

What MMO would you recommend a casual player?

I thought of standard MMOs like WoW, EQ2 or something.

And I only want to play 1-3 hours a day (when everyone's asleep from 10-12 pm or something like that)

I would like to play WoW but you need to give me information: Can I do something with 1-3 hours? A friend of mine told me some raids need many hours and I also shouldn't use a headset or Teamspeak (because of the ear problem).

I'd like a good mix of instanced pve, instanced pvp (factionwise) and open world questing. I think of WoW, Runes of Magic, EQ2, Allods, Earth Eternal and such. In which game can you have the most fun with little time? Which of those have instanced pvp?

(Warhammer and Guild Wars have too little pve for me I think)

Thanks!

Yeah. But how about WoW and casual gaming? Can I raid as casual or are the raids too long?

And I don't like runescape, mainly because of the graphics, but also because of that sandbox feeling and free pvp.

Yes, it does sound like WoW might be what you are looking for (I wouldn't touch it myself)... but....

You have a great opportunity to try free trials to a whole lot of games! That's my suggestion. You get a pretty good feel for a game in a 14 days trial.

My personal casual fallback game is City of Villains.

I'd still reccomend you try Warhammer online. It is pvp focused though. But it does have a little pve, PQ*s and pve instances.

What's good about it is you can jump in and just have some fun for 1 hour or two doing world pvp or instanced. Or just do some pve quests solo. PQ's are very fun imo.

PQ = public quests (like a small open group or raid of  people doing the same quest - you can leave whenever you want and join whenever you want)

Try the free endless trial! you've got nothing to lose :D

You can jump in, do a random dungeon and jump out within the hour. And you don't even have to reach lvl 80 to do a random dungeon either. Plenty of instances from lvl 20 upwards. On top of that, WoW has stopped being hardcore for quite a while now, leaning towards a more casual approach with each patch / expansion.

Going to recommend WOW, 1-3 hours a day is more than enough time for most activities, even many raids these days.

EVE would be another choice, but reading your OP I'm not sure it would really be your style of game.

The problem is that I love raiding, but haven't got much time. And I think WoW-raids are very long. Are there games with shorter raids?

Played CoV in 2005 or something. Not my thing, I like swords, hobbits, knights and such things :D

Beermangler is right. Also I'm sure you could do some raids in the short time you have to play providing there were groups going (play on a populated server!). A typical PuG group probably doesn't last much longer than 2-3 hours.

Apart from ICC, an average raid takes about 10-30 minutes depending on the group's matyurity.

Thanks for the lots of answers! I'll give WoW a try.

But I'm also thinking of EQ2, I read that there are BGs since "Sentinels Fate" or something.
