New FFXIV faster beta combat

They redid the combat so it's not super slow like in alpha here watch it:

So i think what I see, if I'm correct, is that instead of having to wait for your gauge to fill up to attack, the gauge is constantly charging up and everytime you use an attack or skill a portion of it will be used.

It's not really much -faster-, but it's much more natural and fluid. If you need to decide which skill to use, your bar will raise during that time. You don't really have to wait between attacks as long as you're not just mindlessly spamming normal attacks.

Lookd great, but with all the emphasis on 'group tactics' and the very image on the box art (with a group huddles back to back) I was expecting collision on the models. Hmmmph.

It's logical for it to be faster since you don't need to wait for the action gauge to fill up before using the next skill. You can basically spam the skills until it empties out, while taking into consideration the animations of course. It won't be ideally efficient, but feasable none the less.

Regardless, it seems like it's a considerable improvement on the current system. :)

I'm just really happy that Auto-Attack is still non-existent, that was a worry on my mind when they said a new combat system.  So far I like what they've done but I don't see much change in speed which is fine.  All thats been changed is that it now allows for button mashers to attack 4-5 times in a row before they have to wait a few seconds to do it again.

It appears that it'll still be very tactical and intelligent combat like FFXI is.  ~yatta!

Adding to this, and for those that didn't notice, there is now a small bubble on the left end of your stamina bar, and each attack uses the amount of stamina that bubble covers.  If you look closely you'll see during the fights that some attacks make the bubble grow slightly larger, and several Weapons Skills that had a much larger {almost looks like 2 bubbles} of stamina required to use.

Not sure about that combat music but I guess that can always be turned off.  Action bar seems about the same function as endurance bar in vg, except maybe no ability to accellerate it and probably no debuffing of it from mobs.

Time magic, like Haste and slow could effect it, that actually would make sense for those spells to increase and decrease the speed of the action bar.

But I could be wrong :)

I think this 'new' combat will work better.

I think I'd fall asleep playing.  I'd have to rewatch it to be sure but it looked like two mobs running through their attacks almost as if the other wasn't there.  Very mechanical and still for the times.  It is FF though so, some slow combat and stand around could pass as being true to the franchise.
