You keep supporting the little schemes these companies have to nickel and dime the people they depend on. Like I said though, only FOOLS would think its a good idea.
Throwing the word "fool" around doesn't make your argument any less ignorant.
How is a company "nickel and diming" when *you don't need more than one character to play the game*? You can do 100% of the content in the game *on the same character*. What part of that is unclear to you?
Nickel and diming would be requiring you to have additional characters to engage in parts of the content, or to play different classes, and then charging you for them. FFXI doesn't work that way. FFXIV won't work that way.
You're speaking 100% out of short-sighted ignorance. Period. End of discussion.
Its not a debate, its plain laziness on the part of the dev's. Defend it if you must, but I expect a little more for my money. Then again I have to work for it, so maybe we see things a little differently
It's opinion, and one that's both irrelevant to this thread, and has been beaten and debated to death, many times over. Yes, it is a debate.
I do find it funny that, for a game you supposedly "couldn't care less about", you bring up a topic completely out-of-place in this thread, and that you're obviously quite irritated about.
I don't know about you, but if I "couldn't care less about a game", I really couldn't care less about how its pricing is set up, whether it has jumping or not, how many classes it has or anything else. I typically don't spend time reading or posting threads in forums about games I "couldn't care less about". I'm certainly not moved to throw around pointless insults at people who disagree with me over a game I "couldn't care less about".
All things considered, I'd say you care more about this game than you claim.
Unless you really don't care and are simply here to troll?
IMHO if you spend money on this game, you are contributing to the de evolution of the genre, and the greed of the asians.
Holy crap... how bigotted can you be? The "greed of the asians"? Seriously. If your post is any indication, you won't be playing FFXIV, and the game will be that much better for it.
Ohh I definetley wont be playing it, it regardless it will still suck, unless your a hormonal fan girl such as yourself. Joking aside, one only needs to look at F2P games to see that they truly are not F2P, infact most asian games wind up costing more than the average subscription model .
Juvenile insults do not make your opinions any more right, nor do they make you look clever.
You won't be playing. Excellent news. Thank you for confirming it.
That said, who's talking about F2P MMOs? What the hell are you talking about? Last I checked we were talking about FFXIV - a pay-to-play game, not a F2P MMO. Can you at least try to focus on the actual topic, and stop going off on side-rants? Incidentally, I don't like F2P/Cash Shop MMOs either, but there are plenty of F2P-related threads to have that discussion.
I really could care less about this game, it just entertains me to see the way people like you react to others opinions of a stupid game.
Of course you don't. I read threads and post rants about games I "couldn't care less about" all the time, too. Naturally.
I myself think the industry should be trying to take the genre to the next level in order to get my hard earned money, people like you are still smoking schwag from the 60's and are perfectly content with it, in fact so much so that you stand in disbelief of anyone who has the audacity to question why.
Again, juvenile insults and ignorant presumptions do not make your opinions any more right, nor do they make you look clever.
I don't question why it's set up that way because I understand the setup and I understand why it's not a big deal, nor is it a problem. Because, as I've explained, FFXI nor FFXIV are set up like other MMOs where you need Alts to level alternate classes, or crafts.
You can experience 100% of the game on a single character. Extra characters are 100% optional. They're not a necessity. And again, for 1 main character and 1 "retainer character" you are paying upward of $3 less per month than a standard MMO sub fee. Basic math. It works.
"If you just step away for a sec you will clearly see all the pot holes in the road, and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
It makes me sad to see so many people up in arms against this game. FFXI had a heavy Asian influence, which contributed to it's grindiness. But the game offered a sense of accomplishment. I remember playing FFXI and when you walked around in your AF armor, it was a real bragging right. You either had great friends, a large well rounded linkshell, or a lot of patience. They were not easy, but they said something about your character.
FFXI never did anything to anyone other than provide a high quality game (for its time) to players. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't horrible in the slightest sense of the word.
FFXIV has a high budget, world reknowned designers, extremely experienced teams, and a good track record for producing successful and original gameplay. It is nothing to cry about. If you don't like it you don't like it, simple as that. Stiring up the fan base isn't a flaw in the game, but a flaw in the trolling individuals personality. It's a Bully type trait and their opinion says nothing about the game really, but is intended only to stir up the nest of dedicated fans and get reactions.
We as FFXIV Fans should spend less time attacking these trolls and fueling their fire, and more time spreading the good of the game. FFXI was a GOOD game. It pre-dates wow, catered to an expansive audience, and offered a great deal of fun and enjoyable time to millions. I could share hundreds memories I spent in FFXI that were grand, some frustrating, but the frustration in a sick and twisted way made the rewards just that much sweeter.
I have very high hopes for FFXIV and anyone who attacks it over trivial things such as the ability to jump, have the wrong mentality. MMOs are not Customer Services, they are Entertainment Opportunities. They do not cater to YOU the way a sales clerk or waiter would. They will not accomodate YOUR needs and interests and what YOU feel is important. Not adding jumping isn't lazy, it's simply not needed. End of story. Not every resaurant serves a cherry on top of vanilla ice cream. It's an extremely popular flair and LOTS of places do it. But why doesn't everyone do it? Because its simply not necessary. Jumping is more than just code. It incorporates animations. Animations require even more programming and time. then on top of that you have to re-evaluate all the zone boundaries. We can't walk past line X but can you jump over it? It's not a simple point and click sort of thing. Why spend money developing a feature that isn't needed? Hell why would you RATHER spend your money on things you don't need, and cry when they choose to spend their time on more important issues... THAT is an interesting question.
Anywho I'm genuinely excited and no amount of trolling will make me feel otherwise.
By damaging or destroying a monster’s body parts or an enemy’s weapon during battle, a few things can happen. In some cases, they will be unable to use certain special attacks, the number of items dropped will increase, or the drop rate for certain items will increase.

I'll just leave this here...
Ohhh that's in this and that crappy game already!! LOL love those comebacks.
XI was originally $21.99 a month then $1.00 for each additional content ID. Usually you would need at least 3 mules, 1 to set up shop and 2 to hold all of your old gear for when you started lvling other jobs on your main. I think the $12.99 a month and $3.00 per extra playable is very reasonable in comparison, at least they are giving a free slot for a non playable mule.
......come to think of it I don't remember ever lvling any of the alts I made on XI, I only ever used them to set up shop or swap gear.

Again as your compatriot so lovingly pointed out: that's nothing new. Show me features that are actually moving the industry forward and not just a rehash of what I have been playing for years. Then I might be interested in playing. Again, I am not trying to go back and forth. If this game provides what you want I am happy for you. You get to play a slightly different FFXI all over again. I am not saying FFXIV will suck, fail, or no one will play it. I am simply stating why I won't be playing. You don't need to try and convince me otherwise I have researched the title and come to my own conclusions. I certainly would never listen to fanbois when it comes to any product. I hope that FFXIV blows your mind and is the greatest game you ever played. It's just not for me.
I am glad you love those comebacks. I love that you can't come up with anything innovative that SE has implemented in their game so you have to resort to LOLing at your detractors. I am sure all the other FFXIV fanbois are high-fiving you for that one.
You're right, I had my main and 3 mules, one in each nation specifically for shoping and storage.
So i don't think it's unreasonable to pay $12.99 + $3 for my mules... instead of forcing me to pay $3 each like everyone when I wouldn't use it. See... they kept their audience in mind here I feel.
So what is so bad about taking the best of MMOs throughout history and put them into one place? There is no game that has the combination of features that FFXII brings, and by that definition alone it is a brand new entity worht atleast giving a try. You keep naming these obscure MMOs that 95% of us have never played to deter a feature that sounds awesome like LVLing multiple classes on one toon and hindering certain Boss body parts to reap certain rewards or match criteria that is necessary for the kill. The simple fact of the matter is no where have I seen one game combine such a wide array of different ideas and in that way it seems very fresh.
Now if you truly make MMO games your life, you will get jaded very quickly. Thankfully most of us do not do that.
I am sick of all these people asking why it costs extra to make alts, the fact of the matter is, this is how they run their system. All the fans of the series enjoy the way they worked it and have been loyal to the system through the years. Why should you pay extra for more characters? because your paying less to begin with, and the demand for more than one character is lower. The final fantasy team believes in core progression of a main character more than alt management as it lowers the number of names used on the server and keeps the overall server closer nit. In a sad note if something that small would make someone avoid the game entirely then they arent meant to play. Also this controls people playing on the same account and overall gains money for the company, therefore progressing the game for the loyal people who play.
All in all, this is how they run it, i understand we have these forums to discuss ones gripes with games and to have the companies fix them, but this is such a small thing that it shouldnt even be a problem. Sure they may not have free alts like other games, but others game dont have a class system like this

I am going to point out exactly what your doing, your a person, knows what they want, says they dont care about the game, yet takes the time to go on the site and state why they wont, if the game matters so little to you and no changing it would help, then dont give us your input, we dont care if your not going to play, the fact of the matter is, innovation is what you make of it, this is innovation, we asked for Final Fantasy 11 brought to a new age, we got it, we are happy with that, innovation is here in the way that our demand wanted, this is not your game, so leave it be, dont troll our thread just because you "care so little" about the game. Guild wars 2 is not innovative, I have been following the game myself, they are just giving some old content new names, and rehashing it, just like everyone else does, accept it, but atleast im not on gw2 posts saying why i wont play because i respect its players enough to let them have their place in the gaming world.

I pre-ordered my CE version, but do you guys think Steam will get it??
I think we'll see it eventually, as SE does seem to like how Steam runs, handles their games (security mainly) and distributes their games.
I have no problem with keeping just one main character. MMORPGs is about connecting with your avatar. SEs goal with XIV is to have players experience the game by growing their characters to their tastes and preferences. Always hopping from one toon to the other in WoW never really struck me. With XIVs system, there really is no reason to.
Paying a sub to a game that only allows one character for that price is absurd in my book. Yeah you can add more for $3 each, but that seems to me like taking advantage of your playerbase. One reason I never played the first game even though I had good friends that did.
It makes this game a niche game because people like to play alts. So if they want to make a second rate game that is their choice, but it will never be that popular with this restriction.
Man do I HAVE to play it on PC now? I GOT A NEW HD TV!! NOOOO LoL did not expect that!
There will be a ps3 on ebay soon I guess.
Well you can connect you pc to the hd tv, plug the controller and you're done. Unless your pc sucks then yeah it's bad news for you.
Well yeah but then I cannot use my pc anymore for other stuff while playing. Or a lot less. There is a reason to own a PS3.
Or at least I thought there was..
edit: also; playstation buddy lists ... most of them own shitty pc's mine could handle ffxiv i guess.. anyway.. blergh always an anwser for sh*t that shouldn't 't fly

u dont need alts here, since your character is able to be all classes in game just switching the weapon .. thus no need to alter here, and they give you for free a "storage char"
why? u will be able to play with your "pc-account-chars" in your ps3 once released, u will be able to login with pc account in ps3 system
and ps3 has a lot of games besides FFXIV for not putting it into sale
