Maybe you should report the thread to World of Tanks.
Nothing would help development better than clearing out the OP's house and luquidating his assets when they sue him for posting slander (which is what the OP did, posting false information in an attempt to ruin the company's image and reputation, causing a direct impact on their business).

There must be more behind it than just do some childish "sabotage". I havent really figured out how they roll yet though.

On topic, The OP isn't here to cause a flamewar you are just paranoid, He's had his wow account hijacked at the same time as installing World of Tanks and he's just airing his concerns, It may not be World of Tanks that has caused the problem but there is always the possibility that it could be. So why don't you actually read the thread instead of being so damn zealous?.
It started the setup wizard instead of doing the C++ setup a different way, Just click cancel for the C++ thing when it asks repair or remove. setup finishes and game works perfect.
My wife told me she is pregnant, and when I questioned her faithfulness b/c we hadn't did the deed in many months she explained that it was b/c I downloaded this World of Tanks game...
The good news is that I know my wife isn't cheating.
The bad news is World of Tanks will get your girlfriend/wife pregnant if you download it. This is just a warning. I thought I would share my warning since it was a bit suspicious. I'm with you OP. I know wargaming.net has developed many games and spent a lot of money doing so, but given the amount they can gain from getting my wife pregnant... it all makes sense!!!
do you realize ton sof WoW accounts are hacked daily ( one of the reasons ill never play it). i play any and all F2P games including 2 pay to play like fallen Earth and Eve Online. I'm sorry it is literally impossible for you to install a game that a company spent millions on. For it to instantly hack ur wow account and take ur info. all in a days time. I would SUGGEST the op go back and find out what day his account was resubbed as im sure he find out it was a long LONG time ago. Hackers are a royal pain in the ass these days. But don't sit here and trash F2P games or new games coming out unless u got 100% facts and full proof to back it up. Man i tell ya F2P haters are gettin extremly creative ><
I personally think blizzard themselves got hacked here is why.
My wife and I recently came back to wow, to find out that her account had been banned, we checked her email and found out on may 17th her account was banned, but we also had an email saying that her account was shut down at the end of february, (thats when we quit) Now I realize that there are tons of things that could still get her info leaked, except after we shut down our wow accounts we both reformatted our computers (we both had alot of old games, and its just good to do now and again). Her account password for wow is different than her email and her usual login stuff, so they couldn't have just found out from some other game and guessed.
also you take into acount that ever since the middle of may there have been record number of hacks, I don't know if its a record number, but it has been ALOT. try callin blizzard, more than 9 times out of ten your going to get the call queue is full, and get disconnected. So I see no way as to how they could have gotten her wow info from our computer unless they have a stash of two months worth of account info just waiting to be used, but as quick as they catch and ban such activity, that would just be too scary. When my account got hacked i saw a 18 minute difference between the email saying that my password was changed and when my account was temporarily suspended.
So yeah i think they were hacked, and alot of our info got taken, and they either don't want to admit it, or never knew (I doubt that)
My issue with the validity of this is that the OP mentions a few posts down on page one, that he/she admittedly has tried "everything under the sun in the last few months" so how then is it obviously THIS install that happened today, and also got compromised the same day? Even the BEST phishing scams dont work that fast.
Though i do appreciate the heads up, i did see that same pop up, and have not had anything fishy or phishy on my machine in the last few days, since installing WoT or Martial Empires. Though in mention of ME, i would stay away from the US version, THAT looks mighty shady to me, seven souls or whatever.
EDIT : As to that last post, Blizzard didnt get hacked, but there was an article a few weeks ago about some kind of worm phishing thing that's been floating around, and it hit something like 120+ million accounts worldwide of diff games, most likely a lot of people (myself included) were hit due to ncsoft (who was a lesser hit company) and other ones where they had used the same email addy or something. I'm almost positive thats how i got comp'd back in february on my wow acct.
OP and that another guy both mentioned addons. They're the ones who did it, who else give a shit about wow than those who play and make addons etc. Of course they dont blame them because they take the blame on themselves so they hit indy companies like WoT. Only idiot download addons.

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 installed.
Come on, don't be such a noobs! It's not a rocket science. It's like you're leaving in a dark ages when peasants said: "oh, it's a lightning! It must be a God's wraith!"
I don't care. When something bad happens, I'm going to warn others whether I understand what the "cause" is or not. I just know what the effect is and that I wouldn't want that for anyone.
Actually what you are doing and they way you are doing it is very irresponsible.
You admit you have no idea how you got hacked, none. So far you have suggested the possible causes might be, world of tanks, free to play games, addons, a blackmailed blizzard employee. Did I miss any others?
You have admitted you use 3rd party programs for playing mmos. You don't seem to understand what a phsishing scam is. You have said that you have downloaded just about everything under the sun in the last 3 months. Please don't take this as an insult, I'm just repeated what you have already posted and done.
All you are doing is spreading misinformation and fear. You are not doing anyone any favors by blinding accusing other people and programs for your problems. Honestly, you are a very high risk user. It seems you don't fully understand security and you have a very high volume of interaction with websites about mmos, installing every mmo you can find and even 3rd party programs. Your thread starts off with an accusation based on 1 experience, yours. You didn't try to corroberate it with anyone else or try to find out if it was a trend, you jumped to the conclusion right off the bat and rushed here to warn people.
I understand you had the best of intentions when posting this, but posts like this do more harm than they do any good.
I installed this game (and I play WoW, AoC, and a few other P2P MMO's), I didn't get anytype of C++ repair during install and all my accounts are perfectly fine. Haven't received any new phishing emails or anything lately.
Only problem I have in WoT is learning to aim better o.0
I just knew it I get banned because of this. They actually told me I'm the negative guy here this whole thread is negative from start to the end. If you let people make flamewars thats just sad. Fucking idiots. How else they can keep this up. Flamewars positively.
ROLF, Theres really nothing more behind this thead. This is what they do, They make flamewars. We should now argue with OP like probably next 50 pages.

I haven't played WoW since April. Today I was bored and was looking at different games. I decided I would try World of Tanks, so I got the beta key, downloaded the client. Installed it. during the installation there was an odd moment where it said it had to repair the Microsoft Visual C++. That was a bit odd, I have never seen that before and I've installed lots of software over the years.
So I decided to resub to WoW. I go to my account to resub, and find it's been resubbed, TODAY!. But with a completely different credit card number I've never seen before. I was even able to log in, fortunately nothing had been changed yet. I called Blizzard, they had me change everything etc. so I am Extremely blessed today.
Not saying it is DEFINITELY the World of Tanks Beta client, but it's the ONLY thing I can think of that changed today on my PC. I have promptly removed it from my computer and am even more wary now of trying any FTPs these days.
Greetings,
there are more than 100.000 beta testers in World of Tanks at the moment. I'm sure you are not the only one of them who has WoW account as well. There have been no such complaints on the official forums or anywhere so far. As for Microsoft Visual C++, it is official licensed software, that just can't do any harm to your PC or steal your private data. You were asked to repair Microsoft Visual C++ only becuse you ALREADY HAD it installed. It was just the update.
There are many opportunities how to hack private account in WoW or any other MMO-game.
1) beware of real people. They are the most dangerous
2) special account hack software
3) fishing software

Free2Play doesn't automatically mean suspicious or shady. This model just allows the majority of players enjoy the game without investing any cent. No subscription, no compulsory payments. This game gives you freedom, you can invest either efforts/time or money to be rewarded with a better tank/equipment.
I see that your are not blaming World of Tanks direclty for your problem, but I thought it would be better just to clarify this.
I still hope, there is a chance to meet your in the battlefield elocke!
Originally posted by MaxisDB Originally posted by elocke Well, technically you don't know that. First I went to battlenet.com to check my account and the status was active which made me go "What?!" and then I dug deeper and found the credit card info, etc. They had ALL day from when I installed WoT to when I checked the account on WoW to get the password and resub. Anyway, I didn't say it WAS WoT just to be WARY as it possibly COULD be WoT. I still want to know what type of java code it might have been and which site I went to, which most probably was a video game site, since that's where I spend 90% of my online time.
Well I hope that's not the site you went to. If it is, that would be your problem. You just handed your login info to the wrong site, and if that's the case then you did it to yourself and it wasn't anything you installed. The actual Blizzard site is just "battle.net".
Don't assume! I didn't actually go to battlenet.com I just put what I remembered it being called. The exact nature in how I input my account info was via the worldofwarcraft.com site using the account management link. Sheesh.

Please learn to read my entire post. I stated the day the account was reinstated. Therefore since you didn't read it, the rest of your post is pointless and trolling. I also never claimed to hate FTPs, just to be wary of them. Next thing, people like yourself will start hating those who put up caution signs or wet floor signs because it gets in the way of where you want to go. Sheesh.

Harm to whom? The WoT company? I hardly think my "warning" is even going to be heard by but a handful of people who try the game. Hopefully, it is helpful in some sense that future devs and WoT devs can take a quick look at their installers, security, whatever in order to stop this stuff. I'm not "out to get them" as some people come here claiming. I'm just being a normal consumer/customer who had a problem that was either coincidental or not but it still happened.
