I found Dark Age of Camelot today at a local store for 10 dollars and i picked it up.  It was the platinum edition.  I installed and created an account and put in my cd key correctly to the patcher and now it says it can not connect to the update server.  I live in the United states on the east coast and i have a wired connection. I turned off every firewall and every anti virus and security program and still it says that it can not connect to the update server.  I checked their website and it did not say the servers were down, or at least i think it didnt say that.  I keep getting this error called error 201 and and a link to the patcher site.  Still nothing helps.  did you guys ever get this error?  If so how did you fix it?

Thanks

I got the game working.  If you too have the same problem, this is what i did.  It is really easy and i should of checked it first.  All you do is download the client from the official website.

Yes, Mythic stopped patching the older clients years ago, but the latest client, labby, is downloadable and free, the only thing you'll ever need to play is to buy a key, everything else gets patched in.

Thanks for the info about the new patcher and such.  Now i have a new problem.  this is way easier to solve.  I just started and got to level three.  I heard there is pvp at all levels and that the pvp is some of the finest out there(Or at least better than Warhammer online).  Is it best to do all the tutorial missions?  When does the tutorial end?   I saw the xfire numbers that were pretty small but there were a lot of servers.  How many people gernerally play on the average pvp server?

The tutorial runs up to level 10, after which you stop receiving XP until you exit to the regular game. I would recommend running the tutorial to the end; you learn about in-game systems and get a nice load of gear including a mount. You can access the 1-5 and 6-10 PvP dungeons inside the tutorial (be careful how you exit the dungeon, you could exit the tutorial in the process). You can access the PvP battlegrounds from those dungeons, too.

DAoC's PvP server is a free-for-all rule set, I understand. The regular servers are realm vs realm PvP.

Yes the free for all PvP Server is Mordred, it's usually pretty empty and the regular server has plenty of RvR to keep PvP players happy and has the population of PvE players that usually venture into RvR every night., it helps to have RvR Realm Abilities o perform better in their PvE :)

The server(s) you want to be in is Ywain, there's almost 2k players in there every morning due to the euro and oceania players and packed at primetime EST.

the turt ends at level 15 or 16 i forgot but its those two levels. but the pvp dungen is up to level 10  then go you to battlegrounds. the best levels to go is

    killioe  15-19

    thid-20-24

    and  molvilk  35-39

then when yo hit level 40 just get to level 50 lol and go rvr and join a rvr guild.

You need to go on one of the servers called Ywain. Although you'll find 10 different Ywains, they are basically all linked to the same server. That is were almost all daoc players are playing and which is packed at primetime. Do not choose Mordred (the FFA PVP Server) as it is empty and is a special ruleset server.

Just stay in the tutorial until you have finished all quests and then head out to the normal zones and level until 20. Ask in /advice if you need any assistance to find a good spot to level your character. By level 20 you'll then be able to enter the Thidranki battleground. This is usually the first battleground, which is quite populated. Stay there until 25 or realm rank 1l5. You will by then have learned a little about the RvR mechanics in DAOC. Afterwards continue leveling until 36, which will then allow you to enter the next very popular battleground called Molvik. When hitting level 40, you again need to level through PVE until you hit 50 and can finally start helping to defend your home realm in the frontier zones; i.e. siege warfare, zerging, small group rvr whatever you prefer. If you decide to enjoy the battlegounds a little bit longer, you have the option to do /xp off and /rp off in order to prevent leveling out of its rp and level limits.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, pm me.
