Aion bombs: only 4 US servers left after massive server merge (EU 8 servers left)

AngryvilleAngryville Member Posts: 27

Server merges now show the max capacity went down from 320K to 120K within 9 months after launch...

It demonstrates 2 things: NCSoft will never  publish the real number of players this Korean had. And the fabricated internet rumours of so called 3.5 million players are painfully obvious.

Forget Xfire as being trustworthy, because it was clear at launch the guys behind NCSoft manipulated the samples with a few 1000 extra IP addresses running the Xfire engine. (game is even sold through Xfire now).

I bet NCSoft  will repeat the same trick with GW2 (they already experimented with GW1 if you would trace older Xfire data btw).

And they got followers; League of Legends (nowhere to be found in any sales parade is bombarded this way to top 5 game played on those Xfire stats. Does anyone of you think it is more played than CoD, please raise hands…

So … EVE never lost its second position in paid subscription based games in the first place with around 330 K subs.

It also shows people can’t be fooled into playing mediocre games despite the manipulation of the media and extreme hype (WOW killers).

A pity for those who believed the hype coming out of Korea. But I guess NCSoft didn’t care as long as they had your money.

Waiting for the next MMO from Blizzard.

Trying to make a WOW-ish game is suicidal, but at least you can fool some people some of the time.

    Why so angry?

Aion is a decent game, not playing it itself but doesn't mean i have to bash it.

Btw i smell Blizzard Fanboi, which means nothing good.

yes they have been wanting server mergers for awhile now on the aion forums.  I dont go there everyday but enough to know that on at least my server yustiel people have wanted mergers at the begining of the year even.  Aion I dont think, personlly has done worth shit in the Americas.  I mean just looking at how things have been with the game since launch, and even just weeks after launch.  I pritty sure its doing much much better then people realize in korea, even europe, and especially china where probubly most of the subscribers come from.

Even if we assume there is an average of 60K concurrent players online across all servers(you claim the servers can support up to 120K), they're probably going to have 3-4x that number of players total.

200-300k subscribers is a very healthy number is it not? Even 100-200 would be. Of course I just plucked these numbers out of my rear, much like your claim that the game is bombing.

I dont think Aion is bombing, its just lonely so it is gathering everyone up to form some kind of hippy group.

On a more serious note, just because a game is merging servers doesnt mean that its bombing. Could be the fact that they had too many servers to begin with.

You had to wait 3 hours to get in at launch...

Going from 14 to 4 servers in the US in 9 months was as bad as the server merges seen in WAR.

The game is clearly down to around 120 K in US/EU max capacity at the moment since 10K players per server is the standard of total players (of which 1/3 play concurrently).

League of Legends is a free game, so I doubt you'll find it any 'sales parades'. What a stupid argument.

Certainly my circle of friends plays LoL more actively than CoD, and you will find a game any time of the day.

A game is a fail not because of the sub numbers...

Its a fail when most of the subs are lost in 1 to 9 months time...like AOC when from 700k+ to 80k subs in 2 months, warhammer, aion etc etc...something is wrong when the majority of the players just quit in a small amount of time..afterall its an mmorpg, its suposed to have  months of gameplay, major updates and its suposed to improve....

Aion having a 10 month delay in patches and content over korea to the western market its pure fail and its showing.

Aion had 4 million subs at one time.
    .
I bet they at least have 2 million now. If it has 2 million that puts it at the number 2 MMO in the world I think.
    .
If NCSoft is publically owned will find out some time.

Whats your point OP, that you were right all along or something? That Aion isn't doing so well? Do you honestly think its subscribers care? I for one don't, I'm still enjoying the game, and that's all that matters [to me].

    Another one bites the dust.

    Go go Korean vaporware.

  • Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640

For Aion to have under 150k subs in NA/Euro is a massive failure considering the hype and how well recieved it was at launch.

The game has great graphics and a ton of really nice pve and pvp features, well put together classes. I could go on adn on.

The fact that people are leaving to the point of server mergers proves one thing. Players in the West are not fond of asian style mmos. its really that simple.

Oh and that 4 million sub number has always been bullshit. you have to be a complete moron to believe that shit.

I agree actually, shame the patches are delayed by so much.

    No, please stop posting nonsense.

League of Legends is completely free. The 'game' you listed is actually a points package, which you can use to buy items in the game. The game itself is absolutely free to play, and the only items you can't get without putting up some money are custom skins for the champions.

Please educate yourself before posting complete bullshit.

For anyone who actually knows, does this game have approximately 2 million subs in the West, or is that including Asia? I was under the impression that Aion was not doing too well these days in this part of the world.

Noone here cares about Asian numbers. Were talking NA/Euro (you know the servers that actually matter because those are the people we play with.

IN that category Eve kicks Aions and everyother p2p mmos ass besides WoW.

You can't even correctly count asian subs anyway because the way most play through smallish timecards through cyber cafe's. the numbers could be fudged too easily.

The last NC Soft report stated the income came 55% from Korea ... and the game already trailed behind the total of L1 + L2.

The 3.5 million subs were never confirmed by NCsoft. (source IGN).

And I just wanted to point out that ... only 4% (!) from NCsoft latest revenu came from China.(franchising servers over there).

Go and play the Chinese srvers these days: empty as hell.

League of Legends is the most popular game in my area. And no matter in which community I ask, there are always LoL players around.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Yes and it is free. And this guys is posting an Amazon link to the collector's pack, trying to state otherwise. Epic fail!

    .
Eve is barely over 300,000 subs. Everyone in that game has at least two accounts. Most have more than two accounts.
    .
Aion would have to lose an astronomical amount of subs to reach Eve's level.
    .
Not to mention Lineage 1 & 2 are still doing 1 million plus. Runescape at 1 million, etc.

Honestly you know jackity buck about EVE. I really don't understand why you have to throw in your 2 cents on topics you know nothing about.

As others have said we really don't care about Asian sub numbers, they are irrelevant here.

I only left because my group left and they didn't leave because they were unhappy with the game.

At launch a lot of our friends either couldn't buy it due to losing jobs or couldn't all get on the same server.

I never looked back at the game but I thought it would do better than this.

Runescape is F2p, L1 &L2 are doing nowhere near 1 million in NA/Euro they are only big in asian. Aions numbers are pulled from cyber cafe account timecards. A person that paid 25 cents for two hours in one month is counted so the numbers are complete bullshit.

Eve has over 330k accounts and rising fast!, according to CCP only 15-20% are alts like that matters anyway since alts pay.

Why do you post if you know nothing?

Badly researched opinion presented as fact on the internet!!!! *alarm bells, alarm bells, alarm bells"

Just to educate you my pigdog friend, League of Legends is a free to download game which has content that can be unlocked in 3 ways

ONE you can earn points playing matches to unlock champions and runes

TWO you can buy a different type of points with Real cash to unlock skins for champions runes champions them selves and XP/and game points boosts.

Three You can buy a copy of the game that gives other skins, and unlocks a bunch of champions.

Unsuprisingly the majority of people comibine options 1 and 2.  Also no sales chart I know of factors in digitial distribution models yet (steams numbers are famously ignored by most sales charts)
