Jumping isn't about jumping, oddly enough.

It's about having a z-axis that matters. Having to follow pre-defined paths around the gameworld while my feet are supernaturally glued to the ground is bloody annoying, and to be honest nothing but laziness on the developer's part.

I’m American and I have no issues with jump being absent from the game. Though I do wish some of the people griping about it would take a flying leap off some tall structure. But then again I haven’t had my coffee this morning so I’m just grumpy. :/

So its lazy to not want to waste money on something thats barely going to affect the game?

I could care less about jumping. Couldn't jump in GW. And it's not just you that cannot jump, no one else will be. To be honest it annoys me when people, constantly, jump just for the hell of it.

Wordpad is lazy, anytime you press spacebar it just makes a gap between letters.

I say everyone move to Acrobat v.9.9. They implemented jumping because they know their fans.

    Z-axis is about elevation changes.

The game has them, plenty of them.  Also you can fall down cliffs... there IS a Z-axis.   Every game has a Z-axis except perhaps games that look like the first zelda game ever.  The designers are NOT lazy, thats just as silly as saying that any game developer who doesn't include wings or sprinting in their games is clearly lazy.   Its a design feature, they chose to NOT have jumping, they didn't think to them selves after 6 years of development "Eh lets just be done with this game and not bother to make it feature complete."    That line of reasoning makes no logical sense.

Am I the only one mroe attracted to FF14 because there is no jump key.  Have you all played other games and noticed how annying the ADHD kiddies are that continually jump across your screen.  Is there anything that makes one want to log off more than seeinghtese annoying children jumping all over.  Kudos to square for getting this right.  In one quick step they made the game community a much better place.

    I AGREE with Zippy

No jumping in games. jumping brings on a lot more childish behavior.

On a side note what does jumping do for you anyways?

If i can tab to you to target you I don't car if you jump I'm still hitting you. The only thing jumping does in a game is annoy people. If all you want to do is annoy someone I'm glad FF14 is not going that rout.

Really?!  Jumping brings in the kids?

You want to know what brings in the kids? Boobies. If the game is going to have sexy female models with big boobies, you'll see a higher than average teenage population. Since this game will have sexy female avatars, you're going to have childish behavior.

    Oh... *thank you*, OP.

I'm so glad someone finally decided to bring up the "no jumping" topic. I was beginning to think no one would ever bring it up around here!

Thank you OP for bringing up this completely untouched, not at all redundant, not at all over-discussed and not at all beaten to death topic here in the FFXIV forums on MMORPG.com.

'cause, it certainly hasn't been discussed, at length, just five posts below yours on the first page, in a thread named Why isn't there a jump feature?" {answered}"

It certainly hasn't been discssed in myriad other threads, in these very forums, going back *months* now.

So, yes... thank you, OP, for courageously shining some much needed light on this woefully untouched and unlit topic.

I hope I laid on a sufficient amount of sarcasm.

Now... before the myriad justifications start pouring in...

The game doesn't have jumping because it would serve no meaningful purpose in the game.

No, jumping over boulders and fences that can be easily circumvented is not meaningful.

Being able to jump on fountains and tables and other places people have no reason to be on, for the sole purpose of saying "Look at me! Look at me!" is not a meaningful reason.

Jumping on ledges will not bring you any advantage in the gameplay.

Hoping to jump to spots where mobs can't reach you would likely be considered an exploit, as it is in so many other games - inlcluding those with jumping.

It will never be necessary to leap over chasms, or jump across a series of platforms to get where you need to go.

No it's not "lazy", it's a design decision that has been made for *numerous* other games - MMO and otherwise - without rendering those games any less fun or making them any less successful (Zelda series anyone? Silent Hill? Diablo?).

FFXIV's combat system is looking to be quite tactical as it is, jumping is not "necessary" to make it more strategic.

No, jumping is not a "requirement" of "next-gen MMOs", any more than it was 1 or 2 or 3 generations ago; not to mention there is nothing inherently "next gen" about jumping, considering it's been an element in video games - those with jumping required by design - going back *at least* nearly three decades.

I think I covered all the possible retorts people have given as reasons why FFXIV "must have jumping". Others can fill in any I missed if they wish.

Who knew that being vertically challenged would be this much of a disability ;)

Edit: Oh btw can you duck? If so ducking and then rising quickly could almost be a jump.....

Have you seen the E3 videos where players were getting stuck on terrain?

    Have you seen the  <insert MMO that has jumping> where you can get permanently stuck in all types of terrain from tables to chairs, to roofs, to fauna, rocks & trees...etc etc etc  requiring an GM call to get free.  {and on the lesser side having to home point out when stuck between terrain like a jumble of trees or rocks from falling down the wrong sides of cliffs or hills on accident...or even being retarded trying to get under the maps or into areas you shouldn't be at period!}

No, but I have seen an official FFXIV video where the player got stuck on leveled terrain while trying to chase a crab.

Does MMORPG.com give out titles randomly? Because I wouldn't mind a "Guide" title also.

I was that ADHD 'kid' jumping all over Orgrimmar with my feral druid popping different forms because I knew, knew that the tears of anguish would roll slowly down someone's cheek like that Native American old guy in the anti-littering ad from the '70's.

But I could care less if it's in FFXIV. I would care as much if it was implemented. (the jumping, not the crying thing)
