I'll huck rocks at NCSoft all day, but when it comes down to brass tacks it's Guild Wars.
Sure, support is minimal, however there is not only no subscription cost but some small level of support as well. Moreover, all of the content in the game is viable and worth exploring. The Zaishen Challenges that ArenaNet offers daily encourage the exploration of content players have already seen and has completely revitalised the Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry PvP areas. PvE has a hardmode that is open to any level 20 character on an account provided at least one character has beaten the campaign and it can be terribly unforgiving if you have the wrong build and team setup. The stories, except for Factions, are rather interesting, even compelling, and the campaigns require you to advance the storyline to open some areas. Yes, the stories are rather short compared to games concieved on a much larger scope but for what it does it does it damn well.
(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain. (2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
God I miss these golden days of MMORPG's and esp. the community.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Sorry, but there was no way I was gonna let WoW's name be bigger. LOL (couldn't resist)
And like the person that said "WoW"...I offer no apologies for my choice, although there are other games I like too...EQ2 is my favorite. I could add that it's followed by Ultima Online POST Trammel (so sue me).
For all it's flaws it is the only game that currently fullfils my criteria. Its casual and yet persistent. You can jump in for a 15 minute break or spend the weekend campaiging. You can switch between PvP and PvE at any point in advancement and never feel you're gimping your character. You can get into heavy socializning and RP if you wish and yet you are appreciated even if you don't feel like saying a word in chat and just kill stuff. If I'm into feeling heroic I start my warband and enjoy building my motley pug crew into a killing machine to be reckoned with. If I'm into "show me where they are" I join a warband lead by someone I know. And If I'm into "who cares, lets have a laugh" I join whatever.
I hope something better comes along soon but at the moment this is where it's at for me. I tried numerous other titles but I don't see any other offering such... versatility to a player.
All time favorite: Star Wars Galaxies, which wasn't my first MMORPG but was the first MMORPG that truly made me "fall in love" with this genre. Liked Medidian59 and UO but SWG was on top for me.
Lineage 2 is my favorite mmo because its has everyting that I want in a mmo. Open pvp, open world and player controlled sandbox type political system. I have tried just about everything out there and the only other mmo I can really give props to is Everquest 2. I recently did a couple months in that game and really saw how great a game it is and how even greater it use to be. I just wish I had tried it back in its early days.
There are a lot of new games out there which are really good. But I guess I'll stick to my favorite MMO which is ragnarok online. Though I'm looking forward to games that are going to be released in the future. Maybe it's time to be updated with the new games. (keeping an open mind to suggestions)
Favorite MMO is SWG Pre CU. Despite all it's flaws and problems no MMO have given me as much fun memories as that game. Also the only game that made me somewhat interested in crafting too.
Count me in on the Pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies train. Why are there no classic servers? I wish a game developer would mimic the features that made it such a unique and immersive experience someday. I've tried everything from WoW to Darkfall and no game can match what made SWG so great back then.
F2P: RF Online, for all the PvP fun I had over the years fighting alongside my brother and all the friends I made while playing RF and went to several other games with, especially Epyon, Ziddicus, Talgeese, and CylonCenturion
P2P: Pretty close between a few like GW, EQ1&2, LOTRO, Ryzom all for various reasons, and WAR for again the PvP fun alongside my bro and the rest of the guilds we were in, especially Dominus Nocturnus.
Pre-CU SWG was the most immersive and community driven game I have ever played. Nothing has come close to the magic I experienced in that "broken" game.
Until companies start making AAA virtual world MMOs instead of digital Disneylands, we won't see anything like it again.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

It was my third MMO, and literally blew me away from day one. I have played many games since then and have never experienced anything like the fun I had playing DAOC.

I'd have to go with AoC and GW...I'm hoping to be able to add GW2 on the list as well

I've enjoyed WoW (pre-TBC), Vanguard and the first few months of Darkfall (till it became Harry Potter Online).
/agree
There is nothing like the perfect MMO or anythimng close to that, but since i keep returning to WoW... it must be a great MMO, despite its many flaws.
In the end WoW is just a tiny bit better then its orriginator EQ, but thats only because i am done and over with camping
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Tablua Rasa all the way
I've said it numerous times before and I'm gonna say it again: Neocron
Currently: Guild Wars (and can't wait for GW2)
Overall I'd have to break it down a little:
F2P: RF Online, for all the PvP fun I had over the years fighting alongside my brother and all the friends I made while playing RF and went to several other games with, especially Epyon, Ziddicus, Talgeese, and CylonCenturion
P2P: Pretty close between a few like GW, EQ1&2, LOTRO, Ryzom all for various reasons, and WAR for again the PvP fun alongside my bro and the rest of the guilds we were in, especially Dominus Nocturnus.
Darkfall of course..;)
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

DAOC was the best mmo ever made.
Wow is good
pre-pbase ownage SWG was also very fun.
