...what would it be? I ask this in light of the class information updates from Rift: Planes of Telara and the sentiment expressed by some that those classes are the same old same. I must note I prefer skill based systems but I thought this might be fun. Doesn't have to be elaborate. Just enough to give an idea.

**The challenge is to try to come up with something different**

So, here's my shot:

Skirmisher

Armor: Light and Medium, Shield

Weapons: Slings and javelins for ranged combat. Assortment of spears for ranged and melee

Abilities: A mixture of crowd control type abilities along with group offensive buffs.

Elder Variants: Light Skirmisher and Heavy Skirmisher.

The Heavy Skirmisher would gain more melee damage buffs/attacks and the use of some heavy armors. Think Hoplite.

The Light Skirmisher would gain ranged dmg buffs/attacks with the javelin and sling as well as movement buffs. Think Peltast.

Ok, for lack of anything better to shoot my mouth off about.

    Defender of Lost Causes (whatever):

A tank class.  Heavy armor.  Sword and sheild.  With a key ability called last stand or something.  The ability could only be used if the group is being overwhelmed.  It would probably be tricky setting up a reliable check for that but we're daydreaming so....

Anyway, if your group is getting beat up pretty bad or you get swarmed by too many mobs, assuming the game could do a check to determine that the odds are against you, then the ability is usable.

What it does is provide a huge defensive bonus and huge agro generation but at the price that the tank cannot run away or be teleported away.  Once he uses it he's committed to the fight to the end even if everyone else in the group runs away.

Would give you a way to play the self sacrificing hero, etc.  But it would only matter if there was a death penalty.

    The Gas Guzzler

You can move really fast, run over your enemies for high damage, special roar attack the deafens, but you run out of stamina really fast and must refule by drinking large quantities of alcohol.

(BTW, I don't really want to give the lame copy cat developers any ideas here.)

    Bloodrager-

    Cloth/Light Armor

    Dual Wield Axes/Blunts

An overall focus on attack speed an evasion, while having awesome health regen.  It would be a DPS class that, though it's damage per strike wouldn't be the highest, would have a fast enough attack speed to be able to dish out a considerable amount of DPS in a short amount of time.

The Bloodragers evasion would need to be high for it's lack of decent armor, but it would have nice regen and combos that would increase health regen to allow survivability when enemy attacks do land.

    Tinkerer

    Pet class

Light armor, very basic attack skills

Can summon different types of creations into the battlefield as needed. Clockwork creations, Healing stations, explosives, maybe even turrets. I know some classes have sort of tried this (Engineer from WAR), it really hasn't been done RIGHT yet in my opinion.

I would take it back to the beginning...  Not one class, but all classes in the game.  I will go back to all of the classes not being overlapped, skill based and all being vital to the operation of a group or raid.  Not what we have today with 3/4 classes that can heal or tank or dps.  Each character should be able to bring something unique to a group or raid.   The last thing is your play affects your environment and your playstyle affects what you get in a game.

    Cleric

Heavy Armor, low defense, no egded weapons, spells are granted by a diety, alignment matters and gameplay affects alignment.

    Geofluxer

Armor: Cloth     Weapons: blunt / shield

Abilites: Elemental shapshifting (similar to Druid in wow).

Earth - tank form.  roots, stuns, falling rocks, aoe earthquakes. dust devils CC

fire - caster form. fire ball, rain of fire, fire dots.

water - healer form.  heals, buffs.

air - melee dps form.  dual wield phantasmal weapons.  melee strikes, bleeds.

Persoanlly i always play something like a anti-paladin in the games i play, but thought something like this might be interesting.

    Riftwalker

The class would based around ability to interact with Rifts in various ways.

    Abilities would include:

Rift Stability Control:  control of the pace at which monsters emerge from rift  to slow / speed up the advance.

Rift Lure:  control of the type of monster that emerges from a rift - abitliy to draw out more powerful enemies.  Multiple Riftwalkers would be able to pool their powers to summon the most powerful enemies.

Rift Detection:  a sort of tracking ability for rifts.

Beneficial Rift:  opening a special rift that brings beneficial creatures into play to assist the Riftwalker's party.  Multiple riftwalkers would be able to combine powers to summon greater allies.

Riftwalk:  an ability to facility travel through / in rifts.

The Riftwalker's combat abilities would be based on the type of rift s/he is interacting with. So if the group is interacting with a rift to the plane of Death, the Riftwalker's death-based abilities would be the ones they would use.

    AWESOME!!

    THE PERFECT CHARACTER CLASS

  • pauly6478pauly6478 Member Posts: 276

They should create a class called the "Stereotype"

Make him fat and bald with stomach hanging out his shirt. He has stains from cheese fries on his shirt.

Weapon of choice a Molotov made from a mountain dew can and twinky grenades.

Light armor ofc because heavy armor would be way to much work to wear.

Lets make it happen you know someone would play this class.

    Concept is cool though.

Edit, I laughed hard at pauly idea ... imagine this frantic pvp battle in which Stereotype dominates the battlefield - in a way it's the most popular class due to opness ;)

    Reaver

Not undead but has similar apperance to resident evil zombies.

Weapons would be spiked clubs, sickles, scythes, and saws.  They aren't a very melee offensive class and their weapons are more for causeing pain and intimidating others while causing bleeding DoT damage as oppsed to a heavy burst or spike attack.

Their abilities would include vampiric life draining, DoT bleeding attacks as well as mental debuffs.

Make games you want to play.

    quick reaction

    quick reflexes

very slow movement speed over medium and long distances.

able to move very quick over short distance.

    weakness to magic.

natural ability: death stare- a single opponent fleeing from battle falls into a state of shock and is unable to move.anything immune to fear or death spells is unaffected.

able to roll up into a death ball and be shot from catapults

I don't mind if this is already posted, but I just have to say this: Yes, I understand it's not original, but I love me some legend of zelda something fierce!

    Class: Adventurer

    Gear: Armour=All but plate I Weapons= EVERYTHING

    Skills/Abilities:

    Seasoned Adventurer:

Those who party with you feel safer for having such a watchful and experienced eye over them/generic stat boost.

The class would focus on a mix of all stats and have a little catch...

    GADGETS!

    Artifact Hunter's Collection:

The young one can create/fix/repair/break/modify/enhance/polish exotic items and combine them so they only take one inventory space. Only one raw material to make any gadget.

In generic RPG terms, he's really not a jack of all trades. When you read these rules, think D&D-esque game play style.

Well I love pure DPS casters, but being able to survive like a hardcore tank would be nice, so my class would be a hybrid of the two.

    Wizarrior

    Armor: Heavy reinforced platemail

    Weapons: Staff/Shield

Abiliies: High dps DD nukes with very long range. Also a passive ability that has a 25% proc rate upon targeting any enemy  they die instantly (clicking someone 4 times is almost a garunteed kill). Additionally, the wizarrior will be able to use their shield to temporarily stun nearby enemies til they die. The class will also be able to  go into a rage upon taking damage which will quadrouple its hit points, damage output and passive proc rate.

The class will be able to spec into warrior or wizard specific roles as it reaches end game. Warrior will be granted god mode along with the base class abilities. Wizard will be granted a passive ability that will kill all players within the game world upon logging in.

Edit: Before someone asks what happens when a wizard spec wizarrior logs in next to a warrior spec wizarrior (unstoppable force/immovable object scenario), I think the server catches fire and explodes, everyone has to reroll and start again.

    Meat Shield

I require nothing more then how to pound my face on a keyboard and how to get beat off by enemies 500x my size and 500x higher in skill and hp. I require lots of retards to heal me so I can stand around like a moron getting anal.

One I came up with some time ago:

Name: Blade Kaiser (or Blade King)

    Role: Hybrid DPS/Pet/Subjugation class

Armor type: Mostly Light (such as Leather) but required to use Medium-Heavy (such as Plate or Chain on Hands and Arms due to the power and protection needed to wield the blades as they do)

Weapons: Capable of using any melee weapon with a blade, with bonuses to damage and a bonus to crit rate %. Can also use bladed/sharp ranged weapons (such as arrows and shurikens) with the same bonuses, but you will not be able to use the subjugation portion of abilities while equipped like this

-Subjugation: through the chaining/combination of certain skills, the Blade Kaiser can eventually gain mastery over any non-Blade Kaiser enemy's bladed weapon due to the power you unleash transferring to the enemy blade (sort of like a mind control effect but gaining control of the weapon rather than the person). Different skill use can cause different effects on the enemy such as preventing attack, slowing attack speed, decreasing hit chance, and at its strongest giving you complete (temporary) control of their weapon and causing any direct (single target DD) attacks to be turned back upon the attacker. The longer you chain skills together before activating the subjugation, the longer you will have control of the enemy blade.

-While armed with a melee blade: can switch to a ranged stance allowing you to use your normal melee skills at a distance by launching the blade at enemies and it returning to him due to their mastery of the blade. gradually increases in range allowing you to increase the range as you become more masterful getting a bigger jump on the enemy. While in the ranged stance you get a slight boost to move speed and dodge/evade, however incoming heals and total defense are slightly decreased. Using skills while in ranged stance also allows you to gain control of the enemy weapons as mentioned above (unlike normal ranged weapons)

-Able to temporarily turn bladed weapons in their inventory into sentient blades (like a temporary pet) with stats based on the item's own stats and skills/attack types based on specific category of weapon (eg: piercing weapons rely on ranged attacks similar to arrows, axe/halberd types using sweeping close to mid range AOE attacks, sword types focusing on single target melee damage). 1 item = 1 use, item destroyed after summoning

    Noobinator

Only offered in sub option f2p games.

Noobinator can use any weapon and any skill at will, is a non-progression class. When an f2p noob account is more than 14 days old, the Noobinator’s seekerdroid can pinpoint the exact location of the offending noob, lead the Noobinator to the target, and inflict a one shot one kill maneuver with any so desired weapon. Once the maneuver is executed, a list of handy animated emotes come into play, ranging from raspberries to tea bag loads-o-fun, sort of like a mini-game with finesse scoring. Once the f2p noob respawns again, the process can be repeated.

M59, UO, EQ1, WWIIOL, PS, EnB, SL, SWG. MoM, EQ2, AO, SB, CoH, LOTRO, WoW, DDO+ f2p's, Demo’s & indie alpha's.

So is the purpose of this exercise to come up with an alternative to the holy trinity of tank/healer/dps, or is it to make a class that doesn't fit into the warrior, priest, mage mold?

I'll make a samurai class and call it jedi knight =P, oops seems like that has already been done.

    Here's my class:

Jihadist (Male only, the females belong in a harem serving the males)

    Armor: Cloth, Civilians.

    Weapons: AK-47, RPG.

    Abilities: Killing infidels.

    Elder Variants: Martyr and Ayatollah.

The Martyr would gain more damage attacks and the use of Rockets, suicide vests, and airplanes (like Boeing 767).

The Ayattolah would gain offensive and defensive buffs such as "fatwa" (offensive buff, decreases an enemy unit's defenses) "call to jihad" (offensive buff, increases friendly damage on enemy targets)  and "hadith" (defensive buff healing friendly units).

This class puts Fun in Fundementalism!

    The Hero

You must first level all classes to max level then you get to make the choice to create the Hero or continue with normal play. If you choose the Hero all characters are deleted including all items and money. Essentially you return to zero. The Hero is born and you get to choose your skills as you level from any of the previous classes that were in game. The Hero also doubles in level as he goes up. For example Level 1 = 2, Level 5 = 10, Level 50 = 100 although only the normal level would show.

    Mana Reaver

Armor - Light rune inscribed armor, light to dodge melee, runes to protect from magic

    Weapons - Runed hand blades

Abilities - The Mana Reaver can use the rune hand blades to absorb magic from magic users and magic items.  The magic can then be reconstituted to attack or defend, since mana reavers aren't spell casters they can't cast spells outward only use the magic on themselves.  Fireball gives you fire blades, healing heals you ect.  The mana reaver is great for offense but can easliy become a tank depending on the spells absorbed.

All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified
