Operation "We don't want two factions" - WAR40kOnline

-----------------------------------------------

Sooo,

you might have already seen this text from the official website (http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/)

"On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.

But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these ost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.[/size]

Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter."

Of course nothing has yet been confirmed but I guess we all know this statement will most likely lead to a two faction system.

Looking at the massive problems which derived from such a system in Mythics Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning you have to ask yourself: Do you really want to see that again?

Dark Millenium should be in alpha at the moment. There sould still be a way to implement a third faction BUT we must let Vigil Games know our wish! The sooner, the better! (an implementation after the release or in Beta is also much more expensive for VG)

There are three ways to gain attention

1) Be so kind and drop Vigil Games a line on their facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=129007387123006&topic=128

2) Sign the petition (your name will not show if you sign the petition):

3) Join the facebook group "We don't want a two-faction-system in WH40k Dark Millenium"

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=122334907808242

Again: Nothing has been confirmed yet. And you might think I am a little bit overreacting. But it's always better to be on the safe side, right?

Show them what you think about the idea.

Cheers

Wolfner

I want to spread the word of this campaign. We've already discussed that this maybe a over reaction. But even if it is and we are going to get more then 2 factions or the proper faction setup where orks aren't hugging herectics then we don't mind looking like fools. It's better to be safe then sorry. All information to help the movement can be found in the qoute and I've created a banner for us to wave to let vigil know how we feel.

Here here! What else is the Imperial Guard good for but to be a 3rd underdog faction constantly getting it's ass kicked so hard by the space marines and orks alike?

oh god i cannot believe they are going to make the same mistake that WAR did.

My money is on Space Marines and Chaos Marines being playable, all other races as NPCs.

  • Aegis980Aegis980 Member Posts: 9

I think you can look at the Forces of Order and Forces of Destruction in a different perspective.

There are most definitely two kinds of races in 40k. Races that want to fuck everything up, and races that are just trying to reclaim a bit of their former glory. Chaos and Order.

Could that statement not just be a generalization and reference of the different race's in the game and those race's in fact will still fight each other?

And even further still all I saw in the trailer was Space Marines, Fail Guard, Orks, and CSM. When you think about it, this could potentially be a 3 Way between an Imperium, Orks, and CSM scenerio.

There is also the fact that we no jack diddly about this game besides a short trailer, and a couple paragraphs of fluff. Because as 40k players we know that fluff is always a relible source of how the rules of a game playout right?

Until we get a full interview or a couple of walkthrough videos, People need to calm down.

Yeah we've had this discussion already. Point is that 2 factions even if it isn't chaos spacemarine and a ork healing each other will most likely flop for a RvR game. There are several mmos that have more then 2 factions that are much more mentionable then WAR. The extra element is what we want the game to have so theres never a moment where 1 faction is the top dog or flavor of the month.

We're hoping for the 3 way you mentioned where its orks, imperium and CSM that would be much better then SM vs CSM or SM + Imp vs CSM + orks.

It won't happen expect at least 3 races per side.

Me an' da boyz ain't gonna WAAAGH! wit 'dem ugly chaos humies! We's can fights fine by ourselves! Sod off!

But seriously, they need to reconsider this. Two factions are nowhere near as fun as three (or even four), and avoids a lot of the common pitfalls of RvR games.

I still hold out hope that we're misinterpreting the text on their page.

signed we dont want to fraction it will SUCK BALLS!

ps: I personaly only want Marines and the ability to become corrupted, think my Idea of corrupted leagions battling amongst themselfs while occasinaly chalshing with loyal chapters is the best solution to not making this game break and fail....

    SIGNED.

FvF has its place, and that place is WoW.

  • laokokolaokoko Member UncommonPosts: 2,004

is it even a RvR game?

If not, it's probably not very important.

  • ZyllosZyllos Member UncommonPosts: 537

    I want nothing short of

Space Marines/Imperial Guard/Sisters/ect vs Chaos Space Marines/Daemons vs Orks vs Eldar vs Necrons vs Tau vs Tyranids vs Dark Eldar.

I think I could stand Necrons/Tyranids/Dark Eldar as being NPC factions that everyone fights against but I really think the other five races are needed...

    No Eldar?

Why not do something VERY different and have a 5 faction game!!!!

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

  • kaiser3282kaiser3282 Member UncommonPosts: 2,759

Signed. They should take a lesson from what happened with WAR, as well as most other 2 faction games. It simply doesnt work right in an MMO. 1 side will always become dominant, either because of class imbalances or number imbalances. The best way to counter that is to have 3+ factions, where if 1 side does become too dominant, the 2 weaker sides can work together to topple them. If Mythic had simply designed WAR as 3+ factions instead of 2, it would have seen much greater success.

This is sort of what I was thinking would be interesting. Chaos and orks would also be FFA in thier own faction.

Noone really knows yet.  It's just assumed to be one I guess, since it's all about war.  It very could be a complete template copy of how WoW and EQ handles the game play in which case 2 factions work just fine.

  • GodHatesFigsGodHatesFigs Member Posts: 5

I don't know if it will work. I love the idea of a new type of game with 3+ factions but keeping the factions somewhat balanced in numbers seems hard to do.
