AoC is my new retreat after Vanguard. I missed PvP and came here to gank people hardcore.
Last time I played was in 2008 when game ran horribly, was full of bags and stupid itemization. Its much more enjoyable now and Khitai looks beautiful. Love involving quests, graphics, music, refresing combat system. But there is yet plenty to fix: unbalanced classes, useless AAs, lack of discription, lagspikes...
Alot of it for me is the combat. Once you do AoC combat it's hard to play any other MMORPG as they feel slow boring and tedious. Basically in my book, if you can play a game with you eyes closed and still succeed, then it's a crappy game. Wow is a perfect example of this, same with EQ2. Both of these games you could easily fight and win and level up completely blindfolded. It doesn't really matter what buttons you push as long as you push something you will win against any mob your level. Most classes in wow you only really need 3 buttons and your set. Conans combat takes paying attention and alot more interactivity than other games.
The graphics are also great. Wish they had player housing for a little more depth and something to mess around in as that was enjoyable in EQ2 to sometimes not worry about fighting and just go try and buld something cool in your house.
1) Tier 3 raids. It helps that my guild can actually get past the first few bosses. It would have said T2 raids a while back, but they are all on farm status now and, while still enjoyable, don't give me the warm fuzzies like T3 does now.
2) The guild I am in. Good bunch of people. Definitely a major reason why I'm still alive-n-kickin in Conan.
3) I can buy 60-day time cards are the local electronics shop for $15 bucks. Hey - money talks!
4) The new AAS skillsfeats and 6mans in the Xpack.
5) Best sound & graphics out of any MMO that I have personally played.
6) Nothing better has come along that would pull me away from Conan. Thats not to say other MMOs don't intrigue me at the moment, just none of them that stands up and says "You will like this more than Conan."

Yea the combat is keeping me on my toes! I am questing down in the Tarantia sewers and the mobs are right at my level. I can beat them, but I have to be careful about how many I engage at once, and how many I take on without resting. Focusing on the enemy's defense is critical, and striking when their defense is down is the path to victory. The game will allow a few blunders, miss strokes or what have you, but not very many. If you find yourself on the mat it is probably because of missed opportunities; striking the opponent while his defense was up a few too many times, missing those open shots when you had the chance.
Another cool part of the combat are the death animations. Some peeps say it gets tiresome watching them after a while. Not me! I am lvl 35 and I still think they are over the top cool. One reason why I don't tire of them is because they don't play that often. They seem to randomly pop up once in a while. The other reason is they seem to change as you progress through the game. I never knew there were so many different ways to slice a baddie up with a sword! I have played a few hack and slash games, but nothing quite like this. Age of Conan is the Blood Meridian of MMO's!
I play it mainly since I love the atmosphere and it's numerous small (or larger) storylines. This richness in storytelling adds an layer to the MMO other than the classic 'item reward' system to keep me playing - for once I enjoy doing quests to read something the NPCs tell me.

This game has less features and content than other mmos, community isnt all that great atleast on fury it isnt.
Class balance isn't great.
Quite laggy at times
But for some reason i can play this near to 24/7.
The combat system and the theme of the game are so cool that I dont even care about the negative points.
Kind of makes the bad community a +ve factor, can meet that annoying prick somewhere in the world and rip his head off with a fatality.
Well I have to disagree on some points.
The content has less than some mmos, but more than others. Ymir's Pass was added as a free patch, a complete 55-65 zone including (probably) the best 6 man instance in the game. Iron Tower was also added later on.
The community on Wiccana is pretty good. Sure there are always going to be trolls and jerks in global but it's not nearly as bad as WoW. Probably 9 times out of 10 if you ask a question you'll get a valid helpful reply.
Yes the combat system is fantastic. Say what you want about other points of AoC, but Funcom really did the combat well. The whole combo/fatality system sure makes combat fun.

I have to disagree and do a 180 on that and say it is one of the most fully loaded MMO's out there. The varaition in landscapes and they are huge! and it is loaded with a lot of content besides just questing ,dungeons and raiding. The vila's are a nice example off additional content and some content can only be accesed if the guild has enough rennown wich small guilds or solo players never see.Next to WoW AoC is about just as packed and varied.
Necromancy ---- this thread was as dead as AoC is. If that is possible. It's getting "deader" too. Now that all major guilds have left on their former largest server, and they run around with a new banstick. Yes a brand new banstick that permanently bans people who speak negatively about Funcom on their forums. Worst company in the business.
Maybe that applies to the PvP server you're coming from, not so much to the PvE server.
Banstick on forums, hmm, I don't know, I didn't see that much difference. Only period when infractions and bans seem to run rampant was when Tahitoa went rampant in her godmod mode, after she left things became more sensible.
About worst company ever: they provided a game you've been happily playing for 1-2 years and now because they broke your toy in your eyes they've suddenly become "the worst company ever"? A bit overtly emotional, don't you think? Or maybe it's that 'never forget, never forgive, never surrender' conflict seeking mentality that so many pure PvP'ers seem to nourish.
Anyway, you're entitled to your own opinion of course, if you want to hate a company to eternity for the slights they've committed to 'your' game, then that's your free choice. Personally, I don't give a damn about a company if the game they deliver is enjoyable to me. And if it's not or not anymore, I move on. Some game companies have extra credit to me bc of their trackrecord, like Bioware and Blizzard - as it used to be years ago, not the current Blizzard - but when it comes to most game companies I simply don't care enough for their wrongs or rights, I judge things on a game to game base.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
"Or maybe it's that 'never forget, never forgive, never surrender' conflict seeking mentality that so many pure PvP'ers seem to nourish."
Ha! that does sum up a lot of the pvp attitude I have encountered. Angry, uptight, plotting revenge in the chat channel. They talk about care bears but themselves run in packs so they will be safe while looking for some lower level or half wounded player to pounce on. I have seen very little bravado in my admittedly limited PvP experience in either Conan or WoW.

Sounds like you have had your arse handed to you multiple times, and have quite the same attutude to pvpers as we have to Funcom. Fair enough. I can understand that.
When major guilds disband because the lies, false and broken promises finally defeated them. And the remnants of those guilds reform with names such as [Replace the Game Director] and [Silirrion sucks pve cock]. Something is awry. But it's ok. It really is. Because now what people like myself have been saying for well over a year looks quite prophetic.
Silirrion had a master plan. That was to push the game from pvp to pve. Irrespective of what the pvp crowd wanted. It didn't matter. Quite simply because they needed to get rid of us. It took him from his first day in charge until now, but he finally succeeded.
Personally I am not playing the game because it is an MMO. In fact I am playing AoC in spite of the fact that it is an MMO. I started this game up because I really wanted to play a Conan game, and AoC seems like the best one out right now.
I haven't been playing very long. I started with the free trial and built up 3 or 4 characters before settling on my Conqueror. I subscribed, entered the main game, and right now he is lvl 24.
I am not really a huge MMO buff, which makes me something of an anomaly around here, but I did play WoW for a few months around launch time. Until starting up AoC that was the first and last time I played any MMO.
The appeal for me is playing in the Conan universe. I really wanted to play a game based on Howard's work and this is the one I picked. The more AoC captures the Conan aura the more I will enjoy playing it. Of course the game is an MMO first and foremost, so that means grouping, questing, PvPing, dungeon crawling, grinding and all the rest, but the main draw for me is playing in Hyboria.
Along with playing AoC I am reading Howard's Conan stories, really getting into the lore. I have The Bloody Crown of Conan which is a collection of 3 original stories. I am big into Conan right now, reading the books and playing AoC!
I don't play AOC but I'm not here to bash it just wondering if they ever launched the console Conan game that was supposed to come for the PS3 and 360 if so anyone know if it was any good?
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
No console rendition of AoC, the planned work never made it. I really don't think consoles are up to the task. If you want a Conan game to play this MMO is the best. It does a good job of being faithful to the Conan lore, REH stories, and I have even seen reference to the art work of the great Frank Frazetta. But you'll need a pretty beefy rig to max out the video options.
Yes AOC is one of the best games out ther and am sticking to it tbh it's the only game made me go lvl cap after wow and i did play alot after wow when it got so boring,
the Details of AOC the Lore ,
i can semply feel the world out ther it dosn't feel to be just some Colorfull fantasy world on my screen i can feel it ,
the combat system is just amazing ,
it is hard and chalnging MMO ,
it needs using ur brain when u build ur char ,
PVP is very nice all classes can Hide and that's very nice imo

This is probably true to an extent, and it's the reason why I play AoC. PvE is what sells MMO subs, and is what the genre is founded on. PvP is always a buggy, incoherent mess, and whenever developers spend time or resources on it, it mucks with the rest of the game in a negative fashion. Also, the PvP crowd (in general, not you specifically) are a bunch of demanding asshats who couldn't care less how their playstyle affects the larger game. They're also an extreme minority, so devoting expensive dev resources to them makes little financial sense for most games.
There have been a few exceptions over the years, but by and large, if you want to PvP, you shouldn't be playing MMOs.

7) It goes together with beer sooooo wonderfully!
