well, bought gear good for 20's is about 60-70 silver.. thats 7/10 of a gold piece... but a horse is like 3pp...
You can't tweak at all. That is what is so good about EQII.

enigma has like 15 pieces...
it's not hard to get cash
and to the other guy, you're not playing because you can't tweak? does that mean you were going to buy money from an online seller? Hell, it's overpriced anyway! in one week i had a piece of gold! why the heck would you spend 70 bucks to get that?

You cant tweak because theres reqs on mostly everything.. but in wow isn't everything reqed on skill? like 40 slashing to use an object? I cant remember.. I got to level 20.. but only played for a day..
WoW is based on character level requirements, it's pretty much the same item system as Diablo 2 exept good drops are far less common.
So... level based? only req is eq2 is um.. well..that the item isn't like 5+ levels of goodness more than you can handle :O....You can always twink by jsut buying stuff that your char can use.. or use some under conned good quest items that you cant actually get till your 40s :P Who knows... but ya.. 1 gp= not much :P
Once I see stuff being sold for 100's of p, I will be a sad panda.. people always sold stuff for hundreds of thousands and such in eqlive.. at least atm the only auctions are stupid ones.. like 5 gold for some tin :O
I was thinking of buying the game and some gold pieces to twink my character.
I don't like to grind by myself, when I can just buy some gold off of a company with a game sweatshop.

Every Item in the game has a lvl / stat requirement. If your char doesn't have that stat or the lvl in the stat you can't use it. Hence No Tweaking. Aka makes the game that much better thank god.

Are there actually "uber rare drops" in EQ2 for all different kinds of levels? And does it have a special name or mark or appearance to show its special?

What about items that are SO RARE that only few exist per server?
money isnt too hard to come by. besides, you can get some very good gear for free by questing. really no need to twink. that being said, it still would have been nice to have a gold in my pocket when i first started.
Yes. They made rare drops for different level "tiers" in the game.
They will have a special name and not like "blackened iron dagger". Also you will be required to "attune" the item to your character in order to utilize the benefit. If you pre-ordered, you're familiar with attunement since you had to attune your J-Boots before the speed enhancement would work on them. One they are attuned, you can't trade them to anyone.
In my personal opinion, I think in the high end game this exists. As for someone from SOE stating that is indeed the case, I have not seen that anywhere. And since the game is strongly geared toward exploration, I don't think they would tell us anyway.

That would bring at least some player influence on this game.
I made my first gold piece today and I am 24 silver from my second. Buy it if you want. Its your money. You won't be able to spend it all and will soon figure out that you wasted your money but oh well. Good luck with buying virtual money.

3rd day here? Save yourself some trouble and avoid flame threads about either EQII or WOW, nothing comes out of them except for a few banned accounts. Otherwise good luck trying to remain on the site for a few weeks.
