Are higher level characters really stronger than low level?

The defenders of the timebased aspect of Eve always say a newbie can compete with a vet on a level playing field. Of course, you have to pick the playing field, and make it a one off match ;)

On the OP's point, it's true, but if you think about it too much you'll end up quitting MMOs entirely. In fact, I'm feeling less inclined already.

This is kind of like a thread that was put out for the sake of creating a thread, and it seems like the topic was thought of afterwards.  Obviously a level 50 is stronger, are you dumb?  Yeah, I could beat the crap out of two five little kids but to take on Brock Lesnar I'd probably need two guys with me at least, maybe more.

this is how the game mechanics are, it would be sorta boring if i could solo with EASE 10 man raids at level 80..

I think some people here ar ekind of missing the point he was trying to make, which in the majority of game si agree with, though there are some game sthat don't follow the trend.

Think about it, when youre level 1, you're essentially some nobody who happened to pick up a sword/staff/bow/spellbook and are just learning to use it. Though you may have some natural skill with it, you don't know all of its strengths and weaknesses, or how to use it properly against different types of enemies. At low levels, it would make sense for you to BARELY survive through battles, even against something as simple as the local wildlife. How many of us without any form of proper training IRL would be able to simply pick up a sword and fend off a pack of rabid wolves or an angry giant bear and come through it unharmed? Would most of us be aggressive enough to charge in and make a quick decisive battle of it rather than trying to hold our ground and hope the enemy gives up and leaves? Would most of us even know the best place to strike at the enemy while not leaving ourselves open to attack/counterattack?

On the other hand, when you look at a high level character, this should be equivalent to someone who has spent years training with their weapon/fighting style/magic of choice and has mastered it, knows all the fine details of combat, knows how to watch and learn from their enemy and use their attacks to the highest efficiency. Add to that the variety of spells/special skills that you can use as well. Put in a master swordsman who has spent 10-20 years training vigorously against a  pack of wolves, or a bear, or any foe in a life / death situation and they're going to not only have a much better chance of coming through unharmed, but will likely end the battle in a few moments with a quick strike or 2 at a crucial organ / limb and not leave themselves open for any sort of attack in return.

Yet in MMORPGs it tends to be nearly the complete opposite. Low level players just run around killing everything, wether it be "stupid" animals or human foes (which strangely enough are also usually bandits or some form of criminal who have spent years fighting) with little risk to themselves and can take the enemies out usually with a few blows. Meanwhile the high level players are constantly at risk of getting their asses handed to them by every enemy, wetehr it be human or animal, if they make 1 or 2 mistakes, and also tend to be stuck in long drawn out battles that require using certain skills over and over and over until the enemy finally dies, while also takign a massive beating from the foe and requiring healers just to stay alive.

I realize reversing this order to match the way things would be IRL would not make sense to or appeal to some people when used in an MMORPG due to what they consider "progression", but then again how much progression are you even getting when the stronger you get, the tougher it gets to kill anything of equal strength to you? It would really make more sense to me for low level players to have a very hard time even in 1 v1 battles, while high level players can take on many enemies at once with an occasional tough 1 v 1 battle vs some super powered boss monster or equally skilled humanoid enemy. As I said in the beggining, some games actually do these things quite well, but the more common trend is to make you appear less of a hero the further along you go in the game since every enemy can kick your highly skilled, legendary weapon wielding, master smith armored ass.
