I have played quite a few MMO's and almost all of them have failed to live up to their promises. FFXVI seems to be different.
Has Square Enix lived up to its promises in the past?
Is the pve comparable to any other game?
Is crafting a large part of their games?
How is the ingame economy?
I know there is an NDA so people can't discuss beta experiences. I'm looking more for past experiences so that I can either continue to follow the game and remain excited for release or come to the realization that this game will be no different than the others.

It will be different, but if thats a good or bad thing depends on you. Some features may be more important to you than others (for example there's no jumping function, but you can change your classes freely without having to resort to alts, and can mix and match skills from every class).
I'd say keep an eye out on this one, and have an open mind about these things. Also remember, there are haters to every game. I tried to give my honest opinion there, but some people will troll you by dissing the game and some will turn on the fanboy mode. Don't let them judge the game for you.
well buddy. u might find comfort knowing we're all pretty much in the same boat. the FF series have been know to undergo re-invention from one title to the next. each of us r holding our breathe hoping that this one will be another awesome installment. SquareEnix just recently revamped the combat system from the alpha testing which goes to show that its still anyones guess what the game will turn out to be. its still too early to tell, but hopefully it will be a new experience for all of us. i do like some FF titles more than others but one things for sure, they put at lot into these game. since it'll be a different installment im hoping they can capture me again. we're all gonna have to keep an open mind for this one. a lot of us r bringing some high expectations and preconceptions from other games (including other FF titles). i know there will be new players and diehards that love ffxi who won't give ffxiv the light of day for its differences. just like u we all should keep an open mind and give it a chance on launch. i think we're all waiting to see if it'll be amazing.
... p.s. FFxi is not the game it started out to be. i actually left that game for 2 years and resubscribed just to revisit it. with all the updates and patches the game felt significantly different. SE had tackled a lot of issues that plague many mmo's from RMT, botting, level sync, the endless running, and other mini game types like besiege or choco raising/racing. the game has shown a clear evolution and they implemented some very good solutions. not much can be said about a yet-to-be-release game, but SquareEnix (IMO) has been very good in the past.

Thanks for the responses. They really helped. Looks like ill be preordering this as soon as it is offered.
At the very least, S-E can be trusted not to try and pull a quick cash-grab - their brand identity is far too valuable to waste like that.

depends what you find amazing really, if you want fast combat this game would be a waste of time.but that you d see just by the new video from E3 with their clip of faster combat for the beta build.
so far combat have not been the main part about FFXIV to me, but there is alot of good things ....afew bad things that they should do something about.....atm havin a good time over all. tho alot of ppl on forums want the good things changed :
either way...for once an adventure game *cheers* NOT an action game at all....now if they would just add jumping
edit: hm for poster above said they would be disappointed if the game didnt get out this year...but that is as close to a promise you get from them, and sure they made soloing possible..
SE doesn't bend over that easily... I hear the threads are mostly about cheesecake which sounds alarming.
If SE is anti-cheesecake then I am going to boycott this game!!!!!!
That and jumping! /roll_eyes
