Looks pretty uneventful and uninspired if you ask me, the combat needs to look and feel more exciting!

Next time, trying editing out the boring crap of the moron who seems utterly unable to work a computer at the controls. I didn't have the patience to sit through 8 minutes of that spaz, so I have no idea what Final Fantasy combat looks like.

and spamming the same attack like mad is so much better is it?

From the looks of this vid the combat isn't 'slowmo' at all actally it's normal speed, with the stam bar it puts up a ton of more thought into what you are doing and places a ton more on tactics then pure power - A thing thats heavily lacking in MMOs these days.

Dispite your 'comment' you'll find a large number of people would prefer this type of combat over the near-fps speeds we've drifted to over the past 5-6 years

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

    Looks good.

Finally an MMO that is more about tactics rather than button smashing.... I could see where people "watching" the game wouldn't enjoy it, watching a game of chess is also boring compared to actually playing it.

You could have skipped through some of the crap.

i had high hopes on the ff combat after they said the will revamp a bit and make it faster , but for me thats to slow.

i like eq combat speeds so theres more action and u dont have 5 seconds to choose what skill u want to click.

Yep. People like myself. While I like fast and furious combat I also REALLY enjoy slower, more thought heavy combat ala FFXI. This looks like FFXI combat but sped up a bit and unhindered by not being able to use the mouse to target and sheathing resheathing etc. Good stuff! I cannot wait!

Also, remember, Square likes to change things without the public knowing so by launch it may be even faster.

Ok the game looks good. That is all I saw in this video.

The Video was very BAD. Where was the combat video? I did not need to see how dumb some people.

Next time some one want to show off a games combat they need to have a person who knows how to use a keyboard and a mouse.

The person playing had a hard time even following another player. Right there that should of told the guys that are filming to stop and wait for some one else in line that can knows how to follow some one atleast.

I wanted to see combat not a dumb fat guy that has no idea what he is doing.

The faster the combat, the more button-mashing > tactics and skill. It's more of a trade-off than anything else, and it's a matter of opinion.

Personally I prefer a slower paced combat system that is more tactical and has a bit of dept rather than a super-fast flashy and action-packed combat that lacks substance even though I like both.

For a PvE game like FF XIV an intricate and thoughtful combat system is definitely the way to go. It forces the gamer to actually make combat choices, and let's face it folks the nonsense your average WoW retribution paladin can pull off is just plain nuts. This is a return to skill in PvE.

I think one of the reasons why the combat seems boring, is because of the person who was controlling the character. He had already trouble following his teammember, let alone being able to fight those monsters.

After seeing this video, Im more curious about the controls. They are either very unusual/clunky or the person who was playing is a noob lol.

EDIT: I see the mods comment about not attacking the player, but in this video the player's clumsiness really got in the way of showing how combat works. Which is what the video was supposed to be about.

(From Alpha....  the combat speed in this video is much slower than the new combat, but at least you get to see someone who actually knows how to play and give the game a little justice).

    Worst combat video ever.

  • Dionysus187Dionysus187 Member Posts: 302

The person playing the demo seems like hes never played a MMO before. Just completely lost. Even the guy trying to explain sounded like he was losing his patience. Took at least a minute to to figure out how to walk around.

Smashing your 30 attacks as fast as you can trying to keep them down like a whack-a-mole game does not involve skill or strategy. And no, creating a proper 'attack rotation' doesn't involve skill either. Carefully choosing your attacks because you have more options than time/resources does require skill to win, however.

Its NOT a proper comparison as he pointed out, the youtube video is the slower system. So you have a good player on the slower system and a bad one on the faster system.

Reminds me of brad Mcquaids blog post where he said WoW was way too easy and boring. Speed != Skill. God forbid the combat isn't some anime spaz fest lol

Thanks for posting the link.  So the combat is slow and boring even with an experienced player.   Good to have the comparison.  Now I can't blame Stradden for being a noob, but FF for being the most overhyped unorignal boring piece of schlock to get spewed out of the MMO stamper lately.   This certainly will be the next WoW killer just like WAR and Aion were, oh wait...

FFXIV is the anti-WoW in terms of gameplay.  A lot of us are looking exactly what FFXIV is offering.  If you want button mashing, twitch based gameplay, I would say 99% of the MMO's on the market offer that for you.  You won't be short on options.

At least for the rest of us that have a void, I think FFXIV will fill it.

lol ... yeah glad I had decided to pass on this one. I'll stick with the more action oriendted combat systems and games that require some strategy and tactics beyond the generic holy trinity lol. Fairly done with those for awhile.

No strategy or tactics needed. Get a healer, tank and some DPS. Healer keeps tank alive, tank keeps hate, everyone else kills. It got boring in FFXI and not ready to do another couple of years doing the same thing.  Time for games to evolve and start requiring some real tactics and strategy some look like they are FFXIV certainly isn't one of them.

To each there own, this is just my opinion on the matter.

All the alpha stuff shows you is that combat isn't just a case of pressing 1button over an over, which is what is possible in WoW PvE. Wait till release when you can see the final thing I think!
  • WaldoeWaldoe Member UncommonPosts: 642

LOL all you people saying omgggg worst combat video ever omggggg its soo slow. If you used your brain for a second and thought to yourself hmmmm maybe these people playing the game. Maybe It is there first time and they have no clue what they are doing.

That would add to this so called "slowmo" you are all crying about. Once you familiarize yourself with the controls and the moves I am sure it becomes much faster to sit there and say ok i want this move then this one then the next. These people are playing it for like 10-15 minutes just to freaking run around and see the game.

They are not going to sit there and read all the move details and stuff at that time.  You can do moves as fast as you want as long as your stamina bar or whatever it is called is not empty. It fills up much much faster than it did in alpha.

So think a little before you cry and complain. It is obvious that a large amount of people want a button spammer over a slightly more tactical game.

So your typical flashy mindnumbing western button masher? gotcha

    Meh action movies can be flashy and "oooo shiny fast colors"...that doesn't mean they are any good or hold any substance <_<;

And your comments here are just awfully mis-informed. I have to head to work right now other wise I could go through step by step why what you said basically just made me LOL out loud.

Maybe someone else will pick up the slack and explain. If not I will later.

Like you said though. To each their own.

Looks like this is going to turn into the same discution as the SWTOR combat videos. Really don't think you can say much on these few min videos and should wait untill these games  are closer to release to see a decent/solid combat video as I guess alot of polish is still missing.
