Will you pre-order Guild Wars 2

shazuginshazugin Member UncommonPosts: 70

I will most likely be preordering. If it comes with beta access or a cool mini-pet it just makes it all the better

I have never preordered a game.

I will consider it with GW2, only to avoid any possible supply issues.

    Probly not

Agreed but I doubt that is going to happen but if it does I'll boycott every pc mmo and wait for console mmos and just play Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 forever.

Never preorder, ever.  There is no gimmick, toy, collector's item, etc that is so important that I have to put my benjamins at risk to get it.

Games that look great pre-release too frequently turn out to have fatal flaws on release.

The only game I have *ever* preordered was FTL's "Chaos Strikes Back", the ca. 1990 sequel to Dungeon Master.  The hype around the game was so strong, and previous FTL releases had been scarce enough that it seemed like a great idea to secure my right to have it on release day.  And since Dungeon Master was (still is) one of the greatest games of all time, who could imagine that the sequel would

    suck

    so

    goddamned

    hard.

    But it did.

Since 1990 I've seen endless cycles of slavering fans convince themselves that the Next Big Game is going to be soooooOOOOOOoo awesome that it's worth preordering.  Most of them don't turn out to suck, but it happens often enough to be a really bad idea.

And with digital distro, availability/scarcity isn't even an issue.

A foo' and his money are soon parted.  True in 1990.  True today.

This is a def yes for me, after the first guild wars, I will be buying a collector's edition if they have one...  I wanna see the system reqs though. I was banking on APB but the sys reqs are rediculous to me. Should have been a console game. Tried the beta, because I thought maybe those were the recommended sys reqs. 9800GTX+ 7750 AMD Athlon DC... only thing that is bad is that a stick of RAM crapped out on me, left me with 2 gigs.

Yeah i see what youre saying and i agree with you on some parts. But just because you have had a bad experience the 1 time you preordered doesnt mean you are doomed to have it repeat each time. Guild Wars Prophecies was released with very few flaws. I am fond of Guild Wars and i know i will enjoy it. I would be in complete agreement if you were posting this on a game with a new company behind it and no history.

This is the only game comming that I will most likely preorder and its not even the one I am looking forward to the most. Guild Wars 2 will be good. Everything else is what I am worried about.

Even if I think it's going to let me down in any way I'm preordering GW2.

I loved the first one(s) (including the expansion)...and not just the game, I don't even play anymore. But I always loved the lore, GW had to have some of my favorite lore out of any mmo I've played. So whether it will let me down or not, I'm pre-ordering it.  Arena Net has never been a company to screw-over it's players, and they care about their playerbase, so I think they will try their best to make a game that everyone will enjoy.

Unfortunately, my days of pre-ordering mmo's appear to be over.

    1. Warhammer preordered   Check and disappointed

    2. Aion CE preorderd  Check and burned

    3. STO.... Waited  3 days after release, not long enough to watch the chips fall...

As much as I'm a glutton for punishment, I believe I've learned my lesson on pre ordering, no matter how solid a game seems...  Most disappointing of all, because of these debacles, not sure if I'm even gonna preorder FFXIV and it's really the only thing I'm looking forward to atm.  =(

Imho, never preorder an mmo unless you've got cash that you would willingly set on fire and watch burn...  Which would actually be more fun than some of the last few "big" releases...

Sure. I liked the first game and have some experience of Arenanet.

And even if the game really sucks I will still buy it to support companies that makes new ideas and try different stuff. I am really bored of EQ clones now.

Yes. I was not there for the launch of Guild Wars, but I was there for the Factions preview weekend, and the Nightfall and Eye of the North launches. They were smooth, reliable, and delivered in every way. ArenaNet has proven itself to me and I don't consider a pre-order to be a gamble on the quality of their products.

Kind of surprising, and refreshing to see some of these comments. sur ethere is the expected dissappointment of recent releases, but its nice to see some of the stuff regarding supporing the game as well as Arenanet for what they do, regardless of wether they end up liking the game or not. Big difference from the rampant hatred of some other big name companies and the amount of people will never even buy anothe rof their products, let alone actually preorder something from those companies.

Everything ive seen about the game so far i am 100% for, and I cantw ait to see what else they have to show us. And even if it doesnt turn out so well in execution, im of a similar mind to the people mentioned above. Theyre a great company who tries to offer a superior product and please their fans, even if it doesnt always work out that way sometimes.

My point is that, if like me you don't care about trinkets, collector items or in-game exclusives, then there is zero point zero zero zero benefit to you from preordering.  They are *not* going to run out of electrons before you get your copy downloaded.  I could see maybe if the publisher has their shit together early enough to allow preorders to *pre-load* the game to avoid the download rush... that could be a valid reason.   Still, you're better off waiting a day or two anyway.  I remember all the BS that Spore caused people who tried to preload ... or cases where preorders discoverd that some game had some crappy DRM in it and wanted refunts.

And I can't even remember how many times recently it's been possible to buy a preorder pack *post release* and still get the prestige item.  For hellgate London they were available two months after release, and a lot of people who preordered just for the dye packs were pissed, a) because the game had major launch problems and b) the dye packs weren't really exclusively preorder items.

I think th GW launch spoiled me and made become a cynical gamer with the shit house attempts of developers after it

p.s. profecies launch was pretty friggin smooth

    Seconded

Even if it'll be a shit game (which will definately not) I'll be more than glad to support devs that tried to bring in something new.

    .

    .

    Sounds quite melancholic and doubtful...

THIS GAME IS GONNA FREAKING ROCK THE HOUSE, G!

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Console MMO's are... tricky... if you are expecting something similar to Guild Wars on a console.... don't Hold your breath, you may hurt yourself.   Now APB could have a shot on the console because the controls are simple, and you are much more interractive with what you are playing. Then again though, some people would say that APB is not an MMO *shrugs* Either way you lose because PC's are easier to upgrade and are used more, even by the common average Joe for his own work. I'm more than sure Joe can't bring an xbox past his bosses office to his cubicle where he crunches insurance numbers all day. ( I have already seen this happen btw. ) So that is ending that one now.

As for me preordering this game, I myself personally may or may not be. I know for sure though my wife and family will be. The game does look great though, and I am impressed with how they are putting it together. Only time will tell though. With as big of a fanbase that Guild Wars has, I don't see the game flopping any time soon.

Pre-ordering.... HELL YES! I mean GW2 seems to be changing the MMO world. Not saying it's a WoW killer or whatever killer but the unique system is implimenting is just amazing.

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

I usually do not advise preordering.

But considering its Anet GW2 - there is little to no risk being burned by preordering vaporeware.

Still , i will only do it if it guarantees beta acess , or some considerable perk.
