After the failed launches of AOC and Warhammer Online I don't blame anyone for questioning any developer but as the op stated, lets wait until we see with our own eyes how it works before people lay down the criticism.
I notice some of those posters who flame everything have come to this thread, almost like a moth to a flame. How do you criticize what you don't know? This what I mean about when people talk with baseless assumptions.
And those complaining about hype? Who the hell cares about hype. Are you still in middle-school?

I have to agree, I would be loathe to buy every new MMO that hit the shelves, free trials should be common place for all to try their hand at new releases.

Well, most have an open beta which sort of acts like a free trial, but I agree, if they gave people a month free starting at launch, it would change the face of the industry, it would have be fun for at least that time, and be bascially free of serious flaws before trying to grab our cash.

A game like EQ2 was kind of boring the first then levels but kept getting better and better after that. You can't judge a game based on information written on paper. I have to agree with those that don't really see what the OP is tlaking about at least in comparison's to other games past, present and future.I'd suggest the OP go look at the SW:TOR threads to see wild and out of control negative speculation and criticism based on scant information. Not tha tI'm complaining about said speculation as tha tis all that can be discussed right now.Without speculation positive or negative these games forums would be mostly dead and people have the right to speculate and spout opinion until the moderators think otherwise. How wrong the speculation on both sides is will only be revealed when the game is close to launch and NDA is lifted.
I myself have chosen not to engage in this speculation on any of these games yet because I don't beleive I hav eenough to form any kind of opinion positive or negative, but I don't begrudge others the ability ot do so.My only objection is that it seems on these forums that if Square Enix,Ragnar Tournquist or ArenaNet annouce something, evne if it's the fact that they wil be using commas in their in game text, the majority of posters here proclaim tha tit's fresh and innovative and a landmark in gaming! If Bioware or some Eastern MMORPG announce something th emajority proclaim that it's stale, hindering innovation and the death of gaming as we know it!
Speculate negatively or positively all you want but at least try and be even handed about it.But again that's jsut my personal hang up,everyone is free to do what they wish unless the forum mods say otherwise.
I will agree that this forum is nothing in comparison to the negativity in the SW:TOR forum. And to me all of that is uncalled for. I think part of that over there are old swg vets who want the old swg game back and they aren't getting it.

I don't really agree with this part. Not so much that the common opinion that encouraging grouping is better than solo emphasism, more that people consider something innovative purely from that game company.
At the very least in the case of A-net who most people here didn't even care much for as a company or even liked the features of the previous game. People called gw2 innovative because they actually thought it would be and that had very minor influence from the developer it was from.

You are free to disagree of course and people may turn out to be right about GW2 being innovative but there's evne less on GW2 to base anything on than other games at this stage.Lot's of things look good on paper or evne innovative but in practice turn out to be less so and in a lot of the case the same old same old with a different coat of paint. Also innovative and/or new doesn't always equal fun or good, sometimes ideas just don't work out when it comes to actual implementation and being in use.

SWTOR was always going to have a huge amount of negatively.... a developer that big with a period of time of no information so large it was inevitably going to breed a lot of misconception.
People really hate swtor because of it's supposed single player emphasis which many on this forum consider to be all that's wrong with current mmo's. That specific moaning could have been avoided if the Bioware PR had been more responsive and quickly answered commonly asked satisfactorily.
However announcing such a mmo with such a big name behind it so early with no information about it for such a long time was always going to breed problems further down the line.
Just as the title says, why criticize a game that isn't even out yet. All over the place I'm seeing people say things like the event system doesn't work and that the personal story system ruins it and a metric butt ton of other things. How can you say that when you haven't even tried it yet. The way those people say things is as if they had played the game already and are writing reviews of it. I just don't get why people are criticizing a game that almost no one as played yet. All we've gotten is little bits of info, where's all this new bad info coming from? Or are people making it up?
The anticipation of this game is rivaling that of TOR so this game is in pretty good shape if you ask me, now as to why people comlain? That's just what some people do but I don't really think criticism to the few complaining about this game is very warranted. Now if you were a player who enjoyed STO as it is presently I could see this post fitting with that community but not really where GW2 is concerned. If you let ten people know about something atleast one will complain.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Not in my experience. There seem to be a lot of BioWare faithful on this site. With the typical less-than-objective posts.

People have basically said this in this thread already but it is as simple as this:
The more over-hyped a game is, the more it is critized.
Basically when people have to watch others say a game (that they haven't even played yet) is the most amazing game ever, they feel the need to explain why that isn't true. We watch game after game get hyped up by people giving it 10 on hype before release. Then those same games turn out to be crap (Remember how long Warhammer was top of the hype list, yeah that game was quality....).
People just want others to be realistic for once. No game that is coming out in the next 6 months will be amazing, completely different, or truly innovative. It is not how things work. But people get so excited over the next game release that they forget. Then they preorder, again, and then they come back to the forums after launch saying how they regret their preorder, again.
Don't hype a game so much if you don't want to hear the criticism in return.
It's true but inversely a game needs hype to sell well. Which is ultimately why people hype up games. Without hype games may take severals years to build up a fanbase compared to a game that's highly anticipated.
Either way it's not the hype that kills games but the fact it was poorly made in the first place. Hype is but a means to sell games it's not inherently a bad thing but should always be remembered that it's purely a marketing tool.
Anyway I doubt it even needs to be discouraged since there's more than enough people that have become bitter due to past let downs so much so that most people hyping are probably aware of it's flaws they just want to hope for better days.
Games without good hype that sell well are known as "sleeper" hits, games like Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands fell under this category. MMOs see sleeper hits as well, like EvE and Fallen Earth that released with low hype but amassed a good active fanbase. If you were around when Darkfall was in development, remember the hype meter then? Darkfall was number one on the hype meter for a long time, but upon release, it quickly lost steam. Yeah, it was mostly Aventurines fault by throttling the amount of copies available for purchase, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. Between that and the videos of rabid hacking going on (my favorite was the PvP video where the boat was stolen and flew away) it was lucky to hold on to the meager, dedicated fanbase it has now.

Pretty sure RDR had a fair amount of hype for it was released. Maybe not quite as massive as some games but that fact it was Rockstar game ensured that it was at least there. Besides it's a different story with mmo's since it usually requires a monthly sub which would deter a lot more people than if it gained good reviews and had no sub.
It is also unfortunate that NCSoft publish this game and support it . What a pack of loosers they are. NCSoft has one of the most hated reputations on boards for the complete lack of customer care, massive botting , RMT and the stuff you attitude from the staff at NCSoft. There are so many people that will hate this game just because NCSoft is developing it and I would agree with them. NCSoft do make great games but the staff that look after you on the boards, email, phone and an ingame GM are pathetic. Poor managemet, training, staffing and care factor are just some of the points that make people hate NCSoft so much to never play a game from them again. Want thousands of bots play an NCSoft game.
I've been looking forward to this game since I read in a magazine article in 2007 that the game was gonna be out in the summer of 2009. Still waiting, but the patience was gone years ago.
I will probably put down every game I am playing to immediately pick up my copy of GW2. I hope there is a closed beta that I can sign up for and be selected for and I am gonna pre-order it as soon as possible. GW1 was my first true MMO love, but got caught up in the WoW craze when the expansions came out and I never got back to it.

LOL! You look so foolish in this post. You should look up your facts before you go on a silly rant. NCSoft is not the developers.. thus they have quite little to do with the actual game itself. But still... this post is just very very sad... And don't say they have the most hated reputation. I don't hate them so lets be clear that this is your opinion.
Thats strange. The OP must have stumbled upon some extremely negative threads then as most of the responses to GW2 that I have seen have been very positive. Lots of people are naturally skeptical of course but then thats hardly surprising considering that there hasnt been a decent mmo for a long time. Every mmo I've seen in the past 5 or so years has been absolutely fucking shit. There isnt a single mmo that I think is worth my money at the moment.
GW2 is basicly offering all of the good stuff that has been missing in mmos such as dynamic content, actual depth to character creation that goes beyond predictable stuff like race and class selection and various other things. I find it quite difficult to avoid feeling hopeful about this game considering the high production values that went into the original Guildwars. I think GW2 will be one of a number of games that contiribute to waking this lousy stagnating genre up.

Whilst NCSoft are nto the developers of GW or GW2 they are the owners of the developers.Just like Paragon Studios who operate CoX,ArenaNet is wholly owned by NCSoft and overseen by the NCSoft West division of the company.Whilst they seem to of left Paragon and ArenaNet alone to run their games in the past(or so it seems from the outside looking in),NCSoft can interfere and change things anytime they wish.So in fact your post is actually jsut as inaccurate as the eprson you ridiculed.

There should be a sticky FAQ on this forum. For the 100th time, NCSoft does not develop this game.
