After a week of downloading the game through their slow torrent patcher and figuring out that I need to update my Direct X (even though I had Direct X 11 installed) I started the game and tried to create a character.
After about 15 minutes of picking, lineage and customizing my appereance I reached the final screen and selected a starting city and pressed start and then...... nothing. No error message, nothing. So I tried different options, different starting cities and after several minutes of trying to get the game to start (and getting no error messages) I clicked exit and was then promptly thrown back to the character select screen with my character nowhere to be seen.
Sorry but I am just as fed up with themepark games as the rest of you but this game is not the answer, it's a joke. A bad one.
At the very most this game is an experiment in creating an MMOG but nowhere near the quality of a commercial game.

I've had that happen once before - it was because the server was down for about 5 minutes, but it happened that I was pressing that button to enter the world during that time, so it didn't work.
The game has some bugs and rough edges, but it is definitely playable and fun, in my opinion.

Aye, you walked into a server crash, sorry.
If you give it another shot you might like it though (the game, not the server crashes). And personally, I believe the game was well worth the money, so that seems to fit the definition of being 'commercial quality'.
Yeah will give it another try when I feel like going through re-creating my character again. Got a cool, mean look on him too but all gone now...

What race and type of character were you planning on making?
I've got a Kallard, and a Thursar/Khurite at the moment. Trying to figure out what to do with that last slot: going to be a crafter, but I'm not sure on the race/bloodline yet.

Maybe you should wait trying MO after the next patch have arrived next week,. We get the patch notes early next week. Will fix lots of things, balance things up and add more content and some feats.
That is an important decision Yamoto has to make. Me myself, have one pure melee and one crafter (armor) and the last slot I have saved to later (I haven't decide yet what to do ranger/thief/mage or some hybrid).
Very good suggestion. The patch that should be hitting around Tuesday is supposed to make some adjustments to character stats. Not sure exactly what those changes are, at the moment, but it sounds like they are supposed to be increasing the relevance of some or all of them.
Of course, for example, if you're going melee, things like STR, CON, and DEX are probably always going to be important.

Back in OB I had a Tindreme (sp?) crafter, which worked out pretty well when it came to catching thieves (who for a period of time hung out at the crafting tables a lot). They have decent strength too, (for carrying mats, etc). If you're thinking of going the slag hauler route a blaine's a good choice too (slower, but can carry a lot more and I think has a slightly higher int cap). Then again, there's gonna be a rebalance soon, but I'm guessing that'll just focus on the thur/khur mix and probably tweak constitution's affect on speed. *shrugs*
on topic: I wish I could make decent-looking characters... all my guys come out looking a bit...slow. Hopefully you can pull it off again if you decide to try.
Tbh this game isn't of commercial quality and thats other than the frequent downtimes. I hear they're going to patch it and make it better, but you can't turn a turd of a game into a shiny apple by polishing it.
My reasons for disliking this game and the shady-like business model with this game are as follows:
1.) It wasn't complete on release. Ya it's an MMORPG, it will get more added to it, but come on how many games that are "released as finished product" don't have a description of the spells.....I mean seriously somebody at Starvault take the day and put the descriptions in, you'll have plenty of time to go out to lunch with the buds.
2.) It's not uncommon for games to have frequent downtimes at launch or when they're getting full, Eve Online is known for that (great game btw) but they let they're customers know via log-in screen when they can expect the server to come back online so people can do something other than sitting around their computer waiting for the server to come up.
3.) PvP needs some serious balancing (yes I hear they'll fix it), but they need to implement something that doesn't fully reward the guy that killed you. Again the Eve Online "idea", make your gear lose like 90% durability (or destroyed) and maybe one or two pieces of gear are in perfect durability as spoils of war. Also it would help people if there was a better way for noobies to not take a gigantic loss (Eve Online: Tier 1 ships are insured vs. better Tier 2).
4.) The shady-business model....this one is a great topic. First, most companies when they sell a product they guarantee a level of performance and yes they won't refund you if you don't care for it, but when the company sells a product that isn't finished whether it's car brakes or the Easter ham that didn't get cured right (or all the way) or the package wrap isn't sealed, thats grounds for returning the product. Instead Starvault, puts an unfinished product out with confetti in the air and people that were excited buy the game only to find out it isn't done. Tbh if their shareholders forced the devs to release this game in it's current state, I feel for the devs.
The worst part is, instead of the company sucking it up and giving that month free or refunding it's unsatisfied customers, it says too bad, deletes posts, bans people, and tries to hold onto the dollars and euros they have, because they know that in order for this game to be successful they should have to hit a certain mile-marker with sales and they've fallen much shorter than they had their worst-case scenario. Any gamer that has owned their own company or worked in the financial industry knows this game is struggling and the companies doing it's best at "damage-control".
Anyways, for the fans of Mortal Online I'm glad you can appreciate this game, I just can't seem to get into this game. Everybody entitled to their own views, so keep enjoying MO if you do, but this is my view.
Btw take the quick poll below as well:

I have to say, this is the most incomplete and broken game I have ever played. They cant even get descriptions on the books. I don't know if they don't care or what... It is pretty sad, this had so much potential yet it is going to fail in the long run as the devs are incompetent and inexperienced.
Really? Can't even put descriptions on the books that you buy from the librarian?
This game won't even have a long run... it is complete dog sh*t, and has been ever since alpha errrrrrrr I mean beta. They absolutely screwed part of their customer base with the pre-order crap, and proved they are amateurs in the gaming arena.
Took me 6 hours to DL the torrents took about 15 to install the extra patches......I was playing the same day I bought the game....
Now if I would of used MO patcher It would of took 8-10 hours.....now thats not broken it just takes longer.

Downloading the patches using a torrent client (ex. utorrent) is unacceptable. Why do people have to go around to using another software when Mortal Online is a "released" product yet their patcher is pathetic and it takes 2 days to download the patches through it?
How do you accept that? I never will, it is pathetic for SV to release it with a patcher that bad.
Agreed. In short, constant down-time, no active communication through the launcher, absolutely no in-game information, tool-tips, descriptions on armor, weapons, spells, equipment; No PvE wildlife, weapon imbalances, bugs such as horse exploding near water and still getting stuck in terrain, etc. Along with that, it seems SV purposely made the grindiest game in the market with the largest breadth of useless recipes.
Seems like nothing more than a Darkfall grind-to-guildwarfare game all over again. Not a bad thing, but I did that already for a year, and doing it in First-Person View is far worse. First-Person View does nothing more than detract from immersion and detach me from my character and its interaction in-game-play with the environment, other players, and the world as a whole.
The patcher downloaded the entire game in about 6 hours for me. [Mod Edit]
So the majority of the players saying it took them days to download the game is false? And what fraud?
What that I have to wait another few hours for the game is unacceptable if I use the MO patcher? I think not but nice try
Its not unacceptable to use torrents now, its mainstream now,get with the times

Why do we have to install another program to download the game when it has its own patcher?
You don't have too, but you will wait longer till they fix it......idk what you want me to say man, I don't feel bad cause you have to wait a few hours.

You repeatedly buying products than trying to get your money back after using them. Your thread got deleted, but I'm glad to see you're still on your feet.
...and posting with a vengence. Good to see MO continues to enrapture your attention.

Yep the game is a bad joke... couldn't agree more
I wrote this game off long ago, preordered it in December, played for a few days then quit due to incompleteness. Played Open Beta for about 20 mins and very little improvement. I am yet to play the release, and probably wont for about a year if I do at all because the game is a complete waste of time. My confidence in SV is extremely low.
Definitely not commercial quality. Even the fanboys spend more time defending it than actually playing it.
