F2P Only get 1 character slot???!!?

Are you kidding me? 1 character slot? Usually I like to try out each class before commiting to one but with f2p you'll have to delete your character to try out a new class?
Just when I thought lotro going f2p couldnt get any lamer the fails keep rolling in...

I think, (although uncertain) that it will be one character per server. You could always try the game now without that limitation, decide on a class then come back.

God... some people bitch they are giving freebs everything, the rest complain it's not enough.
1 char is all you need to check whether you are going to play it further and pump money into it, and it's all I need to hop in and play lute while growing pipeweed - so I don't care.
Plus, ever though about character names? This is how they will limit it to free accounts.

Its 1 PER SERVER, could just test them out on multiple servers, or as mentioned above, do the Free Trial now and try any class.

If you thought going f2p was lame (and couldn't get lamer) why would you want to play it in the first place?
In any case just make a character on whatever servers are open and try them out. In additoin they are opening one or two new servers when the game goes f2p so that should add and additional two servers.

Where did you get the 1 per server info? All I'm reading is "Free players have 1 character slot to start. At any point, you can purchase more character slots in the LOTRO Store"

This rant is just lame. You can play one char till end game for FREE. Be happy. You know, the sub option is still there. You can sub it and get everything.
As much as I am against F2P/hybrid games, rants like "I only get 1 character slot when I don't pay anything?!?" rants are annoying.
But you have to remember, there is a significant portion of the supports of F2P models who support it because they don't plan on ever spending a dime. They expect to get everything without ever spending any money. And then genuinely feel cheated when they don't. However no one really listens to them because seeing as they are never going to put any money into the games, there's no reason for the industry to cater to them in any fashion.
Still annoying to see their forum posts though.
Has everyone fallin a sleep? F2P doesn't mean free to play it means pay pay pay! BT Barnem, " A sucker born every minute!" I think that is how you spell his name lol ... F2P is just a fancy marketing tool that gets your butt in the chair to play there game and gets you to micro trans to put money in their pockets. That's the cost of entertainment. Companies are not putting out real mmorpg's any more and that is why the subs wain after while so they try these sucker moves to get your money. If they put out a real mmorpg in the first place they wouldn't have to wonder about the future they would be wondering about how to make a better mmorpg.
If you want to try all classes on a free account, just spread your characters over different servers.
Plus, nobody can stop you from creating several free accounts.
It is amusing, how all the current players seem to think what a great deal this will be for them.

Just wait a year - 18 months from now, they'll be paying $30 a month just to get a similar experience to what they are getting now...thanks to hidden nerfs and such. And that's on top of what Turbine might soak out of them when it comes to LIs, which are ripe for cash shop exploitation.

You get to play for FREE and you're crying about getting only one slot to start out with? You do realize they will let you purchase more with the point they are giving out for free right? Here's a tip drop 10 bucks and buy the damn game before it goes F2P and get all the slots and free points your little heart desires.
I don't think it's a great deal, I think nothing's going to change. Which is how I want it. Make it F2P, give it an unlimited free trial, I don't care as long as you don't take anything away from me. Turbine understands that.
Aren't you a lifer? You can actually come back in a year - 18 months and see how ridiculous you sound now. Or, if you turn out to be right, you can gloat in-game. If it does get that bad, I'll have cancelled by that point.

Also note that if you upgrade to Premium (ie buying even the smallest point amount) you will get 2 extra slots /server free.

The biggest lie being spewed is by anyone form Turbine is saying the game is "Free to play". The fact a company says that, seriously has an effect on their credibility.

Well, in that case players that don't want to pay 30 bucks will pack up and go "somewhere else". Should enough players remain after that for devs to be on the plus side... well, it will just show that devs know how to make money. Capitalism is just about that. Making money. All the rest is the means to the end.
One however should be aware that too much greed tends to create disasters like the now infamous oil spill.
And no-one really knows what will happen tomorrow or in a year or two. All your clever "predictions" are based on the statistics of the past. It is true that the history tends to repeat itself.
On the other hand, sometimes history gets bored of it and tries something new for a change
Oh man, there are glimpses of whats to come for Lotro, read the DDO forums, Turbine has most def moved the goalposts substantially since its F2P launch. There is no arguing that. The new update is moving the goalposts again. Its coming for Lotro. Those who like it should stay and enjoy themselves, but those that do, dont think the rest of the gaming community is naive enough to buy into the BS spin. The game will change and that change will be driven by whats for sale at the store. It all wont be on the surface either. There will be changes to core game mechanics to make the purchase of "Store" items more important. Turbine says "Convienience not advantage" what they are not telling you that at the very core level they will make the game feel more like you "need" these convience items. Just ask the DDO players how they feel about the huge increase in grindy gameplay lol.
What about the limit of ... 2 Gold for F2P and .... 5 Gold for "premium accounts".
Plus the fact they limit the number of bags on how much you pay them.
Don't these companies realise they even motivate players to pay for anything.
These systems even influence proper P2P games in a very BAD way: gold sellers are being promoted with such systems.
