LF f2p mmo w/ good pvp

ketsumiFFSketsumiFFS Member Posts: 24

Hi all!

I am currently looking for a F2p mmo that has decent pvp ( solo/world and/or group/instanced) and does not require spending money on an item shop to be viable. I know games with an item shop will always make it easier to level and such with XP scrolls, but as long as you do not have to use the item shop to be viable in PvP or to be viable at all I will be happy!

So far I am thinking Grand Fantasia, Atlantica, or Kingdom Heroes (in beta)....

If any of those games rely heavily on item shops to be good please tell me! (because then I will know not to play them xD)

Anywho, if anyone knows if there are any decent f2p pvp mmo's besides those 3 listed and without cash shop idiocracy, please tell me!!!

P.S. I have a lot of time logged in Guild Wars so if there are any games that have structured group pvp that requires tactics and skill like that game does, let me know!

Thanks!

Perfect World International comes to mind, though its special events are a bit tainted by the cash shop.

number one:silkroad online(if you are patient going in the server since joymax has that frustrating system to prevent player from login in!yes joymax say its to prevent goldseller and all but we all know thee only one prevented are player)

number two:aika online espacially more so now that they announced the expension for 17 of next month so you ll be max level and all just in time to play the expension(my favorite is aika!

silkroad is probably a nono tho since you need the the store to lvl up to max level (unless you dont mind grinding!)

Well, the thing is MMORPGs originally were made with the idea of huge group battles. Multiplayer mode in many 1 player games can support the limited pvp you are asking for. Let me try a few more ideas then..

Runes of Magic (WOW clone, pretty much looks like what WOW will be in a few years minus the polish of the earlier raid content)

Blade and Soul beta sometime at the end of this year.

EVE Online has a few ways to never have to pay if you are skilled enough/play well and long enough.

In all seriousness though, if you want that sort of limited pvp without paying a subscription fee, you'd likely have more fun playing BlazBlue, a fighting game for the ps3/360.

In regards to PW's cash shop, at max level with a good guild, you'll make enough ingame currency from taxes to buy the cash shop gold from the ingame auction house that works sort of like Puzzle Pirates' dubloon exchange, where you get the cash shop currency from other players for ingame currency.

Avoid Atlantica, and well ijji in general. Most of their games are nearly 100% CS dependant.

Their one exception is Soul of the Ultimate Nation, for the time being atleast.

The only CS items in SUN that people buy related to PvP are buff potions and pets that give debuff bonuses, like % to ignore skill effects. These pots/pets do cause some serious imbalance issues, but the community does take their PvP to heart, so using pets or pots is not taken to kindly by it's players, since it moreless makes PvP dependant on luck instead of character builds and skill.

There are player-made "rules" when it comes to serious PvP there, and using any CS item is considered to be more for just random pking.

So if you're looking for a fair and serious PvP game, my suggestion is SUN. It is one of the only f2p mmo's i've played where CS isn't needed at all, the best items cannot even be bought with the CS, they're obtained through playing the game and the same goes for enchanting/upgrading your equipment.

You can also obtain those Pets through getting 100% in the AC (area conquest) system for certain areas/maps, which actually are slightly better than what is sold in the CS, but they are extremely time consuming to earn.
