I was reading this review someone mentioned on this forum earlier http://www.glimpsedog.com/content/107-mortal-online-review.html, and part of it refers to the crafting system in MO, stating
"Crafting in Mortal Online is certainly a lot more in depth than that found in other recent MMOs. It is possible to create literally thousands of unique weapons using many different resource items which can be farmed around the world of Nave. Another positive aspect of the crafting system is that you can make an item several different ways. For instance, you could give an axe an oak handle and a steel frame or use totally different resources. This allows for a lot of experimentation and trying lots of different combinations to find the perfect weapon will certainly keep the crafter type character busy for a long long time."
Sounds like it is kind of going the SWG route with crafting, something I have been waiting for another mmo to do for a long time. I haven't actually played the game yet so I wanted to know from anyone who has knowledge of it or is actually in the game. Is this an accurate assumption?

Nothing like SWG's crafting system bra. R.I.P SWG.
Like everything else out there it is nothing compared to SWGs crafting
Hey, I dunno about SWG's crafting system, but I'll try to describe MO's as much as I can (by copy and pasting something I wrote in another thread)
when it comes to weapons there's a lot of stats, but they're not revealed to you directly. Most of the properties of a weapon are derived from these things:
Let's take a 1 handed sword;
-type of blade and handle the crafter uses (there's several types of each)
- the materials used to create the blade/handle (you can actually make wooden swords, though it's not recomended... More popular choices include various types of teeth, bone, and obviously different metals)
- the skill of the crafter for whatever type of weapon/handle is being made.
There's not actually a "best weapon", since a sword made with a heavy metal may do a lot of damage, but it will also take longer to swing and drain A LOT more stamina per swing. Long story short, every material has different properties that effect each piece (weapons, armor, shields, houses (though the housing system is minimal at this point)).
I've done a bit of armor crafting; the process isn't exactly the same, but the principle is. There's fewer types of armor to make, but you can also decide the density/amount of mats you want to use, thus making it more durable/heavy, or lighter/cheaper.
MOs crafting sure have a hell lot of options, sadly it lacks depth. It's just about finding best combination and you are good to go (for materials). In many cases one weapon is more useful vs one type of armor then another, however there are no special attributes to weapons like ability to deal small fire damage or being better vs unholy creatures, which is a shame.
The resouce collection is run of the mill and not a stitch on SWG (but what is) the crafting itself is also nothing special, not that sWG actual crafting mechanic was great but the factories etc made it that much more special when added to the world.
The stand out of MO crafting is the decent enough versatility of the items due to the nonstatic nature of resource requirments.
