factions

this is purely hypothetical, but, i wish that bioware would make 3 sides or factions.  instead of republic vs sith. like how they have smugglers on the republic and bounty hunters on sith.  they could make a nuetral alignment and throw those in there with possibly other class in the future.

i know pvp is going to be just bg's out the ass, but if they do have open world pvp it would be a lot funner to have a 3rd party to mix it up with instead of the same ol good vs evil shit that all games follow

just a thought..

I think for the most part no one has any opinions here because if it were to happen it would be well after launch. Most people are focusing on what the game will be at launch and the devs have said that there will not be a neutral faction then. So that is my guess why there isn't much discussion on this.

I like the Idea, but I see them doing things a little different.  I see them letting people who have the same alignment party and quest together. People of a certain alignment could even group up for P.V.P based objectives maybe? The cool thing about alignment based group is that it will allow both Sith and Republic members to experience content together.

Maybe that could lead to a good and evil sub-faction.

I don't think a third faction would really be fair to be honest.  There just aren't enough middle ground characters unless you split factions based on alignment or something like that...  and if there was one faction that was a catch-all that could allow for an exchange of both classes from the original factions I think it would be overpowered.

The best I could think of is having NPC factions that you can align with for added lightside/darkside gains and faction specific rewards, but nothing that would act as a true third faction.

This topic has been presented before, and the upshot is: the lore is set, there is a dark and light side of the force. Want to be nuetral? Not very likely, Empire would beat you down in 2 seconds. In a Star Wars game, for now, 2 factions is the only thing that makes sense.

Dont know if it matters, but a middle-ground might help this title.  It's in trouble with the announced 90% of the game-play world being open pve. The other 10%, we can only surmise is the heavily instanced, and very redundent-like map raids and WAR-type pvp scenarios.

There is absolutely no way you can say (and prove) that the 10% is redundant as we don't know what that 10 percent is,  but if every flashpoint is instanced, then yes, there is a great deal of instanced content for story missions and group missions that utilize flashpoints.

You also can't say that 90% of it is open PvE... they said 90% is open world where you can see other players, that does not necessarily mean PvE -- that can be open world PvP.

Creating another faction wouldn't change anything.

20+ million people from just one game (CoDMW2) prove that people love heavily instanced, redundent-like maps.  11++ million people playing wow prove that heavily instanced, extremely redundent-like maps work well anyways.

While a third party faction would be great, there was hardly ever a third faction until really far in the EU.  It was always 2 factions in SW.

It's cool you know how much of the game is heavily instanced pvp and what is pve.  I sure haven't heard anything about that.  I sure heard them say, there will be open world pvp and instanced pvp.

This.  A third faction would be severely underpopulated and lack a lot of iconic roles (which draw people to play such characters).  Also, it wouldn't have much sway in galactic affairs.  Who wants to play the faction that always is a minor player?  Some people, I am sure, but not 33% of the game's population.
