I gave FFXI three days, using in game chat, web sites and message boards to get it to play at an acceptable level for the key bindings. I must say it really sucked for the PC version.
Quest have a very deep Asian twist that I could not find any fun in playing. I must say that I would have given it a better chance it the PC version worked better.
Will FFXIV be made better for PC's and will quest be better for us in America ?

It didn't suck whatsoever for the pc version of FFXI. You just had to have a controller to get the controls right and basically you got used to it over time. It sucked for the consoles more TBH because if you went to certain areas you would get HUGE amounts of lag and you couldn't really type to anyone who didn't speak english without a USB keyboard. I'm assuming they are building FFXIV correctly for the ps3 though, so it probably won't get too much lag and it will still look nice. Honestly I'm expecting the PC version to still outdo it though since I like my MMO's on a pc.
Uhh, what do you mean by "Quests have a very deep Asian twist"? Do you mean its not something as stupid as "Hey, you, go kill 10 beetles!". I always felt that the quests in FFXI, which there weren't very many of, gave depth to the game world. They felt more like "quests" than chores.
I played this game for over 5 years, played it on the PC exclusively. First things first.... did you increase the graphics settings and the UI overlay resolution? Did you take the time to configure your camera settings to how you like it? These are all things you can do to alleviate any issues you may have with the game. It really seems like your whole beef with the game is the user interface, which I will agree does take some getting used to. It also helps alot to use a gamepad, a wired Xbox360 controller for the PC works wonders when you set it up corretly.
As for FFXIV, we don't know a whole lot, but I can tell you that chore like quests for quick exp have a high probability of NOT being in FFXIV. This is because FFXIV is using a level-less system that instead focuses on your skill level with various weapons (this is from what I have read, I may be misinformed). The user interface however looks alot more streamlined than in it's predecessor.
Sorry if I came across so negative Nickster29, as FF is an older mmo, and a lot of mmo's had their problems back then.
However I'm sure this day and age, mmo's should be plug and play, lets hope this one is !
SE's PC devs aren't as talented as most of the American ones are. Consoles are much more familiar platforms to work on.
That said, SE is still developing this game for PC first, PS3 second. So there will be improvements compared to the previous installment, which was a poor port from the PS2 version.
However, I wouldn't expect everything to be on the same level as with other MMO's when it comes to technics. It will look amazing, run smoothly, but some hick ups are likely to be present. It's up to you how important these things are to your enjoyment.
I can't comment on quests because I don't really know what you mean. I'd say American audience will find the (progression based) quests familiar, yet fresh.
I played FFXI exclusively on PC and never once felt like it was poorly done.
Yeah I really don't know what gives with people complaining about it, I guess they didn't know there are keyboard configuration options.
i'm gonna have to go with this one...i never had a problem with the PC controls. i imagine the ps2 controller being harder to use, didn't they have to scroll through the macros they wanted and click it? whereas on PC you just hit alt/ctrl 1-0 or whatever it was. navigating the menu wasnt a big deal either once you ran through it a few times.
Are you serious? That's why it sucked for pc. No keyboard/mouse functionality. I don't want to play a mmo with only 6 buttons.
Did you ever try opening the configuration menu and setting it up to play on keyboard+mouse like every other MMO? Worked just like big named games like WoW...
6 buttons? What kind of lousy setup are you running with only six buttons? Looking at my controller right now I see 12 buttons two analog sticks and a D-Pad. You don't even NEED all those buttons to play XI, this isn't a twitch-based MMO where you have to constantly stream together abilities to be effective in combat.
I think it is gonna run better on the PS3 then the PC because most PC out there now arnt even as good as the PS3s hardware!
Because it's inferior. No way around it.
I certainly didn't mind it but it could have still been -a lot- better. No matter what hardware you have you Will get laggy on certain situations, and the game is too CPU dependant which limits it's growth potential considerably.
I guess I just came to the wrong place to ask my question.
Instead of giving a straight answer to will the PC version of the new FFXIV play better, all you get here is" their was never a problem ". Yet their are many many players that had quit for this reason, and many web sites trying to give work around, add to the fact that people tell you game pads, and joy sticks work better. THEY DON'T TELL YOU THIS ON THE BOX !!
I'll admit that my OP was a little harsh, and I apologize for that. But no one even tried to answer the question to a MAJOR problem that FFXI has. And " yes " many people quit just like me, because of it !
I guess I'll just have to wait until after release to see if new players are pissed or not.
Well its being made for a console in mind. Maybe they will make it easier for pc with keybaord/m ouse i played xi only on p c mostly with keyboard and mouse but if you play on ps3 you will need a keyboard anyways so you can type. I think the problem was that some people didn't know about the compact mode in xi. I didn';t know about it for a long time but i got use to it then i used a gamepad a 20 dollar paddle looks like a ps2 paddle and it works so much better some flaws with it but oh well nothing wll be perfect in this area. The only thing i can say is either wait a bit or just buy it and play with an open mind knowing that their will be problems won't be amazingly smooth
I'm gonna have to say you did come to the wrong place seeing as how the majority of us HAVE NOT played the game due to the fact that.... it hasn't been released? You even pointed that out for us... In the begining the controls for XI did feel a little awkard to me, but it's something you get used to over time and if it's that big of an issue for you, as someone's already stated in another thread, you still have WoW.... I'm sure when the game is released, like all games, we'll get posts like this about how "I don't like this" or "I don't like that" and, well... that's life. You either accept it and get used to it, or you move on. What you don't do though, is ask questions that people don't have the answer too and then try and criticize them or the game...
But that's just it, the company didn't think there was a problem. So of course they didn't put it on the box. And they have the whole mindset of "if you have a problem with the game, adapt to it or go away." They didn't feel they had to pandor to the player base (like Blizzard) to get a successful game.
And to your question, I think the controls will be about the same for PC and PS3, but no one really knows because like most things from SE, almost every detail is a mystery until it's released.

Thanks Edeus,
I guess it takes a novice member to this message board to get a good answer.
Sorry you didn't feel the answers were very good. Like I said I played FFXI exclusively on PC. The PC version when I bought it came with a keyboard map. I never had any trouble reading the keyboard map and figuring out how to use the controls. I felt there was no learning curve. I played with the default mouse and keyboard controls until I got a laptop at which point I switched it to the wasd controls. The only thing I ever had a problem with as far as controls goes was I remember not knowing how to stack items and a simple in game question cleared that right up. As you have realized though we have no idea how the controls for PC will be in FFXIV. Hopefully they include a keyboard map like the game originally came with. I really don't care if they go with the normal PC controls or something different as long as it is customizable and they tell you want the default controls are.
