Mortal Online launch and my experince

ange10ange10 Member Posts: 307

Well, i've played though the beta and i can say that i thought at one point mortal online was the most bugged up game ever, but in like 1 week, they just patched and patched the game releasing a patch every 2-3 days and then launch game and by the only ploblem with the game was that they had 1 hour to fix full loot as it was not working, and guess what, they fixed it, in 1 hour lol.

so launch came and the developers decided on letting players who bought limited editions in first, seeing they payed more and that it will ease the server as players swarmed the login server.

heres the infomation pasted from the site.

16:00 GMT+2 Kelfatir (#1 Loot Bag) can log in.

16:30 GMT+2 The Limited Edition customers can log in.

16:45 GMT+2 The Boxed Edition customers can log in.

17:00 GMT+2 The Digital Download customers can log in.

so we was able to log in straight away and to tell you the truth mortal online was a total shocker for me, there was maybe 100-200 players in fab (one of the biggest cities so far in the game) and  i was getting told this was everywhere in the whole world of nave, cities was overflowing with players, so i met up with the rest of my guild, which is named Ghost division and we was just all chopping one tree, like 15 people was just chopping one tree lol, so then we decided to move our of fab and go to bakti as our guild hanged in bakti during the open beta.

so as we got close to fab, we was crashing, yes, some of us was crashing including me, there was that amount of players, some people was just crashing straight away when they logged in, but as you got away from the city it got better, the error was about not having enough virtual memory which could indicate that there is some form of memory leak with mortal online, but with over 100 players on screen  and i can tell you this, the fps was the same with no body on screen which is pretty amazing seeing that a game like darkfall a 100 hunderd players and the game will lag like fuck while with mortal online its as smooth as hell, i guess thats the mortal online unreal engine for you and network solution called atlas.

so then we moved to bakti and i decided to show some members who was not with us during our stay in bakti during open beta but was recruited when the game went into open beta only for members and so i decided to show some members IN THE PITCH BLACK with only one of us having a torch, that would be me, to take them to a area with brownwood trees, but of course things never go smooth at a launch and we ended up going in circles and ending up at bakti three times, which could be done to me and my bad naviagtion skills, so then i decided to follow the cliff next to the jungle but as i was doing that some members jumped down on the side of the cliff and was unable to get back up and a member called goon decides to tell the rest of us to jump down and join him, so us being twats go and do that, then im like guys get away from the edge, and some member decides to push me, (still have not found the guy who done it lol) and i fell for about 10 mins and in the vent channel all i can hear is everyoen laughing and then in ghost mode i look up and see my guild yes my guild doing a mass suicide off the cliff into the jungle.

One after the other and a splat we was all with each other in ghost mode and we talked and communicated with the chat to see each other at night time and made our way to the priest, oh btw this is the harsh part about mortal online, once we spawned we was in the JUNGLE, in thePITCH BLACK without a TORCH, well done we got our selves trapped in the jungle for 3 hours seeing that the jungle is very hard to get out of and the whole left side of the jungle there is no way out so we had to travel for like 2 hours straight to get out, and while dying to mobs, players getting lost,  and people drowning, yes one of our members actully was drowing at one point, so after about 2 hours we was able to get out of the jungle and back to bakti and in which this time i showed members around and then this was when the bad part of launch happened, but when compared to other launches , this one was still pretty smooth, the server starts going down and becoming more frequent as the night goes on.

But beta players do not really have a upper advantage in the sense of knowing the area, as i soon came to found out when i noticed nearly all mob spawns was moved around and changed, and this has made our town bakti, useless,so i have to find a new locationf or our guild.

this is mostly about it, from seeing 100 white players because the game was loading for a while so all players was just white bodies until the game loaded fully which took like 1-2 mins while loaded in to just a few crashes.

well done sv for a great launch, it just shows how great of a company you are, for being able to pull out and make it in time for the community.

they have one pleased fan here, and many others im sure, and im sure mortal online will go a long way and the question is, will you be along for the ride aswell?

so everyone post your experince of mortal online here, or talk about mine :)

That's probably because the only things they had to do is to is slap a "We are now open sign" on the game and make sure server holds... which they failed to do, it been really unstable today. And you call it a great launch?..

A company doesn't fail to ensure 1000 players can play at a certain point.. woah, great launch. Now compare that to WAR where they had to open new servers, enable few launch features, make sure people were able to claim their ingame rewards, and having approx 10 times more players logging into the game after beta.. (And yes, GOA failed WAR eu launch, thou US one was quite good).

SV is a small indi corp from Sweden and i find thier launch to be excellent considering that they had extremly low recources to comparing to the big boys, so yes it was a success from that point of view.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I can see where you are coming from, but on a business stand point (what a MMO is) it isn't a good launch at all.

A lot of people disagree.  You didn't even play on launch, right?

Based on what?  By "business", do you mean how they fared financially?  Please post links to your sources that prove it wasn't a good launch. If it's not financial, what do you mean and please qualify your statement..

The game has been crashing all day long. I haven't been able to play for more than 5 minutes. Thats why its not a good launch.

Thats just garbage, my whole guilds been on the whole time and we are having a blast, the server crashes probably every hour and it goes up within a minute, so overall a great launch. Better than I expected. A few problems, but at least we can play the whole time, unlike some other AAA MMO's

Something is wrong on your end, not the game. Been playing most of the time, few crashes but nothing major, comes back up in a few mins.

The server crashes every hour, and you call that successful?

Excuse me, but when does crashing at least once an hour qualify as a good launch?

Yeah they are an "Indi" company, but they are swimming in the deep end of the pool with all the AAA titles.  I left the "Be there on launch day" club long ago to avoid this kind of stuff.

Not trying to bash your point but War's launch, while not crashing every hour, had other...issues.

Mythic, atleast on the US side, had FAR too many servers at War's launch compared to actual players their first month.  They ended up shutting down many servers within the first month realizing that maybe they weren't going to be as successful as they thought they were (they were successful with just under 1 million players nonetheless).

Also, players experienced a very high amount of lag ESPECIALLY from mailboxes.  Why getting mail is so hard to code in, I do not know.

Further more, the collector items, (yeah I purchased the CE, shame on me) were causing errors with the player models and weren't showing up all together.  They ironed these out within the first week.

So you see, even a big name company like Mythic who already had DAOC under their belt and the financial backing of EA still had a slightly rocky launch.  But, many people say it was the smoothest launch in mmo history, maybe being beaten by Aion.

That's the thing, ALL launches have their issues.
