Overly Excited about FFXIV

TanaiiTanaii Member Posts: 41

Hey everyone.  This is my FIRST post, but I have been a fan of this site for years.   I've played Final Fantasy XI since day 1 release in America and instantly fell in love with it.  I've tried several other games (WoW, EQ I, EQII, LoTR, Guild wars, AoC, Aion, WAR) and always came back to Final Fantasy.  I'm not sure what it is that draws me to Final Fantasy XI --  I've been playing the series ever since the first one came out on the original Nintendo.

We can all "harp" on certain issues (graphics, movement, battle speed, etc...), but one thing FFXI is good at is bringing people together.   I have made many lifelong friends because of this game...both people in the same city as me and across the globe.  The community itself (despite all the "less-desirables") is one thing that made the game worth playing.   I do not care whether or not we are allowed to "jump" or swim or whatever.....I just hope the game all together fosters a sense of community and belonging.  Of course, there are people who are not into gaming for the community....that is totally alright as well.  Diversity is what makes the gaming world so interesting.

FXIV i hope continues to build on what they started in FFXI....and hopefully they will add elements that other people are looking for as well.  I have seen some of the most drastic changes occur since day 1 up until now with FFXI.  I'm excited to say after everything I have read......Final Fantasy XIV can't get here quick enough!

Peace to all,

Tanaii

100% agree with every sentence. FFXI eventually got too time consuming for me, but I still felt a void after leaving. I tired to fill it with other mmos, but the community in the others failed compared to FFXI.

I think I have out grown mmos, but maybe FFXIV will renew the spark.

  • I have a feeling that the people who make a community less "people friendly" are the ones who are not so interested in the style of gameplay FFXIV will have to offer, if it is as close to FFXI as it seems.

They will probably end up staying in WoW or trying other games if they've become bored of WoW.

I think tons of players are overly excited about FF14 and that can be good or bad pending on hype. Unlike other mmo's, its not as much of an "action~packed" game and tends to deter the player base that wants quick results and entertainment like a console game which is a positive imo for FF since it gives it good lasting power and the capacity to explore. Unlike most other titles as well, FF11 was more polished and orderly when it hit US release but that refinement did come at the expense of a much later release for the NA market. My only concern really is whether in an attempt to avoid alienating their main player base they really just released a full FF11 close in a better dress and with elements made to address problems you cant really fix in 11.

I want a new world to explore, that feels like a world not a game but that also has game.  One with a ui that is smooth enough not to get in the way of the exploring the world or of the playing the game.  Also classes that are complex enough that you can always be thinking of new ways to play it.

    Peace to all,

    I couldn't agree more.

My old linkshell really felt as family, well at least the people that played on the same times as me.

    I miss my family.

I hope to find something like that again in FFXIV.

not on you personal Aspiin, but too often reading this comment....community is whats wrong with other MMOs.  you will never GET communlty you have to build it, and in said community there will always be some you will feel less like playing/experience the game with - if bored those who play in another manor than yourself, is what you will put your focus on, and well come to the conclusion...this MMO have a bad community.

am almost certain if ppl cared to they could find ' their'  great community in just about any MMO, only diffrence with 2nd or 3rd or 20th MMO, being you d just not care to BUILD the community - again not on you personal just the comment  :)

You are so very correct.   So many people are "mmo-hoping" as I call it and never seem to find where they fit in.  Before you know it, we are all off to the internet looking for another "potential-game-filler" that may or may not live up to our expectations. -- I'm guilty of this myself.  We enter games with expectations - - and then we are let down because they don't immediately become filled.   I remember when I started Final Fantasy XI I felt very alone....but with persistence and loyalty to the game, I found my place.    Hopefuly the devotion and resilience of the Final Fantasy fan base will make FF-XIV a wonderful game.... And hopefully (which I am sure it so) the makers will continue to deliver a fine game with a great storyline.
