You guys really hate alot, lol. But here we go, what game between EVE and WoW, Aion to enjoy?

LigerioLigerio Member Posts: 25

It's very hard to not find a topic that don't have "I hate" in it. Really.

People in this community seem so negative and bitter about their life or something.

But I'll give it a try - Anyone here really experienced both EVE Online and Aion and World of Warcraft?

Don't tell me why I shouldn't pick that game, tell me only about the game you think I should try. Thanks.

This way I escape all this hate talk that some of you are fond of :)

I don't believe it's possible to understand how a game is on a free trial.

You have to hear it from people with experience.

Come on, someone has to be able to be objective and share how fun one of this game can be?

    I'll play.

I think you should pick WoW because support will still be plentiful in a few years time and there will still be players to play with. But make sure you go to WoW with some friends.

I did play all 3, only WoW I kinda liked.

Support is important. So that game got support in-game and over phone? I hate when MMO games only give support thrue a form or e-mail.

Ya, they have a number you can phone. But I never needed to use it, in game support is pretty easy to use.

Oh how I wish they were EverQuest clones. A modern EverQuest would make me very happy. Obvously you've never played EverQuest or you wouldn't be saying that.

From my perspective, I think people are just bitter about the state their favorite genre is currently in.

Check out RIFT. Although a bit different, it kinda has the original EQ going for it without the suckness of current EQ.

Hope it's good, don't let me down again ><.

Aion if you enjoy PvP - Although realize that you will not be doing any type of PvP until around level 20 in the game.

WoW - If you're a PvE fanatic.  By far the best out of the three far as Pve content goes especially from a themepark perspective.  Really no contest far as WoW compared to the other two in this area.

Eve - If you're looking for a different themed mmorpg and prefer more of a sandbox feel and the potential for some rather 'intense' PvP with some rather serious consequences if you lose.  Also has the best community player wise out of the threee games.  Out of the three it also has the most in depth skill system but also takes hours to days to learn abilities in that game which depending on your game style might be a plus or negative.  Certainly is the most sandbox oriented and least linear out of the threee games too.

Frankly, I cannot stand this game due to the gameplay and I never have been real big on spaceship sci fi themed games but it does have areas that stand out and pending on your playstyle you might enjoy it.

Eve and WoW have free trials like another poster said so I would honestly try it out for yourself.  I'm not sure if Aion does.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Sorry, misunderstanding. I edited my post.

But it seem I'll have to try the free trial of WoW and EVE but I fear EVE by rumors of you have to use 24 days to learn a skill. And mining, people tell me it's very lineear :( Simple! You could watch TV :|

If customer support is important to you then stay the hell away from Aion.  Outside of Funcom's AoC, Aion was some of the worst customer service and support I have seen in an mmorpg.  Practically nonexistant really.

Although I personally haven't tried Aion (due to the fact that its apparently very grind intensive after level 35 ish), the above quote is quite accurate.

OP, you haven't actually given us any idea as to what your chosen playstyle is.  So it will be difficult to give you an accurate reply.

If I have to choose out of those three, I wouldn't pick Aion purely because I hate manga and really don't like it's appearance. EVE I've tried and, to be honest, unless you want to dedicate the next few years of your life to it, it's not worth bothering with. Skill training times just get ridiculous so it'll be 6 months before you're even decent enough to move into a nice ship. And then there really isn't a lot to do anyway, so you end up logging in just to start a skill training because you can't face another mission run or mining trip. Dull game!

So, as much as I dislike it, I'd point you at WoW. It's a very linear, designated path of quest grinding, type of game, but 11 million people somehow find it entertaining so chances are you might be one of them.

^^This EXCEPT, WoW can also be added as PvP just not in the sense of world PvP but arena and battlegrounds. Aion PvP on the other hand is a HUGE gank fest unfortunately which is expected by world pvp.

Of those three games EVE is a different beast than the other two, if you want something different than your used to playing play it. It is the kinda game that mimics real life desicions very well, you have to protect assets, insure what your not comfortable loosing, do some druge work in the beginning so you can have enough money to take a risk that can pay off big, or put you back in drudge work. Find a good corp, thats a must.

Wow...I like wow, Its the only game that I have played enough that I'm kinda burnt out on it, but me and my wife are going back for cataclysm to play it some more until we are burnt out again, what people say is true about the game, you get to level cap, run abunch of dungeons, get gear, start raiding, get more gear, or you get to level cap start pvping, get gear, and keep doing it to get even more gear. What the people who say this don't mention is until you get to the point your bored with it, its FUN. but you are doing the same thing over and over, so you WILL eventually get bored with it. make no mistake, there are other things to do though, daily quest, pet collecting, crafting, all of it is easy enough, I'd suggest playing it if you never have. Its the biggest online game in the world, try it if for no other reason you can say why you don't like it.

Aion, I really liked Aion, I really wanted to play it, but that was a lesson in customer support means somthing to me, I always thought that in a game CS didn't really matter too much, cause I never had to use it, but the bots, oh man, the bots. But the game itself was really good, it was grindy, but you get a few freinds together and just go kill stuff, you don't notice. Your jsut out having fun with your friends. The one thing I can say about the game to get you to go to it is its purdy, if thats enough to make you go great otherwise, go to one of the other two.

EVE: is non forgiving, steep learning curve and a true sandbox game, you need to socialize to get into the game otherwise you might feel lonely and isolated and fele the game is boring.....and you are never 100% safe from PVP if you are a carebear.

EVE: if you lose a ship+cargo it is gone, simple.

EVE: you can make a mark for yourself ingame, you can do whatever you want.

EVE: 1 servercluster where you can run into anyone subscribed to the game.

EVE: lag is gamebreaking when having huge fights (like > 700 ppl going at it)

WOW: themepark game, built on the grind for epic gear.

WOW: easy to play, low learning step, arcade style mmorpg and fun to play

    WOW: good lore

    WOW: different servers

As you can see, 2 total different games and I think you can't compare them.

Ligerio, first I'm curious what games either single player or MMO you've played in the past and enjoyed. Knowing this would help me to make an informed decision regarding which of those three you'd enjoy.

Personally from my own experience I've played EVE and WoW both for long periods of time now. Aion though I've never tried and at the moment don't really have any desire to do so (a number of WoW friends did try it though and all came back to WoW after a month or two). Sure Aion looks like a nice pretty game but honestly thats really all it appears to have going for it is some nice updated graphics over WoW.

If you're looking for a game that is still going strong, will continue going strong with a devoted community and a plethora of websites, utilities, and media tied to it I'd say go with WoW. Theres a reason a hundred and one games are called "WoW Clones", its because every modern day MMO copies WoW as much as possible in an effort to simulate the recipe for success that is Warcraft. Granted it is by no means a perfect game; but if you're looking for a standard fantasy-esque (I say esque as it incorporates steampunk, sci-fi, horror, etc. elements into it ) then Warcraft is by far the winner of the three you mentioned.

Now if what you want is something very open ended where you really have a massive chance to change your game world. Where you the player actually are important in the game world itself, where you do literally spend all of your time within your ship, and where death and choices have real consequences then I'd say go with EVE. Be warned though EVE is by no means every persons cup of tea as it does require a very specific mind set to enjoy. You will be dealing with a massive learning curve and at times a less than helpful community. Granted the WoW community isn't always the best but the learning curve also isn't nearly as steep so you can figure most things out on your own fairly quickly. To give you an idea of what the EVE learning curve can be like:

If you choose WoW please feel free to message me on these forums and I'll set you up with some starter gold. I currently play on Twisting Nether (RP-PvP) Horde side.

I can not speak to Aion, as I have not tried it.

But the difference beetween WoW and EVE is so huge it is like asking "should I be Gay or Straight?"

No one can answer that for you.

The upside is that with games you can try both, ( well you can with sexual preference to, but that seems like a bad idea ).

I like them both, for different reasons, ( the games that is ).

I have a movie analogy I use from time to time.

Sometimes you want in your face comedy like jim Carey in the pet detective, wich is a lot of fun.

Sometimes you want more subtle humour like the Cohens "the Big lebowski", wich is also a lot of fun, but in a different way.

So to try to answer your question I would like to pose another one.

What other kind of entertainment do you like?

I guess I like a MMO that could be as Fable, you have a avatar that you play and can dress (armor, etc).

Like to have alot of "social" aspects in the game. Not from other players, but like content such as vanity things, even possibility to have your own home.

Some kind of game that will give you the sense your in this huge world that isn't flat but have a history with mountains, desert, ruins where you can explore and like...

And to have your avatars to look original, not flat 3d plain simple avatar. But some kind of origninality to them.

Some avatar creating system don't have no limit so it just becomes redicilous :

Some kind of action adventure game with social aspects like, yea. A house would be cool, place to be yours. Whatever things like that :) A pony! Yes!
