The Diego-based massively multiplayer, online gaming developer Sony Online Entertainment reports today that it has just reached 12 million registered users for its title Free Realms. Free Realms is a family-friendly virtual world focused on "quests, activities and minigames". The firm said that the milestone was reached as part of the kickoff of a "virtual summer camp" effort which features virtual versions of a number of traditional summer activities, including going to the beach and camp. Sony Online Entertainment is the developer of a number of online games, including EverQuest and Legends of Norrath. ENDQUOTE

 

And more then 11.5 million play for free!  Genius!

It's built for tweens more than anything.  Sony's working to get them young and hope to keep them on the Sony MMO treadmill.

Well it says registered accounts. Hell I may have an account there too. That's the thing with f2p mmos. Peoples create an account play for 2 hours and never login again. They are part of the 12 million players in free realms though.
