I would agree, developers take advantage of the space region and make it more of a grind while traveling between star systems.

Maybe that will all change in the NASA mmo...I wonder if you get to launch into space after the character creation screen and the player gets stuck on the Moon for the next 80 hours.

    TO OP:

To be completely frank load screens are not going to kill an entire genre. In fact overall loadscreen hate is WAY out of balance. As horrorifying at it maybe I would play a game that had a load screen for each planet as I entered the planet. Load screen for space, load screen for ship.

It would not make my headspin and spit out peas

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

It's also very hard to deliver this experience in the real world.  If i want to board a plane, fly into the air and land in another city.  I'd get get stuck staring at at least 5 different screens along the way.  So why try deliver something that's clearly unrealistic?  Immersion in a space game is browsing the web and watching porn while your ship flies from one planet to another though emptiness.  For this reason, it's actually a lot easier to achieve in a sci-fi game.

Let's not forget that a load screen does not have to be static.  It can just as well be an animation.  Heck, a griffon flight in WoW is a sort of loading screen.  You can only watch things happen but cannot get of the griffon or interact with the world in any way.

In a space game the 'hyperspace view' would be a load screen if you were unable to change destinations midflight.

I'm sorry OP, but you're wrong. Someone already posted the URL in this thread, but no one seemed to take any notice, so I'll give you something a bit more tangible. Here is a clear example of just how wrong you are:

You forgot to add 'in my opinion' to the end of that statement.

Anyway,  loadscreens don't bother me.  I've always kept my video card up to date with latest graphic card so I can enjoy the visual treats of games.  Loading screens give devs more oppertunities to add these treats for me.  So, again, I don't mind them and I'm looking forward to playing SWTOR.

well in all fairness I think what he is saying is that you have one server for all players. That server can have as many load screens as it wants and I agree load screens dont bother me. What he is saying is that having all players in one 'logical' world is nice.

Games don't necessarily need to to be seamless - that would be a utopia of gaming environment organisation - but I've nothing against the Asheron's Call portals, the WoW instance gates and boat rides, Eve wormholes etc.

As long as you're not made to wait too long, a short pause is a great time to stretch the mouse-cramped fingers, rip open another tinny and take a moment to unplug yourself from the matrix, before the immersion starts again.

We don't need perfection - we just need it to be good enough to keep us happy, interested and motivated.

Personaly I could care less how many load screens I encounter...I'm perfectly fine with load screens. The only real problem I have with instances is when they are private instances (i.e. You and I land on Naboo and your on instance #23 of Naboo and I'm on instance #51 so we can't see or interact with each other) . Public instances (i.e. "zones") are perfectly fine in my book and they are very usefull from the Developers standpoint in terms of resource management. I'd MUCH rather a Developer impliment loading screens to deal with resource management issues and throw the cash/man-hours/hardware they would otherwise need at waste to address those issues into improving other game systems that matter more to my play experience.
