Computer Horror Story (Cool It Systems)

Okay another computer Horror Story...

On 6/7/2009 I purchased a Free zone Elite Cpu Cooler, From CrazyPc, which is made by Cool it Systems for

$375.59 USD, and I installed it on my pc being really simple, for 24 hours or less it worked Perfectly Fine for my CPU was frozen to Like Omg 40F.

Now here is the horror Part.

The Next day I try to turn on my PC, the fan on it fails, which I call crazy pc, and they ask me to call Cool It systems for an RMA, which I did, and after this, They sent me a new Fan, and then the Pump doesnt work....

So They RMA the entire unit, Total of 2 RMA requests here...

After this, I finally get another Refurbished system, and it works Really well, for about 3-4 months, no problems, and then all of a sudden the same damn thing happens, in the Morning I go and turn on my pc, walk out of the room and it turns itself off, which I immediately know what the issue is being a computer nerd. So I call Cool It systems again, and they send me another one refurbished which I just recieved today, and here is the intesting part...

I install this unit, after taking hours of getting it in properly due to all the hardware I have in my pc, cleaning it, and squeezing it in my system, and it appears everything works fine, but here is the interesting thing...

The Mtech Control Unit, which is the little black box, Is all screwed up. I unplugged the sensor wire after plugging it in to straighten it out some more, and guess what happened. The whole Jack came out, which I easily got back in okay no damage done, However  now they are stuck together the Main Cool it wire and the jack converter which the unit uses, and even though its plugged in, the Mtech unit says that its not even working correctly, while the software mode says it works Great...

Here is the interesting part, but I wont tell them this because I don’t want to void the warranty, I unscrew the unit to check the controller, and see if it was damaged or anything, and I found that the Refurbished part had Some kind of drink or food spilled in it, or something that of course me just receiving the unit couldn't be from me. I attempted to clean it with CPU Cleaner, and fix it, but it still shows hardware wise that the unit isn't working Plus the jack problem stuck to the main Unit now...

Last time I was on the phone with cool it systems they said they were just going to send a whole New Updated Unit Sealed, ect. Apparently this isn't one, not that I really Care, I just want a unit that actually works...

Also get this, their instruction manual, has errors with the wiring especially on the Refurbished models and stuff. I find this all really quite insane, that a company could allow this to happen. I have used many CPU coolers in the past, other RMA orders on video cards, and such... Never in the past have I had this issue with any other company, nor have I had to take my computer apart  twice a day or such because they asked me to recheck the unit and all of this crap, which is just their unit because my PC works just fine right now, Minus their CPU Cooler...

So here is the question, I give the guy a call back, which is a really nice guy, and explain to him this, if they cant fix it by phone or whatever, and refuse to take care of a unit which I paid over $300 USD for and fails quite often every since I bought the damn thing, Should I call a lawyer, or what... I mean seriously this is outrageous going through so much issues like this with my computer because a company cannot get it right...

If this company just isn't really going to fix my damn cpu cooler, and get it working since its been giving me issues since purchase, I would just appreciate such if there was actually a way to get my money back, and Honestly I don’t really care if this company refuses to do business with me in the future, because I know what they are doing, and would not buy another system from them again.

Seriously..you bought a $300 cooler? What kind of cooler is that, does it blow artic winds or is it one of those liquid cooling devices.

I use cheap stock heatsink and fan, never failed me yet. :D

Thing you can do is look for a replacment and forget that broken piece of hardware. The time you will spend to fight them and or get a new one, is more worth than $300.

There are some things that really are not practical for home applications.  These include print head in printer, and liquid cooling systems.  Obviously these are considered performance parts, but the home includes alot more dust and other things that can clog that are not present in an office or server farm.  On fan failures, sometimes you just get duds.  I have purchased dozens of fans and I would say if you are spending under $5 which they probably did on this cooler for the fane, it has a 40% chance of failure.  A refurbished part is less of a gamble then a new part in regards to failure since they are usually have gone through initial testing in creation and retesting in refurbishment.

The other thing to remember is the more complicated the device, the more likely it can screw up.

I couldn't agree more with Cleffy, especially with the last sentence, which is why I refuse to use anything other than regular fan cooling.  I've had 2 liquid cooled systems hit the crapper because of the ash and dust that flies around here in Alaska.

You paid over 300 dollars for a cooling unit? LOL... As the above posters have stated... a high quality heatsink and fan would do the job just fine and even the top end ones only run around a hundred bucks. Does your CPU run on Plutonium or something? LOL

I can see the application of a $300 cooling unit, like a Compressar Pump.  But its more of something you would use if you clean it weekly or place it in a certain area that isn't prone to dust.  Like a well cleaned basement with cement floors, dry walled, and proper ventilation.

Yeah... just make sure you get the cool glowing neon all over it too. I hear that improves performance just as much as liquid coolers do... LOL... They are just a gimick to show your friends how super uber your gaming rig is and nothing more. Do they work? Sure they do but they are overkill for any home computer... even high end gaming rigs.

You sound so sure of that.

I have my system liquid cooled.  CPU and GPU.  My I7 920 runs at 4.2ghz stable and cool.  My 5970 is also overclocked.

I paid $300 for the i7, and maybe $200 to cool just the CPU (it's in it's own loop), but got more than the performance of the $1000 i7-975 (which stock is only 3.33ghz, air cooling OC could get it to 4).  So basically, I saved $500.

My system is cool, quiet, and vastly more powerful than it could be with air.  All for the price of one video card (about $400-$500 to liquid cool the cpu and GPU.

Sounds to me that you speak out of jealousy.

If you say so... LOL. Your system sounds impressive... you must wow all your friends with it. I have a fully air cooled laptop... yes LAPTOP that will play any game at the highest details without a single glitch. Your system is way overkill, It must impress the hell out of your friends though. Your overblown system is for bragging rights and nothing more. Does it have the useless clear case and all the pretty useless neon in it as well? You seem like the type. My little laptop can play any game that your super system can play at the same detail levels and it barely gets warm. I paid less than $1000 for it as well. Jealous? I think not.

I could've bought liters of liquid nitrogen for less than $100.

Check if their company is listed with the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. It has worked for in the past; in the worst case, you will still get a response.

bbb.org, if you want to go down that route.
