Lose? Numbers of players don't make a winner or loser, the quality of the game does. WoW will beat EQII nimbers wise for the first few months, however let's see what the attrition rate is. EQII will have churn also, some will move from EQII to WoW some will drop WoW for EQII.
Oh and as long as there are good games for us to enjoy, we are all the winners.
Blizzard has a much larger fanbase then SOE.... warcraft 3 makes eq1 + eq2 look small, and not to mention the gargantuon starcraft.... although im dissapointed... blizzard has never rushed a game before... thought they were better then that/..... I wasnt suprised with sony though

I was not at all surprised by WoW's ..err less than perfect launch. it is their first MMORPG so they arwe really kinda noobs in that genere. Also you figure their parent company was pushing them to get the game out the door. Money talks etc etc.
However SOE really did surprise me with EQII. I never in the world expected them to have a smooth launch, let alone a content filled bug free game. They even managed to get the character balance right for a change. Never thought they had it in them after SWG and Planetside.
I was not surprised about the numbers. More than 3/4 of the pop of WoW surely are Warcraft fans. I am sure that eventually people will finalize what they think about both game. Personally I don't think that WoW has much staying power but we will see.

I agree that WoW won't have a ton of staying power. At first I was pretty impressed with WoW but it got stale quite quick. I've been playing EQ2 since about launch day and I don't get that feeling of boredom at all. When it comes down to it I think Eq2's lifespan will be considerably longer but who knows, I could be wrong.

Since Blizard games have until now been "no-charge" it is hardly suprising the player base is bigger. Lets see what a 15$ subscription does to the relative player base sizes.
Wow will be bigger than EQ 2. But I expect to spend the next years in EQ 2, its like comparing Diablo 2 to Neverwinter Nights, 2 great games but for different people. WoW is easier and will have more mass appeal. I am suscribed to both and am having fun in WoW, but making long term plans for EQ 2.
