So...how will the melee combat be? Actually, most MMORPGs p2p and f2p center around 3 combat styles (which can actually be decided on how melee combat works):
Target-based, stand and watch (most known through Lineage II and it is the oldest of the 3, where basically you can't move while attacking). Only school kids and caveman people would develop an MMORPG with this combat nowadays).
Target-based, free movement (you can move around while doing abilities on melee combat, also when you press an ability your character doesn't run on the enemy like Aion and L2 but rather you have to be on the range to do it, WoW is popular for using this).
Aim-based, which is -as some call- the next generation of gaming, used by games like Darkfall and Mortal Online, but I believe TERA is mostly known for adapting this style, a game not released yet.
Does SWTOR use 1 of these?

Sticky-targeting, aoe, centered attacks. With polished fight styles.

It does this, more so than WoW does. At least the current Alpha you can use abilities while moving (and there are tons of abilities in WoW that can't be used while moving).
It's not going with a Holy Trinity combat system either.
I'm sure the combat will be something innovative, and differ from some things we've seen in the past. Bioware is putting this out as what they feel a MMORPG should be.
The combat system is exactly as we know it from games like WoW and WAR. point and click targeting, global cooldown and wasd controls. more powerful abilities have longer cooldowns. some instant abilities, others with cast time, some channeled. look at gameplay footage and impressions from those who've played it. its just like you expect from traditional mmo.
odd one out is the smuggler/ia mirror classes which can take cover in environment to gain defensive bonuses. this works a bit as a stance as you open up some new abilities while in cover.

you can see hotbar light up when gcd is on etc. think the blue icon on the left is his basic attack as you see the player constantly spam the key. maybe this should be an auto attack so you dont have to spam so much - i didnt like the ability spam in WAR.
No auto-attack and the regular attack is you RMB. The regular attack causes a global cooldown of all abilities. So it will add some to the tactics. But nothing ground breaking. I need to see more of the high level skills before I can tell how combat will be in TOR.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?
