Well, now WAR is doing well in EU and has plenty of players, a solid community and helpful people. Right. T2 and T3 are somewhat sublated by the game mechanics but they are not empty at all.
Game is dying? No. LoTRo and DDO has less subs and they are not to die. AOC has a lesser population and it's not going to die. EQ2 is in a simmilar situation and is mirth living.
Tier 1 is mostly full of people that are abusing the free trial by staying at level 10 with max PvP gear for that tier and ganking noobs that come along. So I don't think that can really be a plus of what your going to see.
Tiers 2 and 3 are dead. There is little argument there so once you have survived the horror of tweakers in tier 1 pvp you get stuck with little or no RvR in these tiers. Its alright if your plan is to ignore the RvR and just focus on the PvE element though it does make any of the PQ's that aren't on easy setting a little difficult.
Tier 4 does have some people but ultimately the numbers are droping. Though you can't blame them for leaving, many have seen balancing issues unaddressed for months or the game changing to focus on the 8 people that demand more RvR. And if you need a good idea how the game is doing all you have to do is look at the lay offs of late. Just the last round of lay offs in the life span of the game. Which is a real shame cause WAR could have been great and Warhammer 40K hopefully stil will. But sadly rather than invest in the game and add a 3rd faction it has been gutted until there is little hope that it will come back. People talk of WoW offering more content in a free patch than AoC offered in a paid expansion. I think either will be far more we see from WAR in the future unless EA put some funds back into the game which they are unlikely to do.
Been dead for along time .. just takes some folks longer to figure it out than others... Visit there official forums .. you will come to your own conclusions soon enough........

Try WAR, because doomsayers are doomed.
Err both LOTRO and DDO have far more SUBs than WAR does and last time I heard AOC was recovering and has 20-25% more subs than WAR.

What do you mean by "dying", losing subs? if that's the case then even WoW is dying! xD
I should admit about LoTRo and DDO as they became F2P, and AOC under the Godslayer Expansion returning effect, but they are not far differing from WAR on a wide frame of accounting success. Just they are not giants, but these normal games are still alive, being giants or not, and they will stay alive for long. Maybe I result a bit guileless in deeming just like this, but I love the IP and have played a lot the game. It's not for my joy that WAR in doubt befell, but I hope that at least my words take someone more into the grim WAR world and perchance it cames to be a consolidated game again.
T4 LAke activity is at an all time low .. some servers reporting next to none for weeks now...Whispers of merging the last 4 US servers into one ............
That is Dying ... and a real shame it is...........These Devs literally plunged nail after nail into there own coffins with each patch/update ...

Look, don't get me wrong, i dont think the game is doing great by any means...
Could the game use another merge? No idea, but the server i play on is ok... others? not a clue, don't play on em.
But where are these reports of no t4 activity for weeks?
Whispers of mergering 4 servers into one, where? from whom?
I play the game occasionally, and i can always find t4 action..

The parrot is dead.
QFT, devs were actually removing parts (removing Forts, capping Fort Zones etc...) of the game so that the low population could PvP more actively, it's far from pouring in new content.
The company behind the game made it pretty clear, they are not going to do anything with this title, they are just maintaining the game and if enough players stay and pay to justify operation more power.

Yes the game had great potential. I last played it for a couple of months over the winter. SC's popped fast enough but the PVE part of the game was a wasteland. Most just stood around in the capitol cities waiting for an SC. Yes its dead and I too wish it were different as the game has some cool features.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
I quit WoW a few months ago, and sold my account so unfortunately I can't go back now, even though I'm regretting selling it
Anyway, it seems the next best thing (gameplay/graphics wise etc) is Warhammer Online. Warhammer Online looks really fun from what I've seen on Youtube and having played the endless trial for a few hours today, but it seems everywhere I go people are saying "it's dead, it's like a ghost town, stear clear!!" etc.
I'm just wondering how true this actually is to be honest. When I start a new MMO I like to go into it with the mindset that I'll be playing it for at least a year or so, and investing a lot of time into it, so I just wanted to know whether it IS infact dead/dying and a ghost town, before I purchase & subscribe to the game.
I know some people will think "well if you enjoy it, what's the problem?" but that's the thing, whilst I may enjoy it, that enjoyment will only last so long if I hardly ever see anybody ingame and the population is constantly on the decline.
So in all honesty, is the game dead/dying or is it worth playing?
Thank you.
When the producer dujour Carrie G (who has zero clue about the industry despite her supossed ten years in it) cut the throat of the PVE game (which was already in shambles) and killed any hope of ressurecting the hopelessly broken crafting in lieu of "Killing People in the face" PVP she basically put a dying MMO out of it's misery.
EA is going to shut it down later this year I know that for a fact, the entire team is being retasked and the dead weight is being laid off, GW is quietly taking the license to a new company I have i on good authority that THQ will get that as well as they are working on a yet unannounced WHF RTS similar to Dawn of War. But don't expect it till 2015 way after the fail of WAR has been forgotten
And no links no way to prove any of this I just know folks at GW who like to talk after a couple pints.
Funny that they're going to close it down when there's an expansion coming out. It sure does make sense to me, oh wait. Perhaps you were the one that had a few too many pints (insert smiley here).

And could you post a link to Mythic and EA announcing this expansion?
If they were serious about trying to save WAR mythic/EA would have created 3-4 progression raids and a real crafting system.
That's what all the wow players thought WAR was missing. it wasnt enough like WoW so they left.
You will never, ever capture the wow player base without a solid raid game.
WAR is a much better pvp game than WoW, if it was as good pve wise it would have over a million subs right now.
I don't think it's just the raiding thing that calls them back. It's that WoW is a much more all-round MMO. In WoW you have options. You can most of the time do different things depending on what you want to do. For WAR, you're mostly "stuck" with PvP. And depending on where the campaign is at the time or what you want to do that can leave you with very few options a lot of the time.

In Wars defense. It does have a very good questing system. the tome of knowledge is well done. the classes are pretty awesome and the PVP is quite good. If the game had a crafting system similar to wow and leveling dungeons, endgame raiding I don't think people would have left in droves.
You're right Wow offers more, its a more well rounded experience but if mythic added in a real raid game, more dungeons while leveling and a crafting system the level of wow the game would have been just as well rounded and wouldn't be failing like it is.
Every Tier was a step closer to the final boredom this game is. I realised WAR was dead before the free month. It always had issues with population and many of us don't like to be PvPing all the time at end-game. What else is to do?Go back to WoW I guess.

Dunno, if the folks at GW think that they should stick to more PvE and that too much PvP is the reason WAR failed... then WH40K is already dead in the water and they should stick to their pints...
You don't play WH or WH40K to toy with yourself. You collect the figures and whatnots in order to take it out against other living players.
WAR failed because the PvP was lackluster and they didn't fully deliver on their promises in that regard. PvE failings are just icing on that shitty cake.
Imo Carrie is doing a really good job with her emphasis on PvP and RvR, as it should have been from the start. Kudos to her to be doing it with very limited resources, especially considering what crap we saw coming out from the last dev generation (LoTD anyone? Just consider what Carrie would have done with those resources) I see players coming back and I see WAR finally winning a recognizable place for itself in the mmo ecology. All the old-time players will testify that the game's been improving since the old PvE "Trials of Atlantis" fart Mark Jacobs left... there's less things being done but they finally are in the spirit of the IP and the game. When you say WAR you don't think "WoW wannabie" anymore - you think "PvP mmo with 0 downtime." It may be a niche but imo it's a quite substantial niche that I'm happy to subscribe to.

I play the game occasionally, and i can always find t4 action..
some magic formula I found was take xfire # and multiply by 10 for the sub #. Best time to check is during weekend when most ppl log on to play.
In short:
You'll find players to play with on pretty much all servers.
There has been heavy server merging in the past 18 months.
The game has no announced expansions.
The game has cruel class and faction imbalances mainly due to itemization and a originally flawed RVR system (two factions)
--> You'll have fun. Don't expect this game to grow and shine. It will most likely stay what it is now, with the people that populate it now.
