It would have been a killer space combat game. I always thought some one would come out with one but I've never heard a peep about anyone developing one.
The space combat in that show was great. I've played the board game version. anyone know why a major publisher has never tried to do this? I'd plunk down 49.99 for a chance to smash up a centari fleet with a few minbari heavy cruisers.

After seeing some big franchise named mmos come out that have been absolute crap I would be highly skeptical of another one. Even if it is from a franchise I liked.
I'd buy and play it, if it was GOOD!
F2P/P2P excellent thread.

I think it'd be a great setting for an MMO, and I'd likely buy it.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
I guess it would be a simple generic space game, I just wish they did another freespace or something like it.... ah the good old times...
Freelancer.
OMG!!!! I loved Babylon 5!!!!
Best show ever!
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
Although B5 is probably one of my all time favourite series, I don't think it would translate well into an MMO. Yes the combat would probably be nice (like BP or JGE) but when you look at it, the series mostly centred around the station itself for obvious reasons.
So, unless the environment of such a B5 MMO was expanded upon, it has very limited scope. And when you expand into "uncharted territory" in an IP, that's when differences of opinion begin as to how it should be created.

How about a sandboxy Firefly MMO?
Loved the show. I am not really sure how well it would fit as mmo game. But if one would be make and it would be even a decent game I would play it for sure.

Retired from: GW, WAR, Aion, LOTRO, Rift, SW:TOR, Vinductus
Solid show, but an MMO based off of it would have to include some really engaging mechanics for diplomacy as well, because it was such an important part of the show.
Oddly enough, I think THAT could translate into an MMO. Everyone with their own battered ships cobbled together from crafting and scavenged parts. Thus implying a crafting and economic synergy. NPC enemy factions (the Alliance and Reevers). Different planets to visit. Assignments to do illegal trade runs, etc, etc.
A Firefly MMO COULD actually work. And it was kinda being looking into. But those who were investigating it (Multiverse) put the idea on hold and instead starting looking at a Buffy the Vampire MMO (yes, its ok to roll your eyes at that, I did too).

Hey, they seem to be really sticking with Whedon there - next thing you know, they're going to announce a Dollhouse MMO!
And yeah, Firefly IP is just perfect for an MMO: It has exploration, self-sufficient small units with loads of potential for trade, crafting, combat, theft, and even corporate espionage.
Plus we could at last have a meaningful chat filter where you can swear to your heart's content and the game would translate it into Chinese!!!
I always found that amusing that they managed to put swearing into such a series by making the characters say it in a different language. I suppose they weren't banking on the Chinese watching it anytime. XD
Unlike B5, Firefly's scenes were often a more balanced mix of the interior of the ship and ground based, and the premise is more flexible than B5's. A Firefly MMO does conjour up images of Elite / X3 style space gameplay with the possibility of land based gamplay later on too.
Which seems to be what a lot of people are looking for these days: something different, perhaps sci-fi / steampunk / apocalypsed based, with a greater gamplay complexity than what we've been seeing in the last 6 years.

This has been brought up before, and so it may prove that there is definate fan and mmnorgp gamer interest in seeing this come to fruition. I for one would like to see this happen.
Here's the thread I started on this a while a go.

Actually I can answer that for you... one was in development with Sierra and they canned it and refused to sell the work and rights to anyone else. So... blame it all on Sierra for lousing that one up. It would have made a phenomenal game or MMO and I would still pay good money for one.
If you google around you may be able to find some work that Christopher Franke did on the score for it. A theme for it was floating around years ago. The game was to have dynamic music like some games have now where the music would swell or fade depending on the action on screen.
Sad sad sad this was never produced.
For that matter, I still want my Telepath War movie thank you very much.
I've been re-watching the B5 series recently as a matter of fact and ... it looks a bit dated atfer 17 years but the writing is still superior to most everything else out there and The Coming of Shadows is still one of the best hours of television ever produced. (sorry Losties)
There is a fan-made Babylon 5 game called "I've Found Her." I played it before and it was pretty good.
