It just amazes me that WoW subscribers can be satisfied with such meagre content patches and expansions. I'll bet players are able to hit level cap in about 24 hrs and start doing dungeon raids to get yet another tier armour set. That's really all there is to WoW bar buying expensive ponies from the Blizzard cash shop. Surely the McDonalds of MMO, no complexity or taste in what they are selling to the world.
World of Warcraft has done nothing but improve since 2004. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, and no game ever will be, but it's hard to deny the improvements this game has gone through.
and that would be YOUR "opinion".. I and others don't see it that way.. The decline of class defining skills and abilities, the total lack of sandbox features such as player and guild housing.. No new starter classes in almost 6 years.. PvP decreasing each and ever year.. focusing on "raid" grinding.. I'm sorry, but I don't see these things as "nothing but improvements"..
good luck tho, as I will move on to find a game that offers more then grinding 1 raid dungeon at a time..

True.. but if you are raised on McD's food, how do you know what is better? Don't get me wrong, there are times I prefer McDs, because of time and location, but I prefer more and generally demand more.. hense "Lonestar Steak House" or similar.. LOL Problem is that the Lonestars of the mmo cost more to run and cost more to buy, therefor some people just won't support it..

I realise you used "if" , but don't you think you're being a little presumptuous in assuming that a lot of players play WoW because they don't know any better?
They aren't all sheep. In fact many listen to their friends, and if an MMO comes out that their friends recommend then they MAY try it. But in the end many stick with WoW because it has more of what they require, compared to other MMO's. And lets face it, no other MMO's have come close to matching the WoW standard (even though that standard is relatively low).
However, the day that an MMO launches that matches (or even surpasses) that standard, is the day that WoW has a TRUE competitor. That day MAY be coming soon. We don't know for sure yet.

When I asked guildies or random people i meet in groups what other mmos they played the most common response was "Whats an MMO?" second being "I don't play MMOs, I play WoW".

Considering that you have no way to provide evidence that you've witnessed people saying this, just as I have no way to dispute it, lets just refrain from pulling wild and unsubstantiated "quotes" out of the air shall we

But those out of the air quotes are believable, as I think a sizeable population in WoW have no experience of any other mmorpg and when they do attempt another game expect it to be WoW-like. I think WoW gives a very limited gaming experience as new players just level up as fast as possible to hit cap, and then hit the dudgeons and start gearing up into ten tier set culture that game has. It's a shame as when the next gen mmorpgs start to hit there will be a WoW-tard quotient in their starting communities that will prove irritating to those who don't enjoy the fast food gaming experience.
WoW is just as popular as it has always been, its almost 6 years old can't we just accept people enjoy WoW, why do we need to come up with negative excuses for the reason people play wow, they enjoy it, they don’t have to have played 5 other MMO's before their opinion of the game becomes valid, they don’t need to know it's an MMO or that other MMO's exist before their opinions are counted.
People like playing, all the be-litting and hate filled comments about WoW players, WoW content and expansions does not change the fact that WoW is the most popular P2P game on the planet and has been for 6 years. And the reason... its fun and becuase it fun people talk about, people recommend it to friends and people leave to and return after trying other games that they just don't like as much.
WoW didn't have 11 millions subs 24 hours after it launched, WoW built up those numbers, if WoW is this awful shallow game people would not play it. EQ2 launched at around the same time with a ready made MMO community waiting but look what happened.... WoW at best had a RTS community waiting yet wow converted more RTS players to MMO than EQ2 convinced their MMO players to switch to the new improved EQ... that fact alone speaks volumes.
As to the McDonald comments.. if wow is MacDonald’s then all other MMO's must be half eaten left overs found in dumpsters after MacDonald’s closes, WoW is the highest rated MMO across all publications and player numbers also support this. So the whole Quantity does not equal Quality argument does not work with WoW on any level.
I enjoy WoW after all this time. But with each expansion I worry. I played EQ for 5 years and after PoP it started going down. It was always a game that you had to group after a certain level and to get good gear and such you had to raid. Nothing for the casual player and as the expansions came out they were more and more for the hardcore peeps that could devote all that time to raid and group. Sadly finding a group took hours sometimes.
So far WoW has not went to that extreme and have made it possible to get groups without spending hours doing so. Pug Raids are always going on. Yea sometimes they are fail but if you learn the peeps on the server you can find good ones.
This is going to be a really big change in WoW this time. I do hope that all the changes are not going to be the beginning of a downward spiral. There are some that are going to cause some peeps to stop playing certain classes. Time as always will tell the tale. I look forward to it but I also dread it cause I know there are going to be worgens and goblins running amuck.
