The artistic style in Guild Wars 2

The art style in the first game (and this one) are so unique and lush and just have the air of subtle chaos. Guild Wars deserves much more credit for its artistic style then it gets.

Well they are known to have some of best concept art in mmo's if not "The" best and are pretty up there with games in general. They've won countless awards for their concept art and are regarded highly in the concept art world just check on Concept art forum. I mean Daniel Dociu recently won a gold award in Spectrum 16 for concept art with Kekai and Jaime winning silver. They really do clean up.

While it is a little too 'fantasy' for my subjective tastes, I have to give the art style from GW1 and GW2 screens a lot of credit. Objectively, it has a unique and coherent style. It is obvious they have gone to great lengths to make different nationalities in the game have fashions. The designers could easily do well in AA movie set and costume design.

ive always love the look and feel of guildwars, that's why i have more than a thousand screenshots of the game
and i am not alone: there are plenty of people who stick around Pre-Searing Ascalon (newbie training ground for Prophecies chars which is separated from the current gameworld) because of the sheer beauty of the place

i loved that part of their focus in GW2 is exploration of the gameworld. i remember vanquishing and carthoing Prophecies after 4 years of playing and i was quite surprised of some beautiful places i missed the first time around. screenshots galore!

ive read in an old GW2 article that ANET prefers this type of graphics more than photorealism because the latter gets old really fast

Guild Wars Prophecies had the best graphics out of any MMO released in its time. I hope that Guild Wars 2 can again have top notch graphics compared to other MMO's released in 2010/2011. Though I know that the footage that has been released already is not completely polished it seems as if GW2 will have run of the mill graphics. Atleast the artistic style looks to be as awesome as ever.

The landscape were amazing in GW but I couldn't stand the characters. Instead of warriors they looked more like some fashion models from Milano.

Well the male warrior's themselves didn't look very much like models they all had pot belly's and seemed far more normal looking that most other profession's. All the other did kinda look pretty model-esk apart from the necro's they just looked like weird goths....

I like the character models in guildwars and I think that they are an integral part of the Guild Wars style.

Overall, I love the art style of Guild Wars.  I find myself measuring all other games against it.  There are only one or two games out there that I consider playable because of being spoiled by Guild Wars.  In spite of what my xfire box says, I do play other games every now and then.  It only takes a coupld of hours of second rate artwork to hurt my eyes enough to go back to Guild Wars.

Some of the guild wars 2 concept art is just simply amazing.

I really do agree and love some of the artists they have there.

There is a richness to the art and GW1 engine itself that I haven't seen very often in games.   It will be something to see what they do in GW2.

I agree that Anet's artist know what they are doing.  You can tell just from the GW2 concept art or by playing GW1 that these people know perspective and how to use it to draw in the audience.
