I want an epic PvE experience, adrenaline-filled on the edge of your seat PvE, or PvP for that matter. I want to actually feel a rush in a game again, so recommendations anyone?
Recently I've played LotRO, EQ2, AoC and the trial of Aion.
LotRO felt really slow and I level'd to around 35, it was simply a borefest to me, the lore was great but the combat was horrible.
EQ2, I've played it off and on awhile, I've thought about re-subbing as I hear the endgame is good, but I'm only 50 and right now I just feel like I'm moving through molasses.
AoC has been very immersing but I'm not quite sure where to go or what to do after Tortage, I hear the starting zone is the most complete part of AoC, I'm just not sure though.
Aion was very boring at first but then it started to pick up (after I switched from Assassin to Sorc) until I got the message that I ran out of my playtime.... I also hear there's little at the endgame, so I'm a bit worried about surviving the grind only to find nothing at the end.....
Again my biggest focus is some epic/amazing PvE content If I can find a similar exciting rush through a game's PvP I'm down to try it out, just lay down your thoughts and I'll bog through 'em!
Thanks so much,
Beo

amazing pve content.what content ? solo , group , raid ?
because funcom released recently their aoc expansion i ll say go for aoc.
very good solo content till lvl 80 and very good low lvl dungeons.
if u re 80 u can raid on most server 24/7 t1 and t2 raid instances , which are very fun if u dont farmed them the last 2 years.
or go into some of the newer khitai ( expansion ) instances , best graphics at this time !

To clarify, I mean mostly group/raid content, some solo stuff is fine, if it's decent, but I'd prefer to keep with grouping and raiding. How is AoCs endgame content? Is there a barrier to begin raiding or is it hit 80 and jump right in? Just wondering Also how much is there, will I be raiding one hour and then done for the week or will I have some variety?
Sorry for all the questions, and again thanks for the help,
Beo

t1 and t2 raiding ist hit 80 and jump in.
t1 has 3 instances , yak , vistrix , need only 15 min per kill killyki instance has 2 bosses the complete istances is done in 1-1-5 hours.
t2 has 3 wings every wing needs 2-2.5 hours u can do every wing with enother raid group.
t3 and t4 need a raid guild or a raidcom.
khitai instances need some equip espacially if u are tank or dps.
but theres some good crafted gear out there
so whats the endgame about ?
random raiding t1 & t2 instances , doing classic instances , get some equip and do expansion instances , grind faction for uber equip and prestige mounts, get a guild , do some minigame pvp , do some bori pvp ( revamp with next patch ) , craft some items, do tones of quests and entertaining questlines or the boring repatable ones for the faction grind ^^

The only things I can think of that can be considered as those above, would be Vanguard, AC1, and EQ1. Both are amazing and I recommend both, but to be honest the real game you're looking for has been killed by no other than... WoW....
Though if you do decide to join Vanguard, I recommend the PvP server. It is more fun in my opinion and the only way you can enjoy the amazing PvP, and the amazing PvE they offer.
Also EQ2's new patch released battlegrounds for us that were stuck on a PvE server. I just recently subbed and it is looking pretty good, although they have made traveling a lot easier, which bugs me. They also took away the starter island...
May you rest in peace Asheron's Call 2
I also recommend Age of Conan. I recently returned (last time played in release days) and having a blast. They added alot of new content, quests are very well written and combat system one of the best in genre. Not to mention it has the best graphics among all online games.
Vanguard also offers high quality PvE experience and it has huge immersive open world without instances.
To decide between them you must think about what setting you'd like? Phantasy with elves and orcs or brutal real world with gore and nudity
AoC is a bad game if you ask me, if you don't have a macro keyboard/mouse good luck staying in competitive PvP, also HOPEFULLY they fixed it, but if not. DON'T join Battlegrounds until around 30+, under that you will just run into ranger twinks that 1 shot.
The fact that the poster above mentioned "Nudity" is why the game is still active IMO, too many underaged players are going crazy over the fact that they can go topless. You will just see players running around topless etc...
Still my personal opinion would be VG.
I am loving AoC and not due to the nudity lol. The new expansion is just amazing, plenty of group and solo content. Some say it is a grind but with the multiple 6 man dungeons I haven't felt the grind once. The raids are also still fun, PvP should be getting a huge update soon, along with the ranger class revamp to make it more versatile.
So all in all i do not know how anyone could go wrong with AoC atm.
i like heroes of newearth nice battle system
Darkfall offers the biggest rush and the most edge of your seat experience that any game has to offer currently. No other game compares to Darkfall in this manner. It is the hardest MMO out there and the most realistic feeling with a strong death penalty in an open no-instanced huge world with FFA PVP (full-loot). In most of the games mentioned in here, they are easy enough to make a macro to kill mobs . ... that is pretty sad and boring if you can have something hit tab+1+2+3+4 for you and you win . .. there is no way in hell that you can make any macro good enough to kill mobs in Darkfall. They are way too intelligent for that and act like real monsters. This makes the PVE in this game funner than any other imo because the mobs have actual intelligence and the game never gets easy, no matter how long that you play.
I am playing a few games right now . .. all of the ones mentioned in this thread thus far are all fun for when I want to play something 'safe' and easy for a bit but there is never any real sense of accomplishment or failure in those games.
There is a 14-day free trial right now and the servers are pretty empty because a patch is coming out tomorrow and an expansion in a few months that are going to change the grind significantly so most DFO players are not playing until then in fear that they will be grinding for nothing. I think that now is a great time for a new person to start as it is easy to find mobs that are PK free as the population is usually a lot more. There are a lot of new players coming (35,000 downloads from fileplanet in only 3 days) and now is a great time to start to be ahead of the DF2010 generation that is going to boom after the expansion.
Most people cannot handle this game as it is very much risk vs reward with a lot of player-skill involved. It is not easy to start out in this game and it took me months of casually playing before I finally learned the combat tactics more than the average player. This is the most under-rated game out there by far. 95% of the reviews are done after just a couple days of playing at most. The ui and controls (which are fully customizable) are very hard to get used to at first but once you get used to it you may feel like someone took your ability to jump away when you play a different game . .. seriously right now I am playing AoC, Guildwars, and GA on the side and I would take what I used to think was a crappy Darkfall UI/controls over anything. I feels really really fun and a lot more realistic with so many more options once you get used to it. I tried to turn off floating names, red-circles around the mobs, floating numbers, etc. in AoC to get a more realistic Darkfall kind of feel but it still does not compare at all because once I start fighting a mob it feels way to easy and stupid. I am also upset that if you hide all of the visual stuff, your health and stam are hidden as well so I cannot do it . .. forced to have a bunch of fluff on my screen that I do not want. Very surprised that Vanguard was mentioned for PVP . .. the server is dead or I would still be playing it on the side or on my 2nd monitor while harvesting/crafting in Darkfall.
If you check out Darkfall forums you will see lots of people complaining about the grind but this is to be fixed tomorrow and even more in a few months. As it is right now, the grind only exists for mages pretty much. You can specialize in melee/archery without grinding much at all and take on any 'mage of everything' with enough practice. Prestige classes are coming out in the next expansion to help out the mage grind and to give more specializations. You can customize almost every one of your skills and gear . .. like choosing to jump with one spell, do more damage with another, have further range, etc. Gear can be enchanted in many different ways to aid whatever play-style that you prefer.
Anyways, check it out!

99% of the vids on youtube have all the graphics turned down all the way to be able to run fraps while fighting and most spell effects/sounds have changed as well. Here are some cool vids though:

I cannot describe the rush that I got the first time that I was trying to defend a player-made city .. . I was among the archers up on the ramparts who saw the first wave of a couple hundred mounts rolling down the mountain side . .. 15 months later and my heart still jumps everytime that I play.

depends on your preference whether you want a hack and slash or a turn based game..... hmmm I like Dragonice and Aika
You've got me interested now! I'm going to download the trial tonight and I'll get started tomorrow night after work! Just picked up a GTX 470 as I was having problems with my 5770 so I can't wait to knock it outta the park. Any suggested race?
Thanks to all the posters(!),

All of the races start out in totally different areas of the map. There is no race that is the best but there is a big difference in playing each one. Very hard question . .. but to be honest my personal preference is to have something with a small hitbox that is stealthy. Alfar fit this category the most but the 'good' races do have so many NPC cities to safely base out of . .. but if I were to reroll something other than a human than it would probably be an Alfar.
I play this game for a challenge and being against every race would be more exciting but unfortunately I would have to ride a mount more often because of the lack of safe spots to bind to.
Most people roll a Human though it seems which is what I am and what I love but Humans are the most untrusthworthy of races . .. lol They stab eachothers backs more often than other races I think because it is the most popular race.
Turn off your shadows right when you log into the game if you want to drastically improve your FPS. Also, get some food right away and you will be twice as tough.
If you are in NA server feel free to send me a tell. /tell Sid Vicious hi
I play pretty casually though because I work full-time, etc. etc.
I must warn you that this game is much funner to the person who has a little IT xp . .. was the most difficult game to customize controls and get it to work the best.
