When I saw that this company didn't even have the ounce of brains to properly offer the game for sale to the US (no prices mentioned in USD) I was stopped from competing the purchase.  From what I am hearing now I saved myself from wasting X number of dollars on it.  It should be a red flag to everyone in the US when the company trying to do business with you can't even tell you how much they are charging you in dollars for their services.  4 years of development and they couldn't offer a US purchase applet?

... are you serious?  Conversion rates are easily available, and paying in USD presented ZERO problems for me when I did it.  Should they also list their product's price in Pesos?  Rupees?

Actually.. if you read the developer's post he says that they have "outside folks" manning the server, except for the times they have to go to bed.

Who cares if it's not SV's people?  I don't care if they have oompa loompas in the server room as long as the server comes back up as quickly as it has been.

You keep repeating this line. What are you trying to convey; I think I'm missing the significance of this somewhat obvious description. Am I to assume it's a thinly veiled "MO is dying" jab?

     1) No.. the point wasn't WHO is doing it, but that according to the post... there are times that even the "outside folks" go to bed.

I'm gonna stop you right there.  That post was false... I was in-game for a good chunk of those 6 hours.  Please don't believe everything you read on a public forum.

I'm gonna repeat that... the post your citing is false.  There was no 6 hour downtime... to the best of my knowledge there's never been a ONE hour downtime since launch that wasn't scheduled / announced in advance for patching / maintenance.  I read Seb's post as many times as you did, I did not interpret it as "there are hours at a time when no one's in the office".

Pesos? Rupees? No. For one of the most important MMO markets, YES.

    Hi there!

Ya, sorry the server are indeed up again and we do have a auto-reboot thing running on the servers but it's not flawless yet.

As most MMO-companies the large amount of people coming online caused some issues we hadn't seen before and therefore you get to suffer a bit and for that I'm truly sorry.

But as we all know, I hope, we are pretty much working around the clock on this but today and the coming weekend we just need sleep, that's all just a couple of days of sleep before we go at it again with new energy.

The last crashes on the server will be looked at come Monday and most likely fixed during the next week.

We have outside folks rebooting and checking up on the servers when we aren't at the office (not that many hours the last month ^^) but they also need to go to bed now and then.

We are small, we are indi but we are freakin focused on making this the best game you have ever played, so as you suggested I ask you all to be patient.

We could NEVER do this without you folks so please stay tuned and we will get this launch out of the starting blocks and up in the air for real during the coming weeks...thou some pilots might be killed due to crashing the coming days.

Note that I never once mentioned a "six hour downtime" nor anything from any post other than a developers which CLEARLY states that they have outside people rebooting the server (no big deal) until those people have to sleep.  Again.. none of this matters if the servers stay up over the weekend.  If they crash at 3AM server time (primetime US) over the weekend and stay down.. that will be an issue.  I simply referenced the post to correct your apparent mis-statement that "they have someone manning the server at all times" which is clearly not what the developers have stated.

He said that their support staff has to go to bed now and then.  That's it.  All I know is that thus far, the server's been maintained as though it were manned, so until that changes I don't complain.

There's no reason to get into an argument with funk lol his post history lays out clear as day he has an agenda

When someone creates an account and from post 1 aggresively goes after those that have an issue of any kind with a game it generally means 1 or 2 things. I will leave that to the individual to decide what those could be. In any case, waste of time arguing with someone with an agenda so save your self some typing lol.

You're questioning my agenda?  I'm on the Mortal Online forums, and I like Mortal Online.  That's pretty clear cut.  How is that a bigger issue to you than the people that clearly HATE Mortal Online, but still make hundred of posts on the forum?

I love how the people that actually like the game are considered trolls around here.

I said it is evident you have an agenda, I made no suggestions as to what it might be. And if you like a game or don't it doesn't really matter, you're not a troll unless you act like one and I never said you were. But with statements like "(Edited before someone could report me)" and with how aggressive you come off at times it certainly begs the question.

What worries me is the line above what you highlighted:

The last crashes on the server will be looked at come Monday and most likely fixed during the next week.

I know whey they aren't promising. . but. . man.   I am willing to pay and play in that environment but I can't imagine a lot of people will.

Yes.. I also find it odd that the company would take off the weekend after they launched, but that's a business decision.  Personally I would have had my team rested up before launch but it's not my company.

This is a review from a very experienced MMO player...not going to give his name or his guild but here it is, moderators this is just a review, so please dont ban me, again lol

happily a friend of mine who is disgusted with the game let me use his account to take a look so i ended up retaining my 50 dollars.

1> combat is entirely clunky and unintuitive.

2> the game world is completely and utterly empty, which given the fact that it is the smallest game world i have ever seen in 15 years of playing these games is simply amazing.

3> there are a grand total of ten different mobs, this includes generic ones like rabbits and weasels. there are only a few dozen spawns of these mobs scattered around the world, everything else is a barren lunarscape of nothingness.

4> skillbook system is nothing but a grindy annoyance designed to keep the obsessive compulsive types playing past their free 30 days, for the rest of us it pisses us off. when you figure in the fact that after day one they increased the cost for these books from 5x to 50x it pisses us off even more.

5> there is absolutely nothing to do in the game other than harvest to grind out your stats, make some basic gear and go beat on some poorly drawn character model with his cock flopping around. where is the content and motivation to play?

6> the game is unstable, which is a blessing in disguise given the fact that the only exciting part of the game is crashing and seeing whether or not you get a blue screen before logging back in again.

     back to darkfall i go.

It is a product, and not a service.  Mortal Online is a product.  Product, and service are two different thing.

They are selling both a product and a service.

What service are they selling?  Oh, that right none.  SV is selling a game which is a product.  You buy the game, then you pay a monthly fee if you choose to play the game.  If you are talking about the monthly as a service.  It is not a service, but what it is.  It is the cost of the product.  For the SV to pay their cost.  Learn the difference.

Incorrect my friend.  They are selling both a product and a service.  This is why you agree to an EULA and a TOS...

Why do you think it's called "Terms of Service"?

What service are they selling?  Oh, that right none.  SV is selling a game which is a product.  You buy the game, then you pay a monthly fee if you choose to play the game.  If you are talking about the monthly as a service.  It is not a service, but what it is.  It is the cost of the product.  For the SV to pay their cost.  Learn the difference.

Incorrect my friend.  They are selling both a product and a service.  This is why you agree to an EULA and a TOS...

Why do you think it's called "Terms of Service"?

    image

The "Terms of Service" is a standard legal document that companies that sell ether product, or services.  I will name a few services there are: Maid, Mechanic, Government, Prostitution, etc..  A few products: Bread, Milk, Video Games, a House, automobles, etc..  That is why I said learn the difference.  Just because the word service is in the title of a document does not make it a service.image

     LOL..

It's not just a word in a document..  it describes what the terms are for.  It's the Terms to use their Service...

I will say it one last time.  They are selling both a product and a service.  Silly to argue.   If you doubt feel free to ask SV :-)

    [Mod Edit]

Can mods STOP editing posts please. What is wrong with say Nuclear Shit Powered Sandwich? Who does it offend? Does it contain any rude words?

MO is just nothing like the game the trailers a year ago that apparantly showed "in game footage" was. It was meant mop up after Darkfall failed to give local banking and a good economy. However it is just a very very poorly crafted Mod pack for the Unreal engine.

    What service are they providing?

    From Wiki:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terms_of_service

    "Video Games

As video games move online, many of them are also adopting a terms of service, separate from the End User License Agreement required to utilize the client software. These Terms of Service generally specify behaviors that are disallowed within the video game's virtual world, generally to prevent a player from disrupting another player's game experience. For example, many online games disallow the use of racist speech through communication channels provided by the game. Many MMORPGs also disallow the trading of in-game items for "real world" money."image

    Again...

SV is providing both a product AND a service.

PS.. the very first sentence from the link you provided:

Terms of service (abbreviated as "ToS" or "TOS")[1] are rules by which one must agree to abide by in order to use a service

I don't think it could be much clearer than that......

A subscription is a service, they host servers and pay bandwidth fees with that money.

You'd have to be daft to think otherwise. Even if the 'customer service' is lacking, there are monthly upkeeps on both the ends of the user-developer spectrum, which denotes that *someone* is paying for a service. Usually it's you paying the developers, who pay the server hosts. In fact, SV prolly pays a lot of money for support and license over the UL3 engine, which you have a stake in financing as a player. That's a service in itself.

What worries me is the line above what you highlighted:

I know whey they aren't promising. . but. . man.   I am willing to pay and play in that environment but I can't imagine a lot of people will.

judging by today I am begining to wonder if they used saturday and sunday to pack their bags and run with money they have made so far knowing no more money and investors after them image

and I told everyone it was a trapped and then bought to image
