Couples MMO Burnout and what to play?

quietasquietas Member UncommonPosts: 15

I'm a long term MMO vet from the Meridian 59 and UO days with progression through 6 years of EQ, 5 in EQ2 and a couple in WoW. I've played and beta tested most every game out there, but lately I can't seem to find a game.

I'm 32 now and a father 2x and I've just finished college (second attempt, damned eq1) and finally I have a bit of time, but I'm not into the 6 hours of raiding each and every night any more. I do havethe benefit of having a semi-active game playing, MMO friendly wife, who wil most likely want to play as well. We enjoy PvE, PvP with constraints on location (aka no random ganking), exploration, and questing rather than straight mob kill grinds.

That said, we do have accounts to EQ1, EQ2, WoW, and LOTRO which can be reactivated with characters in the first 3 which are max level, but out of date raid gear.

Any recommendations for a casual PvE MMO with depth, exploration, and some focused purposeful PvP?

I have no aversion or bias against WoW or any game in particular, but I guess I'm looking for some opinions.

Guild Wars.  Seriously.  PvE storyline is incredibly deep, PvP is very balanced, and the best part for me, no sub.  I have limited time to play, so I don't want to sub to a game and feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.  With GW, I can log in when I get a few hours and I don't feel obligated to play 20+ hours  a week.

Worst case scenario, its a decent secondary game to have installed.  Oh, and if you're concerned about GW2 coming out soon and nullifying the experience, don't be.  There are tons of things to unlock in GW that are supposed to carry over to GW2 if you have the Eye of the North expansion.

Guild Wars is one I had forgotten about. We played the first one prior to expansions and found the content limiting. I'd assume after the updates things have improved greatly?

Depends on who you ask.  Nightfall, the third pack, is generally considered to be the best one, and not just because it introduced customizable heroes to use as henchman.  I personally haven't played through much of EOTN content personally, I want to finish all 3 core campaigns first, so I can't attest to that.  But, I came late to the game, after all the expansions were released, so my opinion is that there is plenty of content, and I've been happily toiling away for the past year and a half at the game, a week or so at a time, in between other games.

Currently, there is an ongoing in game event that's leading up to GW2 as well.  So, yeah, in my opinion, plenty of content.

This may sound like a weird recommendation but a game my girlfriend and I had fun running together in was Wizards 101. It is a family friendly game but we still had a good amount of fun in it. Both of us are in our mid 30's so we did not expect much from it but it surprised us.

Vanguard if low population is not a problem.

I second that. Great game for exploration and questing. Though I don't know how pvp is in that game. Also the crafting is the best I've seen.

Yes I have a dream… And its not some MLK dream for equality. …I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse …And I wanna live at the top… And nobody knows I live there. …And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.

After advice from many people on the forums, I went back to try DAoC, I was amazed at the game and how it has changed. I would highly suggest giving it a try ( or another one )

I've thoguht about Vangaurd, I haven't played it since beta. Also DAoC hasn't been on my system since beta. Both have evolved a lot over the last coupe years. I might see if there is a beta I can play with and test for a bit.
