    they really couldn't make it only dx 10, cause there are a lot of people still running XP which does not support dx 10 unless they changed that with a service pack

    Lotro will prolly be the only MMO with Dx 11 for quite some time. Not even Dx 10 is really Mainstream yet.

    So I`d say Dx9 with some Dx 10 options for those that can.

    "Gaile Gray has indicated the game will support DirectX 10, but not require it to play. Guild Wars 2 will use the Havok physics engine and occlusion culling technology licensed from Umbra Software."

    As to XP support; officaly no DX10/11 is not supported on WinXP SP3; better question is why people are still on XP, such a horid OS imo.

    XP horrid? lol

    Until Windows 7 came out, XP was the cream of the crop. You want horrid, try Windows 95,98, ME, or Vista ( ME 2 ). 2000 Professional and then XP Professional were the only really great Windows versions until 7.

    I`ll have to disagree. Windows 98 SE is the best windows ever.

    Anyways , XP will not get support above Dx 9.

    Alright, after thinking back, I'll give you 98 SE.

    And yes, XP will not go above DX9. However, this is more due to MS greed than the OS, as XP could very well integrate DX10 if MS decided to implement it. They did not solely to try to boost sales of the floundering Vista. And then of course with 7 being as good as it it, there's no need to retrofit XP. Plus it would make MS look bad to suddenly say "Oh, by the way, XP could have DX10 in it, here ya go!" after they spent so much effort into misleading people.

    GW2 will definately support dx10 and 9. I can tell you from the graphics :) And frankly It will be 2011, it would look bad if a game didn't suppport at least dx10 :)

    Anyone else who'd enjoy an openGL renderer too?

    I sure would like to see GW2 released for several OSes.

  • KryptyKrypty Member UncommonPosts: 454

    Personally I hope its DX9 and DX11. DX11 is DX10 streamlined with tesselation and some other goodies. Thats my dream anyway.

    I'd prefer DX9..

    So its easy to get working under Wine in Linux

    Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    Though I do like Wine (using it to play GW1), I'd rather see it not be the main focus, the "be all, end all" Linux gaming duct-tape solution. Performance hit, risk of losing support for the game in question, WiP, etc.

    At least, indie studios get it, hopefully big ones will too, soon... Word on the street is that Valve caught a hint...

    But I digress :)

    Just so you guys know in order to get the full support of dx11 a game has to be made from scratch to support dx11. As dx11 has a totally different tool set then the others. Games that support dx11 are used as a performance tool and not for updated graphics.

    Also XP is no longer support by MS they have cut XP and Vista almost totally off and putting all their money in windows 7.

    It's most likely going to take the typical DX9/DX10. Leaving out DX9 at this point would still be a suicide.

    DX9 = Good...

    DX10 = Great!

    DX11 = Excellent!!

    Turbine Engine went from DX9 to DX10 and now LOTR DX11... Hope GW2 will go same path.

    there is no reason for arenanet to support anything but dx11,everybody is going to w7 the number prove it .w7 is the number one os whatever other hope!

    w7 got what 50 % of the market?that is a huge chunk of player when this thread was written we didnt know how wide the w7 adoption would be

    but w7 created such a tsunami for it self and is so widely adopted everywhere that arenanet can simply ignore dx10 or dx9

    only corp now a day stay with xp!and even them they re moving to w7.

  • KillyoxKillyox Member CommonPosts: 424

    Even Wow got Dx11 support [performance] with cataclysm.

    I expect GW2 to have dx9 and dx11. No point in staying in dx10.

    Wrong.

    IF at all it will be dx9 and dx11. And sorry to burst your bubble but USA isnt one and only market in the world. XP is still dominant worldwide while w7 is dominant in usa [the 50%+ you speak about].

    Also this is MMO and ANet wants as many players as possible so they wont show middle finger to ppl still with XP and dx9. They aren't stupid.

    To me this seems most logical. Especially considering that they seem to be aiming for a wide variety of machines (aka more players).
