I'm not much of an RPer, but I'm starting to try and get into it in SL. I think I like the idea of it, more than the actual practice of it.
But, something that's always stumped me is why hardcore RPers would rather play some random MMO instead of something like Second Life or Blue Mars? The games completely lend themselves to RPers and the RPers can pretty much do whatever they want to do and they can RP in pretty much any setting they can think of.
In SL, you do have combat, you don't really have mobs, but there is PVP combat. (albeit not very good) But, if you're playing a game mainly for the RP aspect, why would you chose anything else?

As much as people always say otherwise, a lot of people like levels, like character progression, and enjoy killing mobs all day. That makes regular MMOs much more enjoyable then something like Second Life where that doesn't exist.
