I love it when games go the extra step and actually add depth to armor and clothing. Which is why this excited me as i was reading "The Fashion of Guild Wars 2"
"Is there a significant difference between the games in terms of design and the tools available to you?
Oh good golly, we had to completely reinvent ourselves. There are leagues of difference in terms of process and result between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Perhaps one of the most significant new tools is the use of normal maps. For the first time, we can make use of much higher modeling techniques to add richness to an otherwise modest poly budget. We do have more polys to throw around as well, but there’s a lot to be said for the smoke-and-mirror use of a good normal map. I think perhaps what I love the most, besides normals and the fun of 3D sculpting, would be the silhouette polys I can now add and the higher texture resolution that goes with it. A collar may have edge depth, whereas before it may have just been a texture shadow. I can add more fullness to forms and folds and really get a nice layered look."

-1 for me missing an important detail. This is good, giving armor and such a more lifelike quality where use of shadow or layers can at times be gimmicky and slightly buggy. If this holds true going into the game will make armor that much more appeasing to the eye and possibly give them more room to play with different designs.
won't really effect the designs more like you are just getting more polygons, texture space, and Optical illusion shadows. one thing that could effect design is more texture space and Geometry, which allows you to do more asymmetry in a design.
Uh, yes it will. You do not see this very often : http://www.arena.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/CorsetF-800x800.jpg
"Well played Trebeck"
It's so very hard to not get wrapped up in everything this game is doing and moving forward on. There are so many things this game offers that get me excited to actually play and dedicate time to a MMO again. I just don't want to get too sucked in to the hype, GW2 and FF are giving me reason to not give up on the MMO market.

might want to learn what the word design means, yes they got more detail. you can execute that design with any polycount or texture resolution. Their are only a few memory restrictions placed on a design, the largest being extra limbs, heads, asymmetrical design. some times it can also be dangling pieces that are to large with to much depth to be painted into texture.
Explain to me how it changes design. Guild wars 1 uses embroidery work in their designs already, yes the embroidery is more detailed and refined, but that isn't really a change in design.
