Hey All,

With Season 2, we plan to bring in Tier 5 ships that parallel the power of the Galaxy-X. The original plan was to release these ships alongside the Galaxy-X, however we were late on getting the content out (it should be hitting Tribble after the weekend).

The appeal of the Galaxy-X was designed to be canon/cosmetic appeal. Once we get those other ships out there, you'll be able to earn ships in-game that are of equal power, and those who purchase the Galaxy-X won't have any in-game advantage. We are wholeheartedly against the "pay to win" model and our balance designers are dedicated to making sure that items in the C-Store do not grant an unfair advantage over players who do not elect to purchase the items.

translated into english: now that we have ripped off as many people as we could 25$ for a ship that had advantages, were going to make it useless.

if the part i highlighted in red is true, why was it released into the c-store before the "equal power" ships were released?

    Because they could?

bear in mind teh Galaxy X is STILL C STORE ONLY, whereas all T5 ships are for Vice Admirals (55+) and were mentioned quite some time ago as being teh enxt generation of ship.

Some people want Galaxy-X ships to look cool, I personally love my tactical Soverign. if people want to spend $25 on some pixels why should we stop them?

I don't see at what point the OP said they wanted to stop the players from spending 25 dollars in the cash-shop. What I did read was that the OP doesn't want to see items in the cashshop sold and then after a fair amount of people buy it be told there would be equal alternatives available, for free, through in game grinding or whatever. It seems to be the issue for the OP is the timing. Granted other people take issue with the price.

I don't know about the other posters on this board, but I don't want to stop them.  Reading the STO boards after these debacles is too darn funny.

By its very anture Cash Shops and Micro transactions are designed so that the items sold do not, will not, and never should give players an item that cannot be earned ingame. they stated this when the C-Store went live, they have talked about the T5 ships and stated when Galaxy-X was released that they had delayed T5 due to getting them signed off by CBS.

And no, I wont link to the posts, have you seen how much whining I would have to go through in that forum......

I think it's funny as hell anymore.. Best entertainment in an MMO in quite some time..  The sad, yet funny part is that the same people keep buying more and more shit from the C store..  I mean really.. How many times do you need to get punched in the face before you stop going back for more?  I would probably suggest a 1 month boycott of subs, but it looks like the only ones left are lifers

You are correct: When the pre-order exclusives went on sale, it should have been a wake-up call. When the Galaxy-X appeared in the store, anyone who thought this wasn't going to happen deserves what they get.

If people bought the Galaxy-X ships because they were more powerful than any in game then they were buying them for the wrong reasons.

Pretty obvious the Dev's don't want the cash shop items to be an I-win feature over those who play the game w/o the cash shop (as it should be) and I'll agree the timing of the two releases was poor since some folks apparently mis-understood what they were buying. ( a short term advantage at best).

No fan of Cryptic but I don't see any major evidence of foul play here.

If they don't like IBUY-IWIN situations why use a cashshop in the first place??

Come on ppl, of all ppl you lot here should know better; there isn't a single cashshop in existence that is 'visuals only'. Why? It would not sell as good. They come up with excuses and changes and what not, but the bottom line is: they need you to buy the damn items!! (every time again)

I thought higher of these all stars on mmorpg... being suprised by a cashshop. Oh dear what will be next  image

Because what he meant to say is this..................

We are wholeheartedly against the "pay for a permanent advantage" model and our balance designers are dedicated to making sure that items in the C-Store have enough advantage over other in game items long enough to get people to buy them before we re-balance them or put in things that are better. This way we get paid, some get to kick some arse for a while and the rest get to laugh at those that wasted money on such an inferior ship later when better ships are added.

Here's the deal man...Cryptic originally offered the Galaxy-X to people who could get 5 friends to buy a box set and sign up for a month.

Like 6 weeks later, they decide to put it in the C-store for 25 bucks.

*THAT* is why people are pissed...namely the persons who opted to create five shadow puppet accounts to get the Galaxy-X.

And thats only for this particular instance. Cryptic has been doing this with pretty much every "exclusive" item they've offered on STO.

Turbo-milking a cow indeed. They're getting gallon out of gallon of powdered milk out of the deal.

There are many cash shops in games that provide a means to obtain items in the cash shop via grinding gameplay as well as just purchasing it.

Of course there are also those games that sell items in their cash shops that do indeed effect gameplay, and can't be found elsewhere. it looks like Cryptic is using a hybrid model; sell game effecting items in the cash shop, then shortly afterwards making similar or better items available in the game.

There's a really easy fix for that; just don't visit the STO forums here, since you know what the posts are going to be like.

As far as Cryptic marketing/PR clusterfracks go, this one is pretty mild.  I'm pretty sure they announced a while ago that eventually during Season Two more higher tier ships will be added, so this shouldn't surprise anyone.

I hope Cryptic keeps bending over the fools who still support that game.  Nothing is funnier than seeing a blue name lose it and join the dark side.  I think the only "exclusive" that anyone cares about that isn't already in the c-store is liberated borg player characters, so it's not like they have much left right now to put in the c-store to squeeze money out of the few remaining chumps.

Don't worry, it will be coming, as will the general gnashing of teeth on the STO official forums!

I don't think you are giving Needham his due; after all, at one time he ran SOE's 'customer service' department.

Wait... so STO has had for a while ships that could only be acquired through the cash shop that are stronger than the ones that could be acquired in-game? And they say they don't want to favor P2W yet they had it for a while? *facepalm*
