I played some in beta, so I'm enjoying the fact that I'm finally playing my first pernament character.

Beyond that, I'm having fun with a lot of the other people in the game.  For a FFA PvP game, it hasn't been a full-on gankfest so far.  While I'm sure there will be plenty of ganking in the game over time, it's hasn't been bad.  The community seems pretty good up to this point.

I'm in Vadda, and having fun exploring the area.  I'm going to be working on my crafting, which is something I rarely focus on in most other games.  The crafting system in MO is really great.  I could also use some better armor and weapons.

I also need to tame a horse, improve my fighting skills, and work on a house....

    Sheesh, I'd better get busy.

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit right now, but I know that SV still has a lot of work to do to make this game enjoyable in the long term.  They seem to be going in the right direction, though.

This, almost exactly (minus the vadda part... I dunno why, I always avoided that town... maybe cuz  I always get lost going there)

There are very limited housing plots in the game, and unless you actually find one and raise it quickly, you stand the chance of getting ran off the site and having it smashed down once PvP is in full swing. The only reason you need a house is for the extra storage and future features (like maybe shops, horse storage, etc), and a bank covers it's main use right now. The other reason is because you need a house built to get a guild started, and that's usually what's needed to protect a place.

So my recommendation, find a guild and convince them to let you have a spot.

If they haven't claimed entire tracts of placeable housing spots, then they might plan to eventually. I am sure all the best ones around Meduli are taken though, and those stand the best chance of playing solo and keeping a structure up (that I've seen).

If you count not being able to stay logged in and your character keeps getting deleted somehow, yeah I am having a lot of fun.

I started my first character about four hours ago and was repeatedly ganked right at the starting area about 20 times. I finally gave up and started walking as a ghost trying to find another town... but I kept getting stuck unable to get past these damned impassable mountains that appear to be everywhere in the game...

So then I started a new character and picked Fabernum instead... attempted to log in and waited 30 minutes before actually spawning.

I am really hoping I will enjoy the game at some point. Its probably my fault for trying to play it at launch. MMOs are usually terribly unstable right at the beginning.

Worst place you could put up a poll.  These forums are notoriuos for hating on any and every new game that comes along; especially pvp sandbox ones.

    I disagree.

This is my perspective of the Love / Hate battle lines.

If the  Blind Love side is wrong = Deep disapointment in the game

If the Hate side is wrong = Pleasant suprise!

Plus the Hate side will generally list the flaws / faults on their own, whereas, one must drag these from the Love side, if they will give them up at all.

    My opinion ^^

It crashes all the time so no, I'm not having fun.

  • StoyStoy Member Posts: 11

Really really bad, constantly ganked by groups of people at all the starting areas, how do they expect this game to survive if all the new people are smashed seconds after they log in, people will get tired and quit.

The game is NOT a single player game, if you don't have friends that play then there is not much hope for you.

wish i hadn;t wasted my money, but i'll try to percivere.

  • ThunderousThunderous Member Posts: 1,152

You're always going to have gankers in these types of games.  I wouldn't quit yet, it will work itself out.

No, I am not having fun and am sick and tired of wannabe game designers thinking they can deliver an mmo with their first ever project. The noobs should start small, actually get experience finishing a simpler project and THEN try an mmo.

They really need to note that the one starting option there are no guards.

I say it's the worst place because people who don't play will vote.

And this site isn't exactly known for faustering support for the genre.  People tend to come here just to hate.

Or put it another way, this poll has as many votes as the one on the official forums, possibly more.  I'd have to check.  And no one has posted a link on the official forums to this poll.

The poll in this thread is for this thread.  I voted it in it.  It has NOTHING to do with the one on the official forums.  Voting here doesn't effect the one there, and vice versa.

No idea how you get that this poll here comes from the one on the official forums.  That's not possible.  These two sites have nothing to do with each other, and you can't link polls on this site to polls on another.

AoC,WAR,StarTrek to name a few that have gaming experince and still they launched bugged, half working games so I fail to see your point.

Are there patrolling guards that act on their own if there are gankers about harrassing new players?  If not, there should be.  If towns aren't safe, economy isn't safe.  I thought that was a major feature in this game.

And do you still have to yell gaurds as if they don't have eyes or ears for themselves?

The guards insta-gank as it is when you say "guards".  That's much safer than guards that may or may not be at any given place.  (Travelling guards are planned, but they will make towns less safe... if that doesn't appeal to you, I dunno what to tell ya).

You thought roaming guards was a major feature of this game?

Guards don't exist unless you yell for them. Then an avatar of death (Lictor) instantly spawns near you and kills a random black/red flagged player (not necessarilly the guy you called them on.. just the closest one when they appear).  If there are no black/red flagged players you get warned.  If this happens a few times the avatar of death kills you.

Yeah, maybe I got that mixed up with the city life thing?  I don't know.  I just figured it would make the town feel more safe if actual guards were walking around and acted as enforcers, working alongside the avatar of death.. which is just silly.  In UO, id you attacked anyone in town, you were instantly killed.  The only way you could be in town as a criminal is if you commited a crime outside of town or you were a theif that failed their steal check.  That's the only times you had to call guards, and it helped the economy immensly since the cities were more or less safe areas.

I feel that there needs to be a stiff penalty for crimes in cities in addition to the murder count system.

To be honest, there's not really any crimes in the (guarded) city except for thievery... It's near impossible to kill anyone in the city, since ANYONE can call guards as soon as you take a swing (or have a grey/red flag for any reason).  To actually kill someone in a city requires that they be AFK and totally isolated, and even then the killer probably shouldn't hang around with that grey flag for long.

I agree that thieving should involve more risk (personally  I advocate a local "criminal count" that works like a murder count, but whatever), though the changes henrik mentioned will help the situation in general, I guess.  I actually like that players have to call guards (though having a "guard" hotkey in-game would be even better), I like that even NPC-controlled 'justice' needs SOME sort of player intervention... but that's just me, and I have a feeling it won't stay that way for too much longer.

Yeah, a guard hotkey would be nice.  Having to stop what you're doing and type it out is annoying, it even was in UO.  Just clicking a hotkey to /yell guards or whatever the command is would be a step in the right direction.
